  2. Great idea, I do enjoy reading and watching anything motorcycle related V4Hondabbs.com - First Gen V4 site. Old school, lots and lots of tech knowledge. Been a member for 20 years. We still do get togethers in the Spring and Fall. Kinda quiet, but we tend to be an older bunch. On Facebook groups. VF1000R Honda VF1000R VFRD people Youtube FortNine - Sometimes informative, sometimes quirky, always entertaining. Agree with Revzilla and Ari and Zach, they always seem to present usable information in a professional manner. Have to mention print magazines also. Bike Classic Motorcycle Mechanics Practicle Sportsbikes (sadly no longer in print form). All are UK published.

  4. Do i need to do something with ECU? removing any sensors, wires etc? or just only fabricate covers? My vfr is early model with manual choke and not equipped with oxygen sensors. Lets continue the story, next on the list: break fluid and brake pump. Fluid was dark and old but worst thing is how breaks feels. It was hard to operate it smoothly, breaks bite quite hard. Aluminium oxidation? Something is growing inside 😄 not that bad inside, the clutch reservoir was in much worse condition. Lever going out old grease turned into gel like sticky goo well ye, im glad i already have rebuild kit This is old grease Yep there is clearly a wear in gaskets Rebuild kit all clean no pitting its all sticky cleaned and new grease applied little bit of rubber grease wont hurt here comes worst part After some pumping Breaks operate smooth now, i was scared about this bleeding procedure but lever feels nice and solid. Im planning to install the rear shock from a Fireblade 929 so i manufactured by myself 2 Shock mount using this blueprints. One is made of aluminium pa6 and second one from stainless steel 306. I just realize maybe its not a good idea to use aluminium in part like this so i made second one. Fireblade 929 rear shock After some cleaning. This brings us where i im today with progress. Now i need to remove wheels from bike and take them apart (bearing, tires, brake discs) and powercoat it. I thinik im going for silver colour just like @Skids have on his VFR 🙂

  6. I’ve checked fuses with my power pro. Good amperage and continuity. I was suspecting that at the very beginning

  8. I saw an instance of this - turned out to be the kill switch. Shot a bit of contact cleaner in around the edges, cycled it a few times and back to normal. Not sure if your diagnosis has ruled that out or not.

  10. Maybe in the future, so far i did snorkel and flapper valve delete and ye its a lot smoother ride now.
  11. Looking great. Are you going to delete the PAIR valves? I think it makes the bike noticeably smoother, especially at lower revs.

  14. (not counting VFRworld) I'm curious to find out who reads what around here, and hey, I might find a great site that I've missed. For me, my motorcycle interests are motogp racing, the m/c industry, new models, etc. I check these regularly: Motomatters The best motogp site IMHO. Run and authored by a Brit, David Emmett. Yeah, it cost $50 USD a year but well worth it. Revzilla Common Tread True, it supports a motorcycle accessories company (Revzilla/Cycle Gear), but the content is good, and it has Ari and Zach, who produce great motorcycle video content. motorcycle.com Dennis Chung is a real detective when it comes to figuring out new model introductions and motorcycle company financial reports. I still look at the Cycle World web site, but it is kinda generic, nothing like the mag used to be. V4 Dreams is always fun and he's one of us. And places like BAT, Iconic Motorbike Auctions, and Rolling Physics Problem are fun every now and then.   18. Brand new reg rec, too. I’ve checked all of my grounds as well. No error codes and no FI light
  19. My small paint brush is actually an electric shaver cleaning brush. I have a few different brushes for cooper & nickel anti-seize, & various grease. The small stiff bristles spread product well.
  20. Dead reg rec? But that wouldn’t stop it firing on a full battery… Id say dead coils but that wouldn’t stop the pump priming… Did you check the earth block on the harness? If you bridge it to the frame it’ll tell you. Mate of mine diagnoses electrical woes by wiggling parts of the harness until something happens/stops happening. It’s stupid but surprisingly effective. No error codes, I suspect?
  21. Yep, production year 2009 😄 I will soon have the rims powder coated and at the same time I will replace the tires with Metzeler SPORTEC M9 RR. Yep, coolant change with multiple flushes, Battery and fuel pump were repleaced by previous owner just to start the bike, fuel tank looks spotless inside. Im going to buy carbtune then ill do Sv's. Ok lets continue story, there is one thing i absolutely hate about this bike, gauges. Font on this gauges looks like late 90's microsoft word school project. Dirty i need to disassembly it completly, this way it will be a lot easier to clean it. Cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and soft brush. Not bad for 27 years old bike, only one trace were damage. I dont have better option so its stay as it is. Works fine so i cannot complain. All clean Old vs new Done I always wanted red backlight and this one fits 1:1 no issues 😄 And we have a problem, backlight is so uneven oem have nice black dots to help spread light evenly. So i need to strip front paint from old ones Old ones went under new It worked 😄 Now its nice and even. Ok moving to cooling system. Does not look bad, fluid came out nice and clean. While in the store, I bought this cheap radiator flush out of curiosity. I thought I would do it purely as a preventive measure because old coolant looks clean so nothing is wrong. I see some foam. I warmed up the engine to operating temperature and left it like that for 3 days because I didn't have time to continue working. 3 days later i see some flakes in reservoir. Hoooly, i didnt expect coolant system to be that dirty I did 5 more flushes with destiled water and this is last one, im tired of it. I will do final one after some time riding this bike. Still a lot of crap inside reservoir i did trick with acid and it worked perfectly. Now its clean as can be. Pair valves Front and Rear were absolutely clogged with carbon deposits I also looked inside the airbox yeee to be expected, OEM Honda air filter, sadly i I couldn't find the production date, but it might be from 1998. Little bit oily Got Hilflo one to keep cost of this "project" low Airbox out soaking Much better now all clean To the spark plugs Yee i need to take radiators out and give them good cleaning. Looks almost new rear ones Looks completly different and oily 😞 Something is wrong This front from clutch lever side looks diferent from others. And also exhaust pipe is wet. Clearly there is a diference between this one and rest For now i have put iridium ones, i need to keep an eye on this issue I could not resist and bought new Barracuda grips and bar ends. I am concerned that one of the spark plugs (front one from clutch lever side) looks very clean compared to the rest. The exhaust manifold on this cylinder is also wet. It's just hard for me to tell if it's oil or coolant im not quite sure yet (maybe leaking fuel injector?), I have to remove the exhaust manifold from this cylinder and take closer look, any ideas and tips what can cause this issue?
  22. I just changed my vpn to Poland and taaa daaa.... Beautiful looking bike. 🍻 Similar to mine, story on here. Have you checked the tyres? They should display a date of manufacture on them. Coolant change? Battery? Air filter and fuel tank worth checking too. And then balance the SVs. 👍 Enjoy. 🍻
  23. I don’t have HISS. Mine is a U.S. bike battery is in good state as well. I’ve also checked all relays (tested good), and the ignition is brand new. Bike is also in neutral haha

  27. Thanks MBrane, appreciate the tips. I DID become a human rag! Unfortunately steel bolts don’t survive in the UK. Galvanised ones only last about 5 years and my bike is nearly 30. The constant damp and salt deteriorates everything, even garaged machines. There’s a brown puddle under mine as we speak. Byproduct of living on an island. You guys in the US are lucky. For example, check out a used VFR brake caliper on eBay US, and compare it to one on eBay UK. You’ll be shocked! You’re right about galvanic corrosion and thread galling. These are real things, so I use copper antiseize on virtually everything. The copper “sacrifices” itself in the reaction, leaving the bolts and the aluminium part unaffected. This is why when you pull out an old antiseized bolt, the copper will have turned black. Thanks Gaz. Curious why you say ACF50 is better than copper slip? Don’t the copper particles help with torquing down bolts? Surely the oil would get squished out under high pressure, whereas the copper powder stays put and helps the threads slide against each other better? Rolls Royce and Bombardier use antiseize on their fasteners. It’s really expensive silvery stuff, but concept is the same as copper. The metal particles stop threads from galling and also form a barrier to corrosion. Finally, the copper takes the corrosive hit if anything gets through, leaving the steel and aluminium unharmed. That’s my understanding anyway. Happy to be corrected. I use ACF50 all over the place, but antiseize for fasteners. Will give ACF50 a try on fasteners now… Just for the record, I’ve never had a failed fastener or struggled to remove a fastener that’s been antiseized. Ever. Not even brake parts or exhaust studs. I even use it on brake disc bolts (where most people use Loctite), and never had a bolt back out, gall or corrode. I am not advising anyone follows my lead here, just sharing my experience.

      Juniper Pass

      I took a day off from work and also from my bicycle training to take out the Veefalo one last time before the weather turns ugly, supposed to snow the rest of the week and possibly start sticking to the ground along the Colorado Front Range. I took a leisurely pace up hwy 105 toward Morrison and got reacquainted with the bike since its been over a month since I took any sort of twisties on it at all, hwy 105 is a scenic ride along the front range between Denver and Colorado Springs, its mostly easy fast sweepers and lite traffic so its a favorite road of mine when going north. Then I have to negotiate a bit of traffic near Highlands ranch and up hwy 470 into the mountains. I decided to take the Morrison Exit and try either Lookout Mountain or head up Golden Gate Canyon - this time it was Lookout Mountain, I was sort of making it up on the fly as I went along. Lookout Mountain is my old bicycling haunt from my days while I was working at Coors, its a killer ride and all uphill - I don't think I could do it today If I had to, not quite there yet! I saw a whole bunch of riders doing it though and wished I was in shape enough to be there doing it as well. 30 more lbs and I will be able to do it! On this day I would do it on the Veefalo instead.

       

       

       

       

      I took a video from the gateway to the top at the Lookout Mountain State Park, getting past riders, the guy in the green jacket actually pretty much astounded me with how far he had gotten in the short time it took me to set up my camera, some 3 miles at least and up to the gateway from the turn off at hwy 6! Amazing I thought. I took the first two turns slow then got more comfortable as I went up further, till I was doing well, I made some gearing mistakes and took the tight 15mph marked hairpins in the wrong gear so I lugged it a bit on one or two. Still enjoyed it though and then got off at the top and hiked over a rock outcropping for an overview of the road for the pictures below.

      From there I headed up interstate 70 to Idaho Springs for a beer at the Tommy-knockers brewery, I was the only customer in the joint - slow day for them so they treated me like a king! I got a nice tour of the place sort of impromptu, they made me a nice Pastrami sandwich on rye and with the brown ale it was fantastic. I must say the beer is much better there than in the bottles - its always good at the brewery. I am glad I stopped

      I finished my lunch and since the road to Mount Evans is right there I headed up Squaw pass hoping to get in some nice pictures I wasn't expecting what I found, ICE IN ALL THE SHADY PARTS

      There were some section where the ice covered the whole road for 300 yards or so I had to roll through it with my legs out to help keep the bike from sliding and falling over, I took it real slow. A Ford pickup was right behind me so I pulled over to let him pass but the guy was going slower then even I was so I pressed on - in places where I could see I just cut over to the oncoming lane and out of the ice where the sun was shining on the road more, but some places there was not alternative so I just had to go slow, good thing it wasn't slick but rather they tossed some gravel over the worst parts so I had some traction!

      Not that it matters and not that I expect anyone had noticed, but to those who sent me "where are you?" I would like to say I am back. Not only that I am officially returning to VFRD after nearly 2 months break but I have also ridden my Hawk last weekend and had FUN! Let me restate that; I had major fun riding! Something I have almost given up on.

      Most of you have been riding your whole adult lives and riding is not only a hobby to you, it is part of you. But I started riding three years ago and even though I have encounter some setbacks, till this spring I loved riding with whole my heart. However, I have always considered riding as my hobby. As a hobby which suppose to make my life better, more fun and more rich. Life is too short to do something which we don't fully love.

      My love of riding received a first major scar this spring: I lost a friend on the racetrack. He was a total stranger who offered me his help after I lowsided at CMP track last year. I still remember hearing his "Hi, my name is Todd, do you need help?" while I was duct-taping my roadrash from ripped jacket. He helped me straighten up the shifter and we kept in touch. The next time we saw each other was the day he died.

      With 9 months delay, I can say that Todd's death shook me more than I have realized. It rooted fear in me which was fueled by seeing and hearing about others getting hurt over and over again. If I was to summarize this year - it would be one big accident report. I became sensitive to every broken bone, every roadrash, every lowside. And even though I did 10 track days this year, I became slower and slower and slower. Suddenly, I have acquired this 'grandma' riding style on the road, frozen with fear that behind every corner there is car standing in my lane, or major sand trap or deer staring at me ... I was crippled with fear not only for me about also for my fellow rider.

      So, at the end of this year, I rode more and more by myself. I could not bear the feelings of responsibility for others on the road and my lines were crippled by my own fears. It all culminated this fall at WDGAH. In a freaky accident Love2rideh82crash was taken down by a truck crossing into our lane. I was done. I finished the weekend, locked the VFR into a garage and took a break.

      Until the last weekend, I pretended that motorcycles do not exists. As a last instance after 2 months break from riding, I decided to go to CMP track to see if I can still have fun. I also felt like I should go for the memory of Todd. I went and I had fun! I had much more fun than I expected and the most fun on track I can remember. Suddenly the whole track connected into an uninterupted line of turns and I felt one with the bike riding around! I was giggling like a little girl in my helmet and keep on giggling ever since smile.gif

      Granted I was not the fastest one and through out the weekend, I have never exceeded about 60% of my riding abilities, but I had no "oh-shit" nor 'blond' moments. I could have maybe go faster, I could have brake later for the turns and I could have lean further, but I am no Rossi nor Stoner. I decided to ride for fun and I had amazing blast riding well within my comfort zone.

      I was proud of myself when, after bandaging Ricks arm, I was able to distance myself and go back to riding without the year-long fear. I did feel bad for him but the feelings were not crippling my lines nor my mind. And when a total stranger came to me and said "Hi, my name is Todd", my heart stopped for a minute though but I suddenly knew that my life went a full circle. I probably will never win MotoGP :idea3: , but I am back! :wheel:
