  2. This sounds great but it begs the question, where can I get the RapidBike module? Unless the RC46 module works on the RC79 which I doubt is the case, I cannot find the RC79 module for sale anywhere. I’ve read the RapidBike has autotuner out of the gate compared to the PC6 which makes me want to go that route, but if people have had good experiences with the PC6 I’ll settle for that. I don’t think the touring screen looks half bad and the amount of wind protection it provides is substantial which I very much appreciate. I intend to do a trackday or two on the bike so I may get a puig double bubble when the time comes but I’m happy with the current aero setup.
  3. I have a 1998 VFR 800 that needs a new RR. I bought a new MOSFET RR from regulatorrectifier.com, which was delivered really fast btw! 🙂 From the videos I have seen on installing these, many folks recommend soldering the wires for best connection. I am good with soldering the 3x yellow wires from the Stator, but my question is about the 2x red and 2x black wires. All the folks I saw install them had 1x Red and 1x Black wire directly from the RR to the battery (with 30amp fuse on red) and bypassing the wiring harness plug. Questions: 1) should I just connect the new RR using the supplied connectors, or solder the wires? 2) If I solder the wires, should I solder the RR 2x red /2x black to the 2x red/white / 2x Green wires from the bike? 3) I am not sure how I would wire it directly to the battery with 2x red/ 2x black wires... splice the 2x red / 2x black together, so its one set of Red / Black going to battery? Appreciate the help! thank you for reading.
  4. Hi FromMaine, Thank you for your donation of 50.00 USD. We look forward to improving the forums with your donation. Thanks VFRDiscussion

  6. Yep. The Honda Wing, and the "VFR" on the lowers, are charcoal metallic grey on the interior of the graphic. This shows it a bit better.
  7. That looks amazing with the black and gold. Im guessing you'd buy that with the 2 color option?
  8. I did some custom decals from Honda-Decals.com out of Malta.
  9. Actually, that sounds about what I was thinking it is, I will try and confirm when I'm in the shop tonite.
  10. Just found out that one of the idle adjustment cables from another bike (kawasaki) I'm looking at is M6x1.0 I'm told. Hoping the OEM one on the 500 is the same.
  11. I believe "unleash the power" is the phrase you're looking for, lol. And if FF wants to all-out "hot rod" the 5th gen engine, more power to him (pun intended), but it is not something that many have attempted. I suspect because it is expensive and doesn't result in proportional gains. So the only way to get this kind of information is probably to strip the engine himself. Fortunately, VFR engines are fairly inexpensive...possibly because nobody hot rods them! Ciao, JZH
  12. With the clutch cover fitted can you turn the engine over with a socket to the end of the crank? Sort of sounds like the starter is jammed when you have the clutch cover mounted, so maybe the reduction gears aren't sitting right? Wild ass guess on my part.
  13. Contact Jamie Daugherty at DMR, fairly sure he can supply a set of rebound adjusters to suit your forks (or can modify them for you). https://daughertymotorsports.com/
  14. Hey guys. I resprayed the bike after doing a lot of plastic repair and dent repair on the gas tank. I bought some gas tank decal, forgot how it looked like and from whom, and painted clear over it. It trapped some air and I decided to strip it all back to metal. Ended up being a great decisions since I had to go through 2 red layers, a black, a blue and then down to the original yellow. It's been sitting primed and now 2 years later im ready to put the color back on and to add a decal. Have any of you replaced or at least had to buy a decal for the gas tank? If so, did you use stock, something custom or something from another honda bike that looks good? If so, any suggestions? My bike is a 2001 red but, it's going to be slightly darker with gold metallic flakes to match the gold powder coated wheels.
  15. I've got a Piug double bubble screen on my 8th gen, I run it on Esso Supreme 99, (100% gasoline) exclusively, RapidBike fitted @5k miles which has altered the VTEC transition, it's gone from a jerk to feeling like a 2 stroke hitting the pipe, if you know what I mean The Ermax hugger/changuard combo is more aesthetically pleasing to me anyway than the Honda offering Bridgestone tyres, which is my personal preference
  16. Hello V-GODs here yet again with yet another brain buster of a problem. So after replacing my clutch plates and puting everything back together I hear 1 click coming from the starter relay selenoid. I hear the fuel pump prime and everything as should however, upon inspecting the battery and relay with a multimeter and off the Vs on battery alone = 12.9V and was just purchased 2 months ago and placed on tender when bikes not in use so no doubt battery is fine. Furthermore, same when tested selenoid to ground on battery they both read 12.9V bike off and in the on position but when start button is pushed they both drop to zero Vs. I take the Crank/ Gear case off and its starts up fine case cover goes on no start and 1 click from selenoid.
  17. On my 6th gen I have the Oxford touring grips, Helibars, and a Throttlemeister (comes with new bar end weights in different colors/finishes) and everything plays very well together. No issues. On the right bar the Throttlemeisters come with a small short sleeve that slides under the Oxford to give the end of the grip a bit of a harder “stop” for the Throttlemeisters to do their thing.
  18. First of all Congrats on the bike. One of the best made motorcycles ever built. Get rid of that tall fairing screen . Its makes a good looking bike look like shit. I just went from Michelin Road 5s to Dunlop Roadsmart 4s and I feel the Dunlops are superior in tip in and side to side transient response. Good luck and ride safe.
  19. Congrats & welcome!
  20. That's a good one, VTCAL I made the same, grounding the casing of the RR to the chassis.
  21. Sounds like it would be worth checking the vacuum lines. A broken line, or leaking throttle body insulator could cause low rpm issues. A throttle body sync may also be a good starting point as well
  22. Team Bike Classic Endurance racing bore the cylinders out to maximum and fit modified CBR pistons, which takes the power to around 140 bhp without any other modifications
  23. Can't help you with the spring spec but I'd recommend searching the forums for 'factory power' and 'increasing powers'. That might give you a sense of what is or isn't possible. As far as memory serves the only really striking gains in HP and torque were made by fitting a supercharger. I believe Sebspeed and JZH were 2 members who did that. Others have made adjustments in fuel mapping to make changes in how the engine responds and some modest gains.
  24. Congrats on the 8 gen. I have the RC93 deluxe model from 2017. Have a look at posts by OklaTwister. I believe he fitted a PC6 and the Adreani Misano forks cartridges and reported excellent results. On tyres I've used the Michelins and Metzler's and been very happy with them both. The carcases on both those tyres are a bit softer than Bridgestone or Dunlop so help with plushness but I'm not really sure about effect on tip in - I guess that's as much about personal preference and technique as it is about the tyre. What I mean is whether one consciously opposite steers on corner entry, whether one rides corners with a bit of hanging off, and how aggressively one rides.
  25. Well the Transalp is ready, all small issues fixed and the heated grips wire rerouted for cleaner look. Can't help to take a picture of my 2 Honda's in HRC colors As compare what I had in 2021 The Africa Twin was stunning but had a not so comfortable seat, the CBR1000F had the most comfortable seat I had on a motorcycle! But perhaps not a corner craver. My current I really like both! The VFR has so much charter and Transalp is comfortable and both look stunning now 🙂
  26. Hi all, I purchased my RC79 with ~28000 miles about a month ago and I’ve been loving it so far! Definitely a step up from the FZ6 Fazer I was riding before while being an overall much more refined machine, all smiles every time I get the chance to hit the road. Not the fastest or flashiest bike but it is sure as hell one of the more unique/cool ones in my opinion. With that being said I’ve got some questions that I’m hoping you folks can help answer. This is the base model so no ABS/TC, fork adjustment, quick shifter, etc. The assists I can live without, but I would love to get adjustable suspension and the coveted quick shifter if possible. I know Andreani makes (or made) Misano cartridge kits but I can’t find them stateside. As for the quick shifter I’m assuming I’m SOL but one can dream… If anyone has a line on these let me know. Doing some research into ECU tuning as well, a previous owner put a delkevic 8” slipon so it is loud but man does it sound good, I do want to go for a more stoichiometric AFR cause I’m sure these are fueled on the leaner side stock for emissions. Seems the go to options are either the rapid bike racing module (which I cannot find new for specifically the RC79) or the Power Commander 6, I’m wondering whether there’s benefits to the rapid bike module over the PC6 (which is more easily available). And then tire choices. Currently there’s a set of Dunlop Mutants on the bike which while squared off still handle pretty well, but I’m looking towards more sport touring biased options. Namely the Michelin Road 6s, Dunlop Roadsmart IVs (which I ran on my Fazer and liked overall, if a little hard to tip in otherwise I’d go with these by default), and Metzeler Roadtec 02s. Any feedback on these options or others people are running would be greatly appreciated, if the Michelins or the Metzelers are easier to tip in with compared to the RS4s then I’ll go that route.

    Anything goes!

      Juniper Pass

I took a day off from work and also from my bicycle training to take out the Veefalo one last time before the weather turns ugly, supposed to snow the rest of the week and possibly start sticking to the ground along the Colorado Front Range. I took a leisurely pace up hwy 105 toward Morrison and got reacquainted with the bike since its been over a month since I took any sort of twisties on it at all, hwy 105 is a scenic ride along the front range between Denver and Colorado Springs, its mostly easy fast sweepers and lite traffic so its a favorite road of mine when going north. Then I have to negotiate a bit of traffic near Highlands ranch and up hwy 470 into the mountains. I decided to take the Morrison Exit and try either Lookout Mountain or head up Golden Gate Canyon - this time it was Lookout Mountain, I was sort of making it up on the fly as I went along. Lookout Mountain is my old bicycling haunt from my days while I was working at Coors, its a killer ride and all uphill - I don't think I could do it today If I had to, not quite there yet! I saw a whole bunch of riders doing it though and wished I was in shape enough to be there doing it as well. 30 more lbs and I will be able to do it! On this day I would do it on the Veefalo instead.

I took a video from the gateway to the top at the Lookout Mountain State Park, getting past riders, the guy in the green jacket actually pretty much astounded me with how far he had gotten in the short time it took me to set up my camera, some 3 miles at least and up to the gateway from the turn off at hwy 6! Amazing I thought. I took the first two turns slow then got more comfortable as I went up further, till I was doing well, I made some gearing mistakes and took the tight 15mph marked hairpins in the wrong gear so I lugged it a bit on one or two. Still enjoyed it though and then got off at the top and hiked over a rock outcropping for an overview of the road for the pictures below.

From there I headed up interstate 70 to Idaho Springs for a beer at the Tommy-knockers brewery, I was the only customer in the joint - slow day for them so they treated me like a king! I got a nice tour of the place sort of impromptu, they made me a nice Pastrami sandwich on rye and with the brown ale it was fantastic. I must say the beer is much better there than in the bottles - its always good at the brewery. I am glad I stopped

I finished my lunch and since the road to Mount Evans is right there I headed up Squaw pass hoping to get in some nice pictures I wasn't expecting what I found, ICE IN ALL THE SHADY PARTS

      gallery_491_3463_419309.png

Icy patches on Squaw Pass definitely taking it easy on that road

There were some section where the ice covered the whole road for 300 yards or so I had to roll through it with my legs out to help keep the bike from sliding and falling over, I took it real slow. A Ford pickup was right behind me so I pulled over to let him pass but the guy was going slower then even I was so I pressed on - in places where I could see I just cut over to the oncoming lane and out of the ice where the sun was shining on the road more, but some places there was not alternative so I just had to go slow, good thing it wasn't slick but rather they tossed some gravel over the worst parts so I had some traction!

I did stop for pictures in all the best spots

Not that it matters and not that I expect anyone had noticed, but to those who sent me "where are you?" I would like to say I am back. Not only that I am officially returning to VFRD after nearly 2 months break but I have also ridden my Hawk last weekend and had FUN! Let me restate that; I had major fun riding! Something I have almost given up on.

Most of you have been riding your whole adult lives and riding is not only a hobby to you, it is part of you. But I started riding three years ago and even though I have encounter some setbacks, till this spring I loved riding with whole my heart. However, I have always considered riding as my hobby. As a hobby which suppose to make my life better, more fun and more rich. Life is too short to do something which we don't fully love.

My love of riding received a first major scar this spring: I lost a friend on the racetrack. He was a total stranger who offered me his help after I lowsided at CMP track last year. I still remember hearing his "Hi, my name is Todd, do you need help?" while I was duct-taping my roadrash from ripped jacket. He helped me straighten up the shifter and we kept in touch. The next time we saw each other was the day he died.

With 9 months delay, I can say that Todd's death shook me more than I have realized. It rooted fear in me which was fueled by seeing and hearing about others getting hurt over and over again. If I was to summarize this year - it would be one big accident report. I became sensitive to every broken bone, every roadrash, every lowside. And even though I did 10 track days this year, I became slower and slower and slower. Suddenly, I have acquired this 'grandma' riding style on the road, frozen with fear that behind every corner there is car standing in my lane, or major sand trap or deer staring at me ... I was crippled with fear not only for me about also for my fellow rider.

So, at the end of this year, I rode more and more by myself. I could not bear the feelings of responsibility for others on the road and my lines were crippled by my own fears. It all culminated this fall at WDGAH. In a freaky accident Love2rideh82crash was taken down by a truck crossing into our lane. I was done. I finished the weekend, locked the VFR into a garage and took a break.

Until the last weekend, I pretended that motorcycles do not exists. As a last instance after 2 months break from riding, I decided to go to CMP track to see if I can still have fun. I also felt like I should go for the memory of Todd. I went and I had fun! I had much more fun than I expected and the most fun on track I can remember. Suddenly the whole track connected into an uninterupted line of turns and I felt one with the bike riding around! I was giggling like a little girl in my helmet and keep on giggling ever since smile.gif

Granted I was not the fastest one and through out the weekend, I have never exceeded about 60% of my riding abilities, but I had no "oh-shit" nor 'blond' moments. I could have maybe go faster, I could have brake later for the turns and I could have lean further, but I am no Rossi nor Stoner. I decided to ride for fun and I had amazing blast riding well within my comfort zone.

I was proud of myself when, after bandaging Ricks arm, I was able to distance myself and go back to riding without the year-long fear. I did feel bad for him but the feelings were not crippling my lines nor my mind. And when a total stranger came to me and said "Hi, my name is Todd", my heart stopped for a minute though but I suddenly knew that my life went a full circle. I probably will never win MotoGP :idea3: , but I am back! :wheel:
