  2. Thanks for the advice. Stipped all the body work off yesterday, the only thing i could find was a single wire (did not look factory) linking the two green wires on the headlamp bulb connections, I ahve attached a picture which may help. Replaced both headlamp bulbs and now seems to be all ok! Putting it bak together today and time will tell. Cheers Dave G
  3. Specifically the 12 as it doesn't really resemble it's "relatives"
  4. I am considering putting a VFR1200 engine into a small car. Does anyone have a diagram of, or be able to provide, the external dimensions of the engine?
  5. Man, that seems like a great bike for just having fun...except for the worry about running out of gas. Guess it's not made for travelling long distance. And how do you get by on "only" 150 hp? I WISH I could get 150 hp out of the VFR! Is there an aftermarket cure for the small fuel capacity? I didn't know this bike existed. I knew about the MT-09, but I don't really follow the latest and greatest.
  6. Sorry! Anybody else want to have a go at sorting the above out?
  7. Yes indeed. The engine is detuned from the R1's 200 to around 150 bhp but with a great spread of torque, the riding position is standard naked (i.e. pretty relaxed with decent leg room and wide comfy seat) and the ride is smooth and comfy. I had mine reflashed and it made a good bike great. Just needs another 3-4L of fuel to be perfect (the the low fuel indicator can come on in 200km or less).
  8. Were the wires clean before the hard wiring (soldered, I'm guessing)? Mine were corroded and needed t be cut back with a new length added to each so that it wouldn't keep failing.
  9. No sign, heat, burnt smell of any wires of the bike, yes main fuse B 30 amp is ok yes, ignition on kill switch on. No voltage to fuel pump relay, by brown black and black white wires. fi light never popped before or during the problem, fi light stays light in diagnostic mode I unplugged the ecm and the fuel pump relay to not damage parts and plugged 12v positive to green wire in fuel pump relay plug
  10. So, before installing my WiLD header pipe, I thought I might polish it up a bit. But will polishing mess with the passivation? I know nothing about passivation, other than these pipes got it.
  11. Hmm. Is that the same engine as the R1? But put in a hooligan bike?
  12. Here's another video from the same channel describing how he thinks the VFR800 fires, but he shows a firing order of 1-4-3-2, which I believe is incorrect. Also, the sound in the video doesn't seem to match the VFR800 to me. I think someone has mentioned an alternate firing order for previous year VFRs. Maybe that's what this is.
  13. So you've checked Main Fuse B 30amp? No sign of overheated burnt wiring of the fuse holder? No heat stress of the fuse itself? ???? Do you measure 12v on the Black/white wires of the FCR with Ignition to On, Kill Switch to RUN? When did you notice this? Was the Fi Light staying On when you first had problems or after you tested the Fuel Pump? What method did you use to do this? Note - The FCR is only energized at switch On for 2 to 3 secs Prime. Then the ECM turns it on again when cranking and engine running once the ECM receives crank pulses.
  14. Vfr800 2000, 106000km, hardly driven, track, daily driver, road trips. a week ago i went for a ride and stopped at some place to spend the night, when i left in the morning and went to start it it cranked well but didnt start fuel pump didnt started. Put her on the double stand because i was in some light dirt, tried to started it again and it started very good so i went back home. I though it was a oil switch or something like that because i was parked on a small hill. When i tried to start it again it wouldnt start so i tried to investigate Every fuses are fine fuel pump does not receive 12v relay does do click doesnt receive 12v when i give 12v to fuel pump it primes wiring ecm to fuel pump relay is fine, 0.4 ohm (brown/black and black/white) wiring is not short to ground tested bank angle sensor ok tested bank angle sensor wiring ok cleaned ecm plugs engine stops relay clicks ecm diagnostic system light stays lit then i looked if it sparked and did not. I have a feeling its the ecm, any more ideas or test that i should do ? I know how rare ecm can malfunction
  15. Thanks expvet and bmart for the replies, I’ve watched many videos and read many forum posts about how to check the stator. Admittedly my multimeter is very cheap and I didn’t put new batteries in. I remeasured with a better meter with fresh batteries and am getting the exact same results though, zero resistance across all 3 coils. Also no resistance or continuity between each coil and ground. If these readings are correct, my stator is out spec for resistance which means it’s dead I guess? Just want to be sure before I buy another one, they aren’t cheap and replaced it less than 3000km ago. I’ll do some more digging around to see I can find any reason for that fuse to blow. If anyone has any ideas about what to look for I’d appreciate it. The main stuff that comes up when I search is faulty ignition switch and worn wiring insulation, i’ll start there. I checked the other 30a fuse on the starter relay circuit and it is good, all wiring and connections look good as well.
  16. Alternator wires have now been hard wired to the RR, but of course this is probably just the initial cause of the problem and not the remaining issue(s) Issue with the dash still occurs. Will see if I can find my battery charger to make sure that's not contributing Worst case I'm thinking I can pull out my oscilliscope to inspect the voltage. The short could have damaged any number of things I guess (most likely the RR?) Close to saying fuck it, and getting a new stator, new RR, new battery, VFRness. Wanna do some sanity checks first though before committing to that job
  17. As an owner of an MT-10, I can confirm that the sensation from the engine is very similar to that of a VFR with a 180 degree crank, there's just a lot more of it! After you've ridden a cross-plane crank inline 4, a regular inline-4 is pretty dull.
  18. You can leave the O2 sensor bung or close it of and disable it with a O2 eliminator plug available online
  19. I hav ea few of those tools, accumulated over the years...and tons of shims.
  20. Are you asking about the 1200 specifically or in general?
  21. Yes, it waiting for a friend that has a Yamaha shop to come whit hos special tool as chims and adjust the valves....
  22. Hi All I was thinking (it happens from time to time) maybe we can do a dedicated thread on suspension, the do's and don'ts, possibilities and such and have it all in one place. I know it's all been "done to death" over the last decade and a bit, but because of that it's a schlepp to find specific types of info for us late comers as it's scattered all throughout various threads. So if you can or want, add your experience and tips and we can categorize it if possible. From all my reading, the suspension of the VFR1200F is perhaps it's biggest let down (bar the few souls that want more petrol), but what is the problem? The valves, springs too weak, too little adjustment, wrong weight oil? And what can be done to alleviate this? Bearing in mind we can't all just go by some Ohlins presents. So let's maybe do 4 categories ... Stage 0 - Settings, oil weight change, lowering front end, lift rear etc. All manner of tweaking with basically existing bits. Raising pre-load in front and dropping triple clamps15-20mm makes turn in better and handling in corners more stable. Rear could also be raised 10-20mm. Stage 1 - Changing fork internals, oil weight change, different springs (front and back). Wilbers Fork Springs Traxxion Dynamics Spring and Cartridge DMr Performance Suspension (daughertymotorsports.com) Stage 2 - Swapping front end and/or rear shock with standard equipment off another motorcycle. N/A Stage 3 - Fit new forks and rear shock. Wilbers Shocks Traxxion Dynamics Penske Shock So what have you done and how much of a change did it make and what are you planning next? PS. It seems thus far that the springs were too soft and that the standard cartridges aren't up to scratch either (front and back) even with the fancy acronym (HMAS).
  23. I did check the rear axle bearings earlier this season when i replaced the cush drive dampers. Which i was surprised they were mostly intact and rubber isnt too hardened after 24 years and 100k I will be syncing the TB's, and possibly replace the choke wax body -or whatever it's called- as i think it turns off a little early before the bike is fully warmed up (could be a symptom of the stuck thermostats, but might as well do it while I'm there) My chain and sprockets are in a surprisingly good and healthy shape, i don't know when were they changed last, i have personally put 45,000km (28,000 mile) on and just regularly lube it every 500km (300mi)
  24. Hi All I replaced all the brake pads yesterday (and did a flush as well) and noticed that the little pads in front where a lot thicker than the bigger pads. Why would this be? I know the left side small pads are actuated by the back brake (even here the front pads were in a lot better condition than the rear pads). Also note worthy, the previous shop told me at the last service my brake fluid was still ok (about 2 months ago). Don't think I'll be going there again. Did Ferodo on the rear and SBS in front (they didn't have SBS for the rear in stock) and some Motul RBF660 fluid.
  25. Can you post a video of your engine running on three cylinders, I'd like to see and hear it. P.s - "I've got a 2002 honda vfr 800 vtec that's only running on 3 cylinders the front right cylinder is down." Apologies I misread this as cylinder 3 was not working, the front right is cylinder 4. Have corrected the text in my first post.

      Juniper Pass

I took a day off from work and also from my bicycle training to take out the Veefalo one last time before the weather turns ugly, supposed to snow the rest of the week and possibly start sticking to the ground along the Colorado Front Range. I took a leisurely pace up hwy 105 toward Morrison and got reacquainted with the bike since its been over a month since I took any sort of twisties on it at all, hwy 105 is a scenic ride along the front range between Denver and Colorado Springs, its mostly easy fast sweepers and lite traffic so its a favorite road of mine when going north. Then I have to negotiate a bit of traffic near Highlands ranch and up hwy 470 into the mountains. I decided to take the Morrison Exit and try either Lookout Mountain or head up Golden Gate Canyon - this time it was Lookout Mountain, I was sort of making it up on the fly as I went along. Lookout Mountain is my old bicycling haunt from my days while I was working at Coors, its a killer ride and all uphill - I don't think I could do it today If I had to, not quite there yet! I saw a whole bunch of riders doing it though and wished I was in shape enough to be there doing it as well. 30 more lbs and I will be able to do it! On this day I would do it on the Veefalo instead.

I took a video from the gateway to the top at the Lookout Mountain State Park, getting past riders, the guy in the green jacket actually pretty much astounded me with how far he had gotten in the short time it took me to set up my camera, some 3 miles at least and up to the gateway from the turn off at hwy 6! Amazing I thought. I took the first two turns slow then got more comfortable as I went up further, till I was doing well, I made some gearing mistakes and took the tight 15mph marked hairpins in the wrong gear so I lugged it a bit on one or two. Still enjoyed it though and then got off at the top and hiked over a rock outcropping for an overview of the road for the pictures below.

From there I headed up interstate 70 to Idaho Springs for a beer at the Tommy-knockers brewery, I was the only customer in the joint - slow day for them so they treated me like a king! I got a nice tour of the place sort of impromptu, they made me a nice Pastrami sandwich on rye and with the brown ale it was fantastic. I must say the beer is much better there than in the bottles - its always good at the brewery. I am glad I stopped

I finished my lunch and since the road to Mount Evans is right there I headed up Squaw pass hoping to get in some nice pictures I wasn't expecting what I found, ICE IN ALL THE SHADY PARTS

      gallery_491_3463_419309.png

Icy patches on Squaw Pass definitely taking it easy on that road

There were some section where the ice covered the whole road for 300 yards or so I had to roll through it with my legs out to help keep the bike from sliding and falling over, I took it real slow. A Ford pickup was right behind me so I pulled over to let him pass but the guy was going slower then even I was so I pressed on - in places where I could see I just cut over to the oncoming lane and out of the ice where the sun was shining on the road more, but some places there was not alternative so I just had to go slow, good thing it wasn't slick but rather they tossed some gravel over the worst parts so I had some traction!

I did stop for pictures in all the best spots

Not that it matters and not that I expect anyone had noticed, but to those who sent me "where are you?" I would like to say I am back. Not only that I am officially returning to VFRD after nearly 2 months break but I have also ridden my Hawk last weekend and had FUN! Let me restate that; I had major fun riding! Something I have almost given up on.

Most of you have been riding your whole adult lives and riding is not only a hobby to you, it is part of you. But I started riding three years ago and even though I have encounter some setbacks, till this spring I loved riding with whole my heart. However, I have always considered riding as my hobby. As a hobby which suppose to make my life better, more fun and more rich. Life is too short to do something which we don't fully love.

My love of riding received a first major scar this spring: I lost a friend on the racetrack. He was a total stranger who offered me his help after I lowsided at CMP track last year. I still remember hearing his "Hi, my name is Todd, do you need help?" while I was duct-taping my roadrash from ripped jacket. He helped me straighten up the shifter and we kept in touch. The next time we saw each other was the day he died.

With 9 months delay, I can say that Todd's death shook me more than I have realized. It rooted fear in me which was fueled by seeing and hearing about others getting hurt over and over again. If I was to summarize this year - it would be one big accident report. I became sensitive to every broken bone, every roadrash, every lowside. And even though I did 10 track days this year, I became slower and slower and slower. Suddenly, I have acquired this 'grandma' riding style on the road, frozen with fear that behind every corner there is car standing in my lane, or major sand trap or deer staring at me ... I was crippled with fear not only for me about also for my fellow rider.

So, at the end of this year, I rode more and more by myself. I could not bear the feelings of responsibility for others on the road and my lines were crippled by my own fears. It all culminated this fall at WDGAH. In a freaky accident Love2rideh82crash was taken down by a truck crossing into our lane. I was done. I finished the weekend, locked the VFR into a garage and took a break.

Until the last weekend, I pretended that motorcycles do not exists. As a last instance after 2 months break from riding, I decided to go to CMP track to see if I can still have fun. I also felt like I should go for the memory of Todd. I went and I had fun! I had much more fun than I expected and the most fun on track I can remember. Suddenly the whole track connected into an uninterupted line of turns and I felt one with the bike riding around! I was giggling like a little girl in my helmet and keep on giggling ever since smile.gif

Granted I was not the fastest one and through out the weekend, I have never exceeded about 60% of my riding abilities, but I had no "oh-shit" nor 'blond' moments. I could have maybe go faster, I could have brake later for the turns and I could have lean further, but I am no Rossi nor Stoner. I decided to ride for fun and I had amazing blast riding well within my comfort zone.

I was proud of myself when, after bandaging Ricks arm, I was able to distance myself and go back to riding without the year-long fear. I did feel bad for him but the feelings were not crippling my lines nor my mind. And when a total stranger came to me and said "Hi, my name is Todd", my heart stopped for a minute though but I suddenly knew that my life went a full circle. I probably will never win MotoGP :idea3: , but I am back! :wheel:
