  2. I think you may need to pull up on it while pushing/pulling the tab on connector to get it free.
  3. Today
  4. You may need to switch over to conventional hadlebars; there are kits available that either replace the whole upper triple clamp or simply add a couple of bar clamps in place of the clip-ons. Have a look for Hurricane handlebars from Webike Japan, or Trickbitz on eBay.
  5. Gotta bag and tag and stay organized or I'll go bonkers...
  6. I was wondering if anyone knows of any handlebar risers which can raise the height beyond what I current have which is about 2". They could probably go another inch and i'd like the bars to come forward a little as well. Not possible with these bars i'm guessing. Perhaps there are some which do. I'm trying to get the perfect rising position in terms of comfort which my VFR doesn't have yet. This is probably because I'm cruising around 40mph roads and not going fast! And don't put "grow longer arms".
  7. IMHO -- the need for higher voltage on lithium Iron Phosphate batterys (liFePO4) on charging R/R is some clever marketing... I have been running one of those batterys for years and have been using a standard Shindengen FH020AA for most of that. -What is the static voltage of the Shorai? - Also, getting any other new R/R other than a Shindengen FH020AA or SH847 is not a good idea based on hundreds threads on this forum. Good luck
  8. I am assuming you have the power cables from the R/R direct to the battery. The schematic looks like And the plug can be taped up or I did a heat schrink tubing thing on mine.
  9. The Multistrada is a bigger bike (taller, longer wheelbase, high COG) and about 80lbs heavier. Not much when comparing 900lb HD's but significant if under 500lbs. The Ducati is my overnight-and-longer travel bike. I'm really looking to downsize (literally) and the Tuono's (claimed, I know...) 400lbs is an important feature for me. It also has premium suspension standard, and other bells and whistles. We''l see how the ergos are.
  10. Most of the used Tiger660's you see are for sale because someone is moving to a bigger bike for touring. It's a comfortable sport bike but not a great touring bike.
  11. Ok, now that I've got the tank off ...I have a new problem. I've removed all the connectors from the bottom of the airbox, except the knock sensor connector. I have NO idea how this is held in place. I've tried everything I can think of, including a small, thin flat blade screwdriver down into the tab area, and nothing can free this connector from the tab on the airbox. In the manual image, it's the slotted tab to the right of the arrow. I'm completely stumped. Anyone? Video of it at the QR link.
  12. Agree on the ergonomics of the Aprilia. Upper body forward lean is sporty but okay. But the footpegs are in a very sportbike-like position. Way too high for this old man, lol. Also, I don't know if things have radically improved, but when the Aprilia 660s starting coming out, I was hearing rumors of quality issues and lack of parts availability.
  13. The ergos on the Tiger660 or 800 are way more old man friendly than the Ape. Less cool for sure but more all day comfort. There are a lot of Tiger660 leftovers for closer to $7k floating around. If you were closer, I'd put you on mine for a test ride.
  14. Hi Collective, 6th gen Vtec 2003, I have swopped the OE R/R to FH020. heavier yellow cables to Stator and heavier red/black to battery terminals from new Shindengen plugs. Do I have to bridge or alter any of the OE plug to get other systems to work or do I just cover it up? thanks in advance.
  15. Hi everyone, I have been lucky, but its clear that I have the R&R going out on my 99. In searching the forum I found the troubleshooting resources to identify the problem and I see what the fix would be. That being said, I didnt see any posts about replacement R&R units for lithium (Shorai in my case) batteries. I see some other options online that are for lithium and the slightly higher charging voltage. Has anyone installed any of these? I do have some additional accessories on the 12v system and wonder if its worth getting something with a higher output voltage to keep the Shorai full. Thier literature is saying that is around 14.6 vdc. No, this likely isnt critical, but I wanted to ask the question. Thanks.
  16. I had the Corbin Beetle Bags on my 98 when I had it during the early 2000’s. Even back then they were expensive!

  18. Hmm, the Triumph holds an extra half-gallon of fuel but the Tuono is a bit lighter and shorter wheelbase. But aren't they both pretty similar to your Multi ? Both of 'em are good looking bikes.

  20. So. New tires on the Multistrada. Sold the RC-51. $5800 USD sitting in the bank to be used for, well, you know. Making progress. Sweeper has suggested a version of the Triumph 660: Sweet bike. Triumph claims about 80hp and about 455 lbs wet. That triple is something I've thought about for quite a while (in the Daytona). The sound of that engine is lovely--I've spent some time on the heels of one. Starts around $9700. And then there's the Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory. It's a (modern) twin. But claimed 105hp and 400 lbs. With upgraded suspension and all the bells and whistles. Costs more, ~$11,600. Hmmm
  21. Posting up for the halibut... I had been getting occasional whiffs of coolant smell once in a while, and couldnt find where it was coming from, so bit the bullet for a teardown... (dammit) Strip it! Found the source of the coolant smell, one of the small fittings was weeping slightly. Oring smooched like a lot of pics. (Didnt photo it.) -- Ordered new viton O-rings... from oringsandmore -- credit Captain80s....thanks Throttle body vacuum hoses are on the crispy side, ordered silicone vac lines to replace... Seems to be a good source, havent recieved yet... https://hpsperformanceproducts.com/products/hps-3-5mm-high-temperature-silicone-vacuum-hose-tubing-coolant-overflow-tube More parts ordered from RonAyers in process too.... Updates as I get the itch and recieve parts.... Cheerz and beerz
  22. While I have bought several R/Rs from Jack, I never cared for his harness stuff, the stator connector and especially the circuit breakers thing. Always got the do my own thing with solid fuse holders and either very heavy duty butt connectors or solder for the stator hookup and 10 ga wire all around.
  23. You may sell? Post some photos...
  24. Well finally some good news. I fitted a master cylinder off a CBR600F4i, and after a bit of bleeding it seems to have done the trick. Nice firm lever and doesn't pull into the bars anymore, 😎. Thanks to the guys who replied.
  25. I know looks are subjective, but to me the new screen looks better. It looks sleeker and more befitting a sporty bike. 🙂
  26. How rare are 5th gen Corbin saddlebags? How much could one ask for them?
  27. If I recall correctly, it took a fairly strong pull to get that fuel line disconnected. But it's been several years, so I hope I am remembering correctly.
  28. I hadn’t considered changing / upgrading the ground cable, I’ll look into that. When I replaced the RR five years ago I used the kit from Jack @ Roadstercycle, it’s a nice set up. As for tenders it’s a motorcycle small battery specific Tender, used them for years with no issues. The battery I took out was 5 years old and where I live 5 years is good considering the winter and not being ridden all the time.

      Juniper Pass

I took a day off from work and also from my bicycle training to take out the Veefalo one last time before the weather turns ugly, supposed to snow the rest of the week and possibly start sticking to the ground along the Colorado Front Range. I took a leisurely pace up hwy 105 toward Morrison and got reacquainted with the bike since its been over a month since I took any sort of twisties on it at all, hwy 105 is a scenic ride along the front range between Denver and Colorado Springs, its mostly easy fast sweepers and lite traffic so its a favorite road of mine when going north. Then I have to negotiate a bit of traffic near Highlands ranch and up hwy 470 into the mountains. I decided to take the Morrison Exit and try either Lookout Mountain or head up Golden Gate Canyon - this time it was Lookout Mountain, I was sort of making it up on the fly as I went along. Lookout Mountain is my old bicycling haunt from my days while I was working at Coors, its a killer ride and all uphill - I don't think I could do it today If I had to, not quite there yet! I saw a whole bunch of riders doing it though and wished I was in shape enough to be there doing it as well. 30 more lbs and I will be able to do it! On this day I would do it on the Veefalo instead.

I took a video from the gateway to the top at the Lookout Mountain State Park, getting past riders, the guy in the green jacket actually pretty much astounded me with how far he had gotten in the short time it took me to set up my camera, some 3 miles at least and up to the gateway from the turn off at hwy 6! Amazing I thought. I took the first two turns slow then got more comfortable as I went up further, till I was doing well, I made some gearing mistakes and took the tight 15mph marked hairpins in the wrong gear so I lugged it a bit on one or two. Still enjoyed it though and then got off at the top and hiked over a rock outcropping for an overview of the road for the pictures below.

From there I headed up interstate 70 to Idaho Springs for a beer at the Tommy-knockers brewery, I was the only customer in the joint - slow day for them so they treated me like a king! I got a nice tour of the place sort of impromptu, they made me a nice Pastrami sandwich on rye and with the brown ale it was fantastic. I must say the beer is much better there than in the bottles - its always good at the brewery. I am glad I stopped

I finished my lunch and since the road to Mount Evans is right there I headed up Squaw pass hoping to get in some nice pictures I wasn't expecting what I found, ICE IN ALL THE SHADY PARTS

      gallery_491_3463_419309.png

Icy patches on Squaw Pass definitely taking it easy on that road

There were some section where the ice covered the whole road for 300 yards or so I had to roll through it with my legs out to help keep the bike from sliding and falling over, I took it real slow. A Ford pickup was right behind me so I pulled over to let him pass but the guy was going slower then even I was so I pressed on - in places where I could see I just cut over to the oncoming lane and out of the ice where the sun was shining on the road more, but some places there was not alternative so I just had to go slow, good thing it wasn't slick but rather they tossed some gravel over the worst parts so I had some traction!

I did stop for pictures in all the best spots

Not that it matters and not that I expect anyone had noticed, but to those who sent me "where are you?" I would like to say I am back. Not only that I am officially returning to VFRD after nearly 2 months break but I have also ridden my Hawk last weekend and had FUN! Let me restate that; I had major fun riding! Something I have almost given up on.

Most of you have been riding your whole adult lives and riding is not only a hobby to you, it is part of you. But I started riding three years ago and even though I have encounter some setbacks, till this spring I loved riding with whole my heart. However, I have always considered riding as my hobby. As a hobby which suppose to make my life better, more fun and more rich. Life is too short to do something which we don't fully love.

My love of riding received a first major scar this spring: I lost a friend on the racetrack. He was a total stranger who offered me his help after I lowsided at CMP track last year. I still remember hearing his "Hi, my name is Todd, do you need help?" while I was duct-taping my roadrash from ripped jacket. He helped me straighten up the shifter and we kept in touch. The next time we saw each other was the day he died.

With 9 months delay, I can say that Todd's death shook me more than I have realized. It rooted fear in me which was fueled by seeing and hearing about others getting hurt over and over again. If I was to summarize this year - it would be one big accident report. I became sensitive to every broken bone, every roadrash, every lowside. And even though I did 10 track days this year, I became slower and slower and slower. Suddenly, I have acquired this 'grandma' riding style on the road, frozen with fear that behind every corner there is car standing in my lane, or major sand trap or deer staring at me ... I was crippled with fear not only for me about also for my fellow rider.

So, at the end of this year, I rode more and more by myself. I could not bear the feelings of responsibility for others on the road and my lines were crippled by my own fears. It all culminated this fall at WDGAH. In a freaky accident Love2rideh82crash was taken down by a truck crossing into our lane. I was done. I finished the weekend, locked the VFR into a garage and took a break.

Until the last weekend, I pretended that motorcycles do not exists. As a last instance after 2 months break from riding, I decided to go to CMP track to see if I can still have fun. I also felt like I should go for the memory of Todd. I went and I had fun! I had much more fun than I expected and the most fun on track I can remember. Suddenly the whole track connected into an uninterupted line of turns and I felt one with the bike riding around! I was giggling like a little girl in my helmet and keep on giggling ever since smile.gif

Granted I was not the fastest one and through out the weekend, I have never exceeded about 60% of my riding abilities, but I had no "oh-shit" nor 'blond' moments. I could have maybe go faster, I could have brake later for the turns and I could have lean further, but I am no Rossi nor Stoner. I decided to ride for fun and I had amazing blast riding well within my comfort zone.

I was proud of myself when, after bandaging Ricks arm, I was able to distance myself and go back to riding without the year-long fear. I did feel bad for him but the feelings were not crippling my lines nor my mind. And when a total stranger came to me and said "Hi, my name is Todd", my heart stopped for a minute though but I suddenly knew that my life went a full circle. I probably will never win MotoGP :idea3: , but I am back! :wheel:
