  2. In low light I know the 30 amp is ok. The bulbs I changed as initially it was the headlamps that weren’t working but tonight no lamps other than one Side lamp / parking lamp. I’m planing on checking and Voltage’s tomorrow. In less than 12 months I’ve changed the headlamp bulbs twice now, hence why I was asking if it could be the R/R
  3. This sounds like a great idea to make life easier. Gaz, the items you discovered are self sealing on the female side. What's the view about that? Is it best to have both nale and female self-sealing or is it just the tank outlet side where that's necessary? Grateful for advice.
  4. Without any diagnosis asking for votes on a forum may not be the best approach. Have you measured your charging system per the instructions on this site? Have you checked for voltage at the terminals? Have you checked...the bulbs? Fuses? Help us help you.
  5. Hi all, my VFR has lost all front lights barring one side lamp. Am I right in thinking it’s the Reg/rec that’s the issue. ??
  6. Well theres a blast from the past. Mine are still going strong after 10years of fuel exposure inc Ethanol laced E10 for the last half dozen or so years! Happy hunting 😎👍
  7. The elbow was bolted on a paper gasket with the rubber O-ring in place then welded, which fried the o-ring then gasket sealer was smeared on top of everything. Fortunately I am not seeing this kind of shenanigans elsewhere. The mating surface cleaned up pretty well except for a small divet. I’ll have to pick a sealant for that spot. I have SMC and brake calipers cleaned. Pistons look good. Seals for masters and slaves on the way from BrakeCrafters recommended here on vfrd. In a youtube video the rear axle was out a few seconds after the nut was off. From the time I had the nut removed to having the axle out took an hour and fifteen minutes beating with ever larger hammers. Thinking if I didn’t need bearings before, I’d need them after this. Taking turns getting it to move a couple millimeters then tighten the nut down again to drag some penatrating lube in there. The axle passes my finger nail test. There is slight discoloration on the bearing surface. This look typical? Anyway I am calling good to go. Measures good. Bearing grease was in good condition. The first goodies arrived. Also recommended here. Thanks for the tips.
  8. Hi, does anyone have any idea where I could buy Honda factory bar risers for a 2015? It will come down to dollars and cents but would like to see if the option is available. I prefer Honda parts.
  9. Those are some great detail photos Lucca. I did the same valve clearance work on my 09 with about 90,000km last year and had to replace 6 VTEC buckets and relocate one, but the non VTEC clearances were nearly all OK which I think shows that a previous service had been done which ignored the VTEC valves, I took some photos but generally had too much oil on my hands to be bothered with a camera.

  11. That is a beautiful bike. Most ~40 year old bikes don't age that well from a looks and design perspective. And, as I think I posted somewhere else here recently, I just love those three spoke wheels. I don't think Joe's tank could make it any better.
  12. My tank has a small, shallow depression on an upper edge. I got the bike that way. For some reason stuff like that doesn't bother me as bad if I didn't do it and it's not terrible. Patina-as-received. It is not a $1500 dent. It is technically visible in this pic. But man I am drooling over here and happen to have the funds in the mad money account. But it's a pretty hard pass. And I think a PDR guy might be able to get to it. Thanks for posting though!!

Nice gold rims. Forks tweaked by Jamie, nice black double bubble screen, extended rear views, maybe a Throttlemeister ? Aftermarket can. Lots to like on this nice example of a 5th Gen!

  15. Hello hello people ! Another update on the VFR ! The front end is nearly done. The forks and the wheel have been put together as well as the discs and calipers. The front master cylinder has been rebuilt and the brake and clutch bled. I started to fit the front fairing, just to have a sneak peek at how it's gonna look as I still need to clean and paint the radiator. When I attempted to change the front sprocket, I noticed that the cover and the clutch slave cylinder were in a very terrible state. So started to clean up everything, and I noticed some damage to the inside of the cover. Not sure what happened there, I assume it was during my wee crash ? I got to clean up some bit of the swingarm, as well as the chain guard. The rear brake has been bled too. And yeah, I went a bit mental with the chain guard paint job 🤡 For the record, it's a black metallic with a dust coat of gold from the wheels 💁
  16. Time to put the patient on the table.... Start disecting Remove farked engine Put the patient on the bench... Pop in the donor! Yes @keny I still have the t-shirt!!!
  17. Just make sure it's MC oil so you don't contaminate the clutch plates with some super slippery additive.
  18. Yes, that's one of the best sources for the USA, for sure. Another one is Corsa Technic, but I tend to think of them more for automotive connectors. Same goes for Del City and Waytek. Eastern Beaver in Japan I see you've found already (sorry about the tariffs...), but it is still a good source of information about the relevant connectors. In the UK I've used also Kojaycat, Polevolt and Motorcycle Wiring Products for motorcycle connectors (they all have the "Hitachi-style" locking connectors used on many VFRs). The one thing I could never find in the USA (and which is available absolutely everywhere in the UK) is thin-wall pvc automotive cable in the full spectrum of sizes and colours. Not sure why that is, but all you seem to get in the US are a few popular colors and sizes. (For example, I can get 0.5mm2 or 1.0mm2 in 11 solid colours--and most of these with any one of 10 tracer colours as well. Fewer and fewer colours are available as the sizes increase, but hopefully you get the idea! Ciao, JZH
  19. I have read all this to the letter, this masterpiece job that You have done. Since I know VFR800 to the last bolt, I am impressed. As well, I salute You! This is how Love looks like, evidence of pure commitment and love! As well, I know what knowledge level You have to have to pull this job. This is better to read than a book. Thank u for sharing!
  20. Thanks guys, I'll give the fully synthetic a go The mirrors that came with the bike were aftermarket and the folding mechanism seized. They broke when attempting to unseize them. The bike is on 25k miles. I'm yet to do an oil change. I'll try that. All the oil options for this bike on wemoto seem to be 10w40 semi - synthetic. Is that the recommended oil?
  21. After 20+ years every bike needs proper service 😉

Great photo, slo1. Shiny VFR on a backroad on a brilliant sunshiny autumn day..
  23. Have to fix the wiring the PO did when he installed heated grips. The wires were pulling out of the connectors where he had plugged into the license plate light. A local dealer was nice enough to let me root around in a pile of old harnesses they had, but there were no connectors like the ones I needed. So, the next source appeared to be in Japan (with shipping a tariff - eek!). Luckily, I found a source in NJ that I feel deserves a shout out. https://www.cycleterminal.com/ Good variety, accepts small orders, price was right, shipping was cheap and quick. Thought I would put this out there in case anyone else needs special connectors.
  24. The super lightweight oils recommended today are simply to get those fuel economy numbers up. I'd run a good synthetic 10-40 in it without hesitation. It'll be fine.
  25. That's pretty ugly, but a lot of that will likely clean up OK. I have a TIG welder, but also know my limitations. Thought I'd have more time to practice then life happened.
  26. Last week
  27. You've done a lot of work so far, Lucca. But now I'm feeling guilty about how much maintenance my VFR needs.

      Juniper Pass

I took a day off from work and also from my bicycle training to take out the Veefalo one last time before the weather turns ugly, supposed to snow the rest of the week and possibly start sticking to the ground along the Colorado Front Range. I took a leisurely pace up hwy 105 toward Morrison and got reacquainted with the bike since its been over a month since I took any sort of twisties on it at all, hwy 105 is a scenic ride along the front range between Denver and Colorado Springs, its mostly easy fast sweepers and lite traffic so its a favorite road of mine when going north. Then I have to negotiate a bit of traffic near Highlands ranch and up hwy 470 into the mountains. I decided to take the Morrison Exit and try either Lookout Mountain or head up Golden Gate Canyon - this time it was Lookout Mountain, I was sort of making it up on the fly as I went along. Lookout Mountain is my old bicycling haunt from my days while I was working at Coors, its a killer ride and all uphill - I don't think I could do it today If I had to, not quite there yet! I saw a whole bunch of riders doing it though and wished I was in shape enough to be there doing it as well. 30 more lbs and I will be able to do it! On this day I would do it on the Veefalo instead.

I took a video from the gateway to the top at the Lookout Mountain State Park, getting past riders, the guy in the green jacket actually pretty much astounded me with how far he had gotten in the short time it took me to set up my camera, some 3 miles at least and up to the gateway from the turn off at hwy 6! Amazing I thought. I took the first two turns slow then got more comfortable as I went up further, till I was doing well, I made some gearing mistakes and took the tight 15mph marked hairpins in the wrong gear so I lugged it a bit on one or two. Still enjoyed it though and then got off at the top and hiked over a rock outcropping for an overview of the road for the pictures below.

From there I headed up interstate 70 to Idaho Springs for a beer at the Tommy-knockers brewery, I was the only customer in the joint - slow day for them so they treated me like a king! I got a nice tour of the place sort of impromptu, they made me a nice Pastrami sandwich on rye and with the brown ale it was fantastic. I must say the beer is much better there than in the bottles - its always good at the brewery. I am glad I stopped

I finished my lunch and since the road to Mount Evans is right there I headed up Squaw pass hoping to get in some nice pictures I wasn't expecting what I found, ICE IN ALL THE SHADY PARTS

      gallery_491_3463_419309.png

Icy patches on Squaw Pass definitely taking it easy on that road

There were some section where the ice covered the whole road for 300 yards or so I had to roll through it with my legs out to help keep the bike from sliding and falling over, I took it real slow. A Ford pickup was right behind me so I pulled over to let him pass but the guy was going slower then even I was so I pressed on - in places where I could see I just cut over to the oncoming lane and out of the ice where the sun was shining on the road more, but some places there was not alternative so I just had to go slow, good thing it wasn't slick but rather they tossed some gravel over the worst parts so I had some traction!

I did stop for pictures in all the best spots

Not that it matters and not that I expect anyone had noticed, but to those who sent me "where are you?" I would like to say I am back. Not only that I am officially returning to VFRD after nearly 2 months break but I have also ridden my Hawk last weekend and had FUN! Let me restate that; I had major fun riding! Something I have almost given up on.

Most of you have been riding your whole adult lives and riding is not only a hobby to you, it is part of you. But I started riding three years ago and even though I have encounter some setbacks, till this spring I loved riding with whole my heart. However, I have always considered riding as my hobby. As a hobby which suppose to make my life better, more fun and more rich. Life is too short to do something which we don't fully love.

My love of riding received a first major scar this spring: I lost a friend on the racetrack. He was a total stranger who offered me his help after I lowsided at CMP track last year. I still remember hearing his "Hi, my name is Todd, do you need help?" while I was duct-taping my roadrash from ripped jacket. He helped me straighten up the shifter and we kept in touch. The next time we saw each other was the day he died.

With 9 months delay, I can say that Todd's death shook me more than I have realized. It rooted fear in me which was fueled by seeing and hearing about others getting hurt over and over again. If I was to summarize this year - it would be one big accident report. I became sensitive to every broken bone, every roadrash, every lowside. And even though I did 10 track days this year, I became slower and slower and slower. Suddenly, I have acquired this 'grandma' riding style on the road, frozen with fear that behind every corner there is car standing in my lane, or major sand trap or deer staring at me ... I was crippled with fear not only for me about also for my fellow rider.

So, at the end of this year, I rode more and more by myself. I could not bear the feelings of responsibility for others on the road and my lines were crippled by my own fears. It all culminated this fall at WDGAH. In a freaky accident Love2rideh82crash was taken down by a truck crossing into our lane. I was done. I finished the weekend, locked the VFR into a garage and took a break.

Until the last weekend, I pretended that motorcycles do not exists. As a last instance after 2 months break from riding, I decided to go to CMP track to see if I can still have fun. I also felt like I should go for the memory of Todd. I went and I had fun! I had much more fun than I expected and the most fun on track I can remember. Suddenly the whole track connected into an uninterupted line of turns and I felt one with the bike riding around! I was giggling like a little girl in my helmet and keep on giggling ever since smile.gif

Granted I was not the fastest one and through out the weekend, I have never exceeded about 60% of my riding abilities, but I had no "oh-shit" nor 'blond' moments. I could have maybe go faster, I could have brake later for the turns and I could have lean further, but I am no Rossi nor Stoner. I decided to ride for fun and I had amazing blast riding well within my comfort zone.

I was proud of myself when, after bandaging Ricks arm, I was able to distance myself and go back to riding without the year-long fear. I did feel bad for him but the feelings were not crippling my lines nor my mind. And when a total stranger came to me and said "Hi, my name is Todd", my heart stopped for a minute though but I suddenly knew that my life went a full circle. I probably will never win MotoGP :idea3: , but I am back! :wheel:
