  2. More parts. Big ones are a new 6th gen water pump and a flywheel from a 2007. It was nice to get spark plugs in. as3 shorted me on some hose clamps. They responded quickly, and those clamps cleared customs today. Getting the radiator and some hoses installed feels good. I ordered a 6th gen thermostat housing off eBay. We will see if that fits.

  5. Boom! USPS came thru today. I'm gonna call this solved for me. Whew. Found a 10mm OD new one online. Some guy selling them (made in Italy) on ebay. He has a bunch of them (new stock) in all different widths (I had to get two more in different sizes for my ZX. Same issue there. OEM ones are NLA, gas just destroyed them.) Ebay seller name is valtermotousa in case anyone needs it. Various lengths and widths available, but the 10mm x 56mm works for me. Search under "OMG Italy petcock replace filter screen 10mm diameter X 56mm long" in his store of nearly 5000 items (!) I cut a small V notch in the ring on the base in order to get it close enough to the big straw to fit into the round hole in the base. Zip tie keeps it straight. Held in by tension alone...it's tight.
  6. Wait....my bolts are different than the ones in the manual. I was just now thinking "I'm missing washers so I'll have to get some, according to the manual pic" but now I think they are not even the same bolts.

Hey I didn't want to start a new thread when this one should work just fine: I recently found the grab rails for my 94 as well and need some info as I'm getting all the bikes ready for a somewhat regular passenger: my 14 year old son. Oh. And don't bother sending in your application for Dad of the Year this year. I got it wrapped up. Rolling into the pick up/drop off line at the middle school on a bike is instant lifetime Dad award. You have never seen so many young 6th/7th/8th grade boys ignore their parents stern requests to "get in the car we have things to do!" and stand slackjawed while snapping pics and sending texts to my son with pics and every question under the sun, such as "How much does it cost?" and "How fast will it go?" over and over again. So far we've been on the 6th gen r/w/b a good bit, and the ZX once (Still having carb issues there. Not sure of next steps.) but the 750 is up soon for carb work I hope and then the 500. Springtime is gonna be fun fun fun over at the middle school. Teenage boys are still into bikes, believe it or not. Sure gets them off their phones and looking up and talking and interacting pretty damn fast, I know that. Seriously, every kid in that school goes home with "When can I get a bike?" every time I ride to pick-up. I guarantee it. Makes me laugh when I give it the revs and the boys jump and yell and the moms in the cars and the teachers facilitating it all just glare at me. Lo, do I laugh loudly in my helmet. Just giggling every damn time. When there's a huge spike in new bike sales in...2-4 years, the OEMs can thank me for it. VFR content: For passenger confidence, I found the grab rails and a small pkg of hardware that obviously I took off with them since it was all taped together. Took them off...25-28 years ago? I saw Dutchy's pic of the manual, and I've look on the Partzilla pics, but not sure what the small bumpers with the screws, and the triangle-shaped tabs are. Any ideas? Who has them still on the bike and can post a pic?

  9. I bought some regular "bondo" for the fill portion of the body work. Now I find out you should use a flex filler on the plastic.

  14. I would possibly consider doing it if I had an ADV rig like some older GS with tall screen and goofy cockpit, but I wouldn't want a tablet mounted on my current rides.
  15. I am def not a AA power user, but it is great in my car for music, Audio book app (Libby), and calls. I rarely use guiding Nav, can't stand it. I would rather get lost and not have devices to interact with on my bike. It's a big reason why I'm likely on the bike. BT comms with my wife on the ST1100 is probably as far as I will go.
  16. I think you may be overestimating Android Auto! I have AA in my van, and I'm not a big fan, mainly because it is so frustrating to use. Recently I've been using my phone in a dash holder without the AA running (through the head unit) at all. It is frustrating because the AA "apps" you can download are very limited, and even when they exist for a particular phone app, they don't let you do very much (safety reasons!). Google Maps Directions and Waze both work well via AA, but most other apps I use are not very useful via AA. Maybe it helps primarily with audio-related operations? Minimum, you'd need to interface it with your helmet intercom system for those features to work. Ciao, JZH
  17. I haven't bothered doing this, as my phone on a QuadLock is fine for whatever I'm doing. However, what I've seen in person from other riders who do this (on bikes that didn't come with a large TFT with Android Auto already there) You get a generic Android Auto screen on Amazon. They are all over, so I have no recommendations. Just search "motorcycle Android Auto". Figure out the mount you want on your bike, figure out power connection and should be good to go once you sync your phone.
  18. Minor update: I have been going through the bike and tidying it up. There's a lot to do... After all, it has been parked for many years, and whilst it is quite clean, I've discovered some rusty and corroded parts. I've also decided to improve upon my wiring (which has improved substantially since I've done so much re-wiring on my Hiace van). But, on the maintenance side, I don't even know when the valves were last done. Actually, I can say they have definitely not been done since I fitted the supercharger. I know this because I have discovered that it is impossible to open the front valve cover without removing the compressor and many of its components. If I had the valve covers open I guess I could figure out where TDC is (after pulling the plugs), but that's the only option unless I remove the crank pulley adapter, which I believe requires the removal of the clutch cover... So, as you can guess, I've decided I'm not touching the valves during this "service"! I'll have enough to do, anyway. For example, the stem bearings were shot--I have never felt such a pronounced "notch" before on any bike. Part of that was probably due to solidified grease and the bike sitting for many years, but it wasn't a good sign. As I'm not doing the forks now, I am sacrificing a set of bearings (which will not be swapped onto the 929/954 lower triple), but that'll be worth it to avoid additional RDW inspection hassles about the brakes and the de-linking. I'm not looking forward to bleeding the linked brakes, but I have done it before. I also need to put on the new tires and put in the new fluids, and then we'll see if she starts... ...but I expect, like the last time, one or more of the fuel injectors will be stuck closed!   19. Your phone functions, apps and content become accessible on the Android Auto equipped head unit (like in a car), or similar device. So your bike needs an AA enabled screen device mounted on the bars / triple clamp that your Android phone can connect to, preferably via Bluetooth. But some units are wired connection only. Disclaimer: I am certainly not an AA expert, as it took me a few rounds to finally get my Pioneer in the STi to connect to my phone automatically via BT.
  20. I'm probably being a bit old and stupid but how do I start Android Auto for use on my bike? As far as I can tell, it will only become accessible when connected to a recognised car. Neither of our cars has it. Thanks.

  22. Odd thing on the seat cowl is that my friends 2008 is grey, but came that cowl from a 2007 RWB. I've also got a carbon look one from "off shore" and it fits rather nicely.
  23. The ones out of China are probably pretty decent, including color match. At least you'd have one while you look for an OEM version.

  27. Hello. It's time to sell my bike. 2014 vfr800 deluxe. 53,000 miles. Full bags, lithium battery, bar risers, ixil exhaust, new tires last year, garmin GPS, kaoko throttle lock, givi touring windshield, always well maintained. Coolant changed twice, brake fluid flushed every other year, regular oil changes, etc. I've ridden it out west three times, up Pike's Peak, tail of the dragon, ironbutt saddlesore 1000, etc. I did drop it once in my driveway, resulting is a scratched left side pannier, and a very small scratch on the fairing. Bikes in really good shape, as you can tell, I love my vfr. I just have had life changes, and won't be riding for a while. I hope to find a new home for it, where the next owner loves it as much as I did. I'm in North East Ohio. $5250. Thanks for looking! Edit: I also have the takeoff parts. Rear seat cowl, grab bars, grab bar delete covers, factory windshield, OEM muffler, etc.

      Juniper Pass

      I took a day off from work and also from my bicycle training to take out the Veefalo one last time before the weather turns ugly, supposed to snow the rest of the week and possibly start sticking to the ground along the Colorado Front Range. I took a leisurely pace up hwy 105 toward Morrison and got reacquainted with the bike since its been over a month since I took any sort of twisties on it at all, hwy 105 is a scenic ride along the front range between Denver and Colorado Springs, its mostly easy fast sweepers and lite traffic so its a favorite road of mine when going north. Then I have to negotiate a bit of traffic near Highlands ranch and up hwy 470 into the mountains. I decided to take the Morrison Exit and try either Lookout Mountain or head up Golden Gate Canyon - this time it was Lookout Mountain, I was sort of making it up on the fly as I went along. Lookout Mountain is my old bicycling haunt from my days while I was working at Coors, its a killer ride and all uphill - I don't think I could do it today If I had to, not quite there yet! I saw a whole bunch of riders doing it though and wished I was in shape enough to be there doing it as well. 30 more lbs and I will be able to do it! On this day I would do it on the Veefalo instead.

       

       

       

       

      I took a video from the gateway to the top at the Lookout Mountain State Park, getting past riders, the guy in the green jacket actually pretty much astounded me with how far he had gotten in the short time it took me to set up my camera, some 3 miles at least and up to the gateway from the turn off at hwy 6! Amazing I thought. I took the first two turns slow then got more comfortable as I went up further, till I was doing well, I made some gearing mistakes and took the tight 15mph marked hairpins in the wrong gear so I lugged it a bit on one or two. Still enjoyed it though and then got off at the top and hiked over a rock outcropping for an overview of the road for the pictures below.

      From there I headed up interstate 70 to Idaho Springs for a beer at the Tommy-knockers brewery, I was the only customer in the joint - slow day for them so they treated me like a king! I got a nice tour of the place sort of impromptu, they made me a nice Pastrami sandwich on rye and with the brown ale it was fantastic. I must say the beer is much better there than in the bottles - its always good at the brewery. I am glad I stopped

      I finished my lunch and since the road to Mount Evans is right there I headed up Squaw pass hoping to get in some nice pictures I wasn't expecting what I found, ICE IN ALL THE SHADY PARTS

      There were some section where the ice covered the whole road for 300 yards or so I had to roll through it with my legs out to help keep the bike from sliding and falling over, I took it real slow. A Ford pickup was right behind me so I pulled over to let him pass but the guy was going slower then even I was so I pressed on - in places where I could see I just cut over to the oncoming lane and out of the ice where the sun was shining on the road more, but some places there was not alternative so I just had to go slow, good thing it wasn't slick but rather they tossed some gravel over the worst parts so I had some traction!

      Not that it matters and not that I expect anyone had noticed, but to those who sent me "where are you?" I would like to say I am back. Not only that I am officially returning to VFRD after nearly 2 months break but I have also ridden my Hawk last weekend and had FUN! Let me restate that; I had major fun riding! Something I have almost given up on.

      Most of you have been riding your whole adult lives and riding is not only a hobby to you, it is part of you. But I started riding three years ago and even though I have encounter some setbacks, till this spring I loved riding with whole my heart. However, I have always considered riding as my hobby. As a hobby which suppose to make my life better, more fun and more rich. Life is too short to do something which we don't fully love.

      My love of riding received a first major scar this spring: I lost a friend on the racetrack. He was a total stranger who offered me his help after I lowsided at CMP track last year. I still remember hearing his "Hi, my name is Todd, do you need help?" while I was duct-taping my roadrash from ripped jacket. He helped me straighten up the shifter and we kept in touch. The next time we saw each other was the day he died.

      With 9 months delay, I can say that Todd's death shook me more than I have realized. It rooted fear in me which was fueled by seeing and hearing about others getting hurt over and over again. If I was to summarize this year - it would be one big accident report. I became sensitive to every broken bone, every roadrash, every lowside. And even though I did 10 track days this year, I became slower and slower and slower. Suddenly, I have acquired this 'grandma' riding style on the road, frozen with fear that behind every corner there is car standing in my lane, or major sand trap or deer staring at me ... I was crippled with fear not only for me about also for my fellow rider.

      So, at the end of this year, I rode more and more by myself. I could not bear the feelings of responsibility for others on the road and my lines were crippled by my own fears. It all culminated this fall at WDGAH. In a freaky accident Love2rideh82crash was taken down by a truck crossing into our lane. I was done. I finished the weekend, locked the VFR into a garage and took a break.

      Until the last weekend, I pretended that motorcycles do not exists. As a last instance after 2 months break from riding, I decided to go to CMP track to see if I can still have fun. I also felt like I should go for the memory of Todd. I went and I had fun! I had much more fun than I expected and the most fun on track I can remember. Suddenly the whole track connected into an uninterupted line of turns and I felt one with the bike riding around! I was giggling like a little girl in my helmet and keep on giggling ever since smile.gif

      Granted I was not the fastest one and through out the weekend, I have never exceeded about 60% of my riding abilities, but I had no "oh-shit" nor 'blond' moments. I could have maybe go faster, I could have brake later for the turns and I could have lean further, but I am no Rossi nor Stoner. I decided to ride for fun and I had amazing blast riding well within my comfort zone.

      I was proud of myself when, after bandaging Ricks arm, I was able to distance myself and go back to riding without the year-long fear. I did feel bad for him but the feelings were not crippling my lines nor my mind. And when a total stranger came to me and said "Hi, my name is Todd", my heart stopped for a minute though but I suddenly knew that my life went a full circle. I probably will never win MotoGP :idea3: , but I am back! :wheel:
