  2. As stated. Don't need rotors or bearings, but fine if included. Off on a trip for 10 days, so may take a day or two to get back to you. Thanks Michael
  3. Hi, I just saw the introduction of Rapidbike Evo 2 and Racing 2 and wondered if they are (or planned to be) available for 5th Gen?
  4. Today
  5. Replaced my front wheel bearings. A trip on early May to the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia took a toll on my front rim. When I replaced my tires last Sept. I inspected the rims and bearings carefully as the bike was new to me. With only 11.5K on the bike they were as they should be. I knew I put a dent on the front while I was in Nova Scotia. as I also blew my right fork seal. I put the bike away for June and July, had a lot going on. In August, tucked into the front end to find the front rim had not 1, nor 2 dents, but 3. The left fork seal was shot to boot. Having gone through this with my 4th Gen 10 years ago, I figured the bearings were toast. I had seals and bearings on hand, until I went to install the bearings, they were for my 3rd Gen..... .🙃, so had to order a set. Anyway, some pics, because if not, it never happened. The right bearing was chowdered. Edit: For the record, the last picture is from 10 years ago and what your front bearing on your 4th Gen looks like after it disintegrates at 65 mph on the highway. I keep a close eye on my bearings now.😁
  6. Unless the ECU is telling the fuel system to pump you’ll never bump start it
  7. Looks pretty nice in the tank, no sign of any corrosion inside. This bike sat outside for at least 2 years, looks like maybe salt spray got to it. The corrosion while not unexpected is more widespread than I had hoped. Still looks like a clean and straight chassis and the motor sounds great but without a cooling system I have limited my enthusiasm there. I just fitted the radiator so as soon as I get the missing hose and the forks I could take a sneaky ride..
  8. Well the Red RC24 finally in garage to get exhaust mounted and together for a ride or two still this season, before starting doing modifications, some final bits on the way The RWB RC24 is moved to back of back room to wait for the camshaft repair.....
  9. So it's fall even been like summer weather this week aside Friday that was rainy. Even sunt as warm o the day it was foggy other morning early in the week The Transalp fuel tap started to leak, not much, just getting wet doesn't drop. But still should not be like this, so ordered a new rebuild kit. So been riding the SevenFifty It got a good wash on a lunch break at work Even it works good I like to ride the red RC24 this fall as standard before doing modifications during the winter, some final bits are on the way, so swamped around in the garage/basement this morning So the RWB RC24 is moved into the back to wait for the camshaft repair, Red RC24 to the garage to get together to ridable spec, the Zephyr Cafe is ready to roll into the garage to get electric sorted so I get it running and possible will sell it I think 🤔

    Anything goes!

  11. Are you able to spy the inside of the tank? This spring I finally worked up the nerve to check my '09 Vtec's, and was very relieved to find it looks pristine inside.
  12. Had a reasonably busy week making a bit of a start. First up was the front brakes which were were semi-seized making rolling around a challenge and which were predictably gunked up, one or two pistons had a small amount of pitting on their exposed ends but the seals were in good order, but what a pain to refit!. The master felt awful but was clean inside, still feels more draggy than I want so I will pull that one down again. One oddity that I haven't resolved is the brake light switch which works fine but the lever doesn't actually touch it. Wondering if I have an aftermarket lever here? The levers were horribly white and furry but a soak in alloy cleaner got rid of most of that followed with assertive wire brushing, and some penetrating oil and (im)patience got the span adjusters working. I will need to repaint the calliper bolts and maybe replace the pads pins as these also suffered corrosion. The discs cleaned up with some elbow grease and red scotchbrite pads but the disc bolts should get replaced to lose the rust. The rear brake will need similar attention but is not causing major drag. I ordered a full left middle fairing from a breaker in South Australia and that showed up today. I also found a radiator locally which arrived yesterday. I also found a clutch cover locally which will a little scarred is 100% better than what I have. I have the inner middle fairing coming from the US, and some radiator hoses from Florida. I bought a genuine HISS key from the local stealer and will get that coded and cut at some point. I have worked some graphite powder into the locks and they are feeling much better. I am wavering on buying a centrestand; I have a set of race stands but no way to use the rear one due to the SSSA and shaft drive. Have found a few unpleasant surprises with the hinge bracket on the tank rear really rusty; structurally OK but will need TLC to preserve what is left. The frame has some weird powdery white corrosion which is visual only but a bit ugly. Autosol seems to do a reasonable job without messing up the black finish. The reflector on the left lower fork leg took some impact and this has marred the lower casting and cracked the fender a little which will need some Plastifix or similar. One of the mirrors refuses to lock down when in the normal position, and I'm suspicious this might be an aftermarket part as well. Today has seen a major scrubbing session which has left me feeling drained, but at least the worst of the gunk is behind me and I can see what I have to work with. Electrically all seems fine, and the bike started right up with a new battery fitted. The next major project will be the forks which are a bit weepy as they are wont to do after a long idle period; there is some surface corrosion on the tubes but nothing too serious so I am hopeful a decent clean and polish will sort this out.
  13. Selling this OEM 5th gen stator. 22739 miles on it. Was planning on keeping it, but at my present rate I am putting miles on the bike, I will never use up the rewound stator I am currently running. I went to the rewind so I could have the Furukawa connectors go straight to the R/R without an intermediate connection (solder or butt connector) go to the stator. Its a good stator, probably has lots of miles left in it. Resistance 3 legs - I marked each leg - red/green/black red/black red/green black/green $100 shipped US 49 state ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OEM upgrade stator 4558 miles on it. If I was going to use it, I would modify it to go to a direct connect to battery as current R/R art is.... $40 shipped US 49 state... probably has some good miles left in it. ------------------------------------------ And I have bucoo OEM rotor bolts, new, used, and slightly used. I dont need all of them. We can work something out if you want any.
  14. When I bought my first '98 someone had misaligned the front axle/wheel. There is a specific procedure for aligning the forks/axle on reassembly that is described in the service manual. It's not difficult, but if not done properly you'll have problems like this.
  15. My bike has sat for 5-6 years and I’m trying to get it road ready again. The rear brake didn’t work at all after it sat. I decided to replace all brakes lines with stainless steel lines from galfer. I rebuilt all the master cylinders including the secondary one on the left caliper. I followed the bleeding procedure but now the rear pedal is soft. To get any braking from the rear you basically have to stand on the pedal. If I pump the pedal it will get firm but as soon as I release the pedal it gets soft. I do hear a squeaking/squeezing noise from the left caliper. Does anyone know what the issue would be? I’ve bleed the system so many times and I don’t see any air coming out of the system.
  16. Yes the green wires are ground/earth. Looks like you've got some corrosion there. Also investigate any modifications to the stock wiring. People do weird shit.
  17. Selling HiFlow air filter - closest to OEM --- $35 shipped - 49 state US Pipercross $50 shipped US 49 state - I didnt like how it was a struggle to get it to fit in lower airbox, probably could stand some dremel work in front radiuses. Top Bottom Suggest reading this air filter thread
  18. Good Evening, I was riding home yesterday stopped at a light. I was sitting in first with the clutch pulled in, the bike went “CLUNK” and turned off. I thought it stalled, but when I went to turn it on again the starter didn’t even crank and all the lights shut off. I tried to bump start it but to no avail. I checked the fuses and all were fine. I had the starter relay replaced last year and put a new battery in as well. The battery’s voltage is fine. When I go to start it now it just clicks. If I put it in neutral and pull in the clutch it will intermittently make a buzzing noise coming from the battery box region. not sure if it would have something to do with the valves or stator. The bike hasn’t had a valve adjustment for I would assume 20,000km. the bike is sitting at 60,000km I believe. Any insights? I suspect it may be a charging system issue but the fact it will not bump start is sort of leaning me towards the valves…
  19. Thanks for reply, I checked continuity on all the ground wires i could see earlier to each other and battery negative and seems ok I'm going to add a fresh earth from dash circuit board tomorrow, possibly right onto battery negative. I looked in the headlight switch too and it's rough looking, managed to find another on Ebay so hopefully between the two things it will help? It seems strange that fault only occurs when headlight switch is thrown, even with lights not connected( as fairings off) almost like the switch is either putting power or a negative where it's not wanted but that's just a hunch?
  20. Yesterday
  21. 2010 Honda VFR1200F - Manual Transmission Selling my VFR1200F. 46,528 miles. New rotors and pads > 3000 miles, new spark plugs, new factory OEM seat. 100% stock. Comes with 2 keys. Runs and rides great. 170hp and mountains of torque. Right side is mint, left side has a few scratches from a stationary drop. Located in Westmont, IL $6,599 OBO
  22. as mentioned earlier, find and clean all ground points. in addition, open the headlight switch for inspection.
  23. You gotta turn yours on a lathe. Shaved nearly 2lbs off my 5th gen fly. Quicker revving for sure. Engine response on rev-matching has not felt more instinctual.
  24. Had a bit of trouble with the front brakes over the last few days, had my tyres changed Tuesday and put my wheels back on but the front brakes were severely rubbing on the discs. Took the pads out and cleaned the pistons and it’s better than it was but still rubbing more than what it should be. I’m off to Wales on it tomorrow so it’ll have to do and hopefully they’ll sort themselves out with a bit of use as I’m not sure what else I can do other than a full strip down of the calipers.
  25. My bike does not sound like that, so it may be a different issue. However, I was riding home yesterday stopped at a light. When I go to start it now it just clicks… not sure if it would have something to do with the tensioners or the timing… I haven’t had a valve adjustment in awhile either, the bike is sitting at 60,000km I believe.
  26. This had a bulb change/conversion when I got it. How do I tell if import? It's running mph clocks it does have these, that look like relays?
  27. Yeah, I've got the dash out, checked each track from point of contact with bulbs to ribbon(that connects with push in connector) all seems good. Seems like everything that seems to be either wrongly lit up or out share a common green wire. Do I focus on that?

      Juniper Pass

I took a day off from work and also from my bicycle training to take out the Veefalo one last time before the weather turns ugly, supposed to snow the rest of the week and possibly start sticking to the ground along the Colorado Front Range. I took a leisurely pace up hwy 105 toward Morrison and got reacquainted with the bike since its been over a month since I took any sort of twisties on it at all, hwy 105 is a scenic ride along the front range between Denver and Colorado Springs, its mostly easy fast sweepers and lite traffic so its a favorite road of mine when going north. Then I have to negotiate a bit of traffic near Highlands ranch and up hwy 470 into the mountains. I decided to take the Morrison Exit and try either Lookout Mountain or head up Golden Gate Canyon - this time it was Lookout Mountain, I was sort of making it up on the fly as I went along. Lookout Mountain is my old bicycling haunt from my days while I was working at Coors, its a killer ride and all uphill - I don't think I could do it today If I had to, not quite there yet! I saw a whole bunch of riders doing it though and wished I was in shape enough to be there doing it as well. 30 more lbs and I will be able to do it! On this day I would do it on the Veefalo instead.

I took a video from the gateway to the top at the Lookout Mountain State Park, getting past riders, the guy in the green jacket actually pretty much astounded me with how far he had gotten in the short time it took me to set up my camera, some 3 miles at least and up to the gateway from the turn off at hwy 6! Amazing I thought. I took the first two turns slow then got more comfortable as I went up further, till I was doing well, I made some gearing mistakes and took the tight 15mph marked hairpins in the wrong gear so I lugged it a bit on one or two. Still enjoyed it though and then got off at the top and hiked over a rock outcropping for an overview of the road for the pictures below.

From there I headed up interstate 70 to Idaho Springs for a beer at the Tommy-knockers brewery, I was the only customer in the joint - slow day for them so they treated me like a king! I got a nice tour of the place sort of impromptu, they made me a nice Pastrami sandwich on rye and with the brown ale it was fantastic. I must say the beer is much better there than in the bottles - its always good at the brewery. I am glad I stopped

I finished my lunch and since the road to Mount Evans is right there I headed up Squaw pass hoping to get in some nice pictures I wasn't expecting what I found, ICE IN ALL THE SHADY PARTS

      gallery_491_3463_419309.png

Icy patches on Squaw Pass definitely taking it easy on that road

There were some section where the ice covered the whole road for 300 yards or so I had to roll through it with my legs out to help keep the bike from sliding and falling over, I took it real slow. A Ford pickup was right behind me so I pulled over to let him pass but the guy was going slower then even I was so I pressed on - in places where I could see I just cut over to the oncoming lane and out of the ice where the sun was shining on the road more, but some places there was not alternative so I just had to go slow, good thing it wasn't slick but rather they tossed some gravel over the worst parts so I had some traction!

I did stop for pictures in all the best spots

Not that it matters and not that I expect anyone had noticed, but to those who sent me "where are you?" I would like to say I am back. Not only that I am officially returning to VFRD after nearly 2 months break but I have also ridden my Hawk last weekend and had FUN! Let me restate that; I had major fun riding! Something I have almost given up on.

Most of you have been riding your whole adult lives and riding is not only a hobby to you, it is part of you. But I started riding three years ago and even though I have encounter some setbacks, till this spring I loved riding with whole my heart. However, I have always considered riding as my hobby. As a hobby which suppose to make my life better, more fun and more rich. Life is too short to do something which we don't fully love.

My love of riding received a first major scar this spring: I lost a friend on the racetrack. He was a total stranger who offered me his help after I lowsided at CMP track last year. I still remember hearing his "Hi, my name is Todd, do you need help?" while I was duct-taping my roadrash from ripped jacket. He helped me straighten up the shifter and we kept in touch. The next time we saw each other was the day he died.

With 9 months delay, I can say that Todd's death shook me more than I have realized. It rooted fear in me which was fueled by seeing and hearing about others getting hurt over and over again. If I was to summarize this year - it would be one big accident report. I became sensitive to every broken bone, every roadrash, every lowside. And even though I did 10 track days this year, I became slower and slower and slower. Suddenly, I have acquired this 'grandma' riding style on the road, frozen with fear that behind every corner there is car standing in my lane, or major sand trap or deer staring at me ... I was crippled with fear not only for me about also for my fellow rider.

So, at the end of this year, I rode more and more by myself. I could not bear the feelings of responsibility for others on the road and my lines were crippled by my own fears. It all culminated this fall at WDGAH. In a freaky accident Love2rideh82crash was taken down by a truck crossing into our lane. I was done. I finished the weekend, locked the VFR into a garage and took a break.

Until the last weekend, I pretended that motorcycles do not exists. As a last instance after 2 months break from riding, I decided to go to CMP track to see if I can still have fun. I also felt like I should go for the memory of Todd. I went and I had fun! I had much more fun than I expected and the most fun on track I can remember. Suddenly the whole track connected into an uninterupted line of turns and I felt one with the bike riding around! I was giggling like a little girl in my helmet and keep on giggling ever since smile.gif

Granted I was not the fastest one and through out the weekend, I have never exceeded about 60% of my riding abilities, but I had no "oh-shit" nor 'blond' moments. I could have maybe go faster, I could have brake later for the turns and I could have lean further, but I am no Rossi nor Stoner. I decided to ride for fun and I had amazing blast riding well within my comfort zone.

I was proud of myself when, after bandaging Ricks arm, I was able to distance myself and go back to riding without the year-long fear. I did feel bad for him but the feelings were not crippling my lines nor my mind. And when a total stranger came to me and said "Hi, my name is Todd", my heart stopped for a minute though but I suddenly knew that my life went a full circle. I probably will never win MotoGP :idea3: , but I am back! :wheel:
