  2. I just recalled a guy on the FB VFR group trying an F3 rim cos he couldn't source a 5G rim, he claimed it fit. I ran an F3 for 9yrs as my commute bike, bounced thru thousands of UK potholes, no issue with any rim damage in nearly 40K, so ok on a lighter F3, may be not so on a lard arse 5G? I still have a pair of F3 front disc rotors if anyone needs dimensions, fuck knows why I kept em, just sat in back of my garage collecting cobwebs. Agreed, stick with whats known to work "Safely", last thing anyone needs is a front wheel exploding under em.
  3. I bought some used Micron pipes for my 6th gen, fitted them for a couple of rides, and then sold them again. Just too loud, but they ruined the low speed fuelling as well, the bike became really snatchy just off idle. Back to stock for me.
  4. I did put the front wheel on my static balance stand and it does need all those weights. I think wheel weights have gone the same way as shotgun pellets, no lead allowed here.
  5. I don't think it will locate the rotors properly. But I have never actually done it, and maybe the later rotor's "dish" will account for it. But also, F3 front rims are FRAGILE as shit. If it does work, the 94-97 VFR is a stronger wheel that is visually and dimensionally identical. But obviously a little heavier.
  6. CBR600F4 rims are 3 spoke. From memory a late 90's CBR600F3 1995-1998 front rim works, same 6 spoke pattern, just checked axle/bearing dimension on "Fowlers" parts site, F3 uses same bearing I/D @ 28mm, bearing O/D is 5mm smaller & 1mm wider, so you'd likely need F3 spacers, it's an option if you can't source a 5G/6G rim. AFAIK 5G/6G is the exact same rim, same bearing/seals dimensions, same discs, right side spacer is same part number, left side spacer is different part number, dunno if it actually is any wider or narrower? I would expect spacers to be a tad different as 6G uses a 2mm thicker stanchion, hence may be wider yoke centres?.

  8. Thanks Mello, I had to change my search question numerous times, but finally found a post addressing my question. After looking online for an 01-06 CBR rim, I ditched the idea immediately. I do not track this bike nor do I ride on super perfect roads. I occasionally end up on some of the worst paved roads in North America here in Northern New England and Canada. Rt 684 and rt 84 get honorable mentions though. Because my 2001 has 6 spokes, my dents luckily ended up near enough to a spoke that it did not completely fail. I know if one of the dents I have occurred dead center between 2 spokes on a 3 spoke wheel there is a chance I'm not writing this. Mistake on my part for not doing due diligence on what CBR F4i wheels actually look like. I am happy though I read your post about parts interchange for the 5th Gen and 6th Gen, it helps a lot. Terry's post came shortly after mine and I guessed I missed it.
  9. While I haven't personally verified, my understanding is an F4i front rim is a drop in. It's supposed to be lighter too. I think there have been posts on this forum showing that.
  10. I have been looking to replace my 5th Gens dented front rim, and dutifully posted in the classifieds looking for one. This morning over my cup of tea, a recent post here snapped into my head and I looked it up. So, although the part number for a 6th Gen front rim is radically different from the front on a 5th, Terry states they are interchangeable, which would be quite helpful in finding a replacement. So my next question is, is there a CBR600 front rim that would work also? A quick look at bearings sizes for an 01 CBR600 suggest not as the ID is 5mm wider and the thickness is 1 mm wider. The rotors carry a different number also. It may be as simple as installing the vfr bearing size as the OD 47mm is the same for both, and the rotors are a different color, but same dimensions, but I have no idea. Just trying to broaden my options at this point. Any thoughts or experience welcome and appreciated. PS: Changed my classified to include 5th and 6th Gen rims.
  11. I had a turn signal switch fail a few years ago ( simply cleaning it no longer did the trick), and it was NLA then. Ended up getting a used one from Duc2V4.

  13. My advice would be to hold yourself to the same standard you expected from the vendor and make every reasonable effort to return the funds. As far as your refurbish of your 1200 goes, you are doing a cracking nice job!

If you have the Delkevics with the massive outlets & short cans, it will be loud, only way to quieten it down really is go back to the original weigh a ton setup, you'll get little to no power increase with aftermarket cans unless you throw money at it for Dyno & re-map time. Loads of breakers selling via eBay (Essex Recycle) (Colchester Breakers) to name two I've used.
  16. I bought a 2010 bike last week with Delkevic cans (oval stainless silencers) Frankly they're too loud. I'm 60-plus now and not particularly interested in waking the neighbours! And I'm not trying to squeeze every tiny bit of power out the the thing either. I need to find a solution. I see there are other brands and even other models from Delkevic - but I have no way of telling what the differences are, sound-wise. I might call Delkevic directly and ask them what they can suggest but wondered if you guys had some suggestions

  18. Hey folks. I've got a 5th gen r/w/b, the OEM bags, and an OEM topcase. Also have the OEM rear rack for the topcase. I've always used/loved listmember Ken's (I think it was Ken...bought it over a decade ago) solution to the topcase by using his smaller platform as a mounting base. Worked great. Now, I have a 14 year old son coming online size-wise now that he now can wear my gear. We ride occasionally, but now he wants to ride to school drop-offs in the am and practices and now....I think I'm gonna need that topcase back there again for his backpack and additional sports gear, cleats etc I have the OEM rear rack, still in the box, but was hoping some of you have some pics of all of it together so I can see what I'm working with as a possibility. If you have saddlebags on too, I'd take that. Just trying to figure out if this is a way I want to go before getting it all out and mounted etc. I've got multiple seats/brands for the bike but the one he likes the most is the 2 up Corbin with the backrest. I know the backrest will have to go since we will use the front of the topcase to lean on now. Thanks to all.
  19. Got a bit of work on there Tez. Car spec steel weights look a right mess on a bike wheel, personally I'd remove em & test spin the wheel on a balancer, I expect you have one in ya garage like most of us do? you may find it needs no weight at all, last few tyres I've fitted needed no weight. Lead bike specific adhesive wheel weights are readily available over in the UK, I expect you can get in your neck of the woods, or is there some kinda ban on Lead use?

  21. Hey do you still need that? I have both the left side pannier and the black mounting bracket thing. OEM in fairly good shape maybe just some light scratches the kind you'd get from moving them around from time to time in the garage. Should buff out easy. I live in colorado so not sure what shipping would be. Make me an offer. I can send you some pictures if you'd like I'd have to dig them out of the garage first. Oh yeah there red off of my 04 vfr. Took them off when I first got the bike and never put them back on. Thanks peace
  22. eBay has lost the plot. I had a similar thing happen. Then another where the package arrived but eBay still showed it as pending delivery for months ! I blame it on AI being used by companies when its clearly not of sound mind. As I explained to someone the other day, AI is a toddler, it will be a teenager in a few years, then we will see if its friendly or stroppy !

  24. I also have an ethical dilemma with eBay now. I bought a set of used Helibars (for a decent price). The vendor was pretty slow to ship, and when the package eventually reached the eBay international hub, they found it to be empty, started a claim on my behalf and instructed the vendor to make a refund. Nothing happened for a few weeks, I sent a couple of "hurry up and refund me" messages, then out of the blue I get tracking notification and a delivery happens to my house, and the bars arrived on Tuesday. So I sent messages back to eBay customer help and the vendor saying "close the claim, item arrived" and also closed the claim myself. Then this morning, eBay emails me, I will get my full refund and lo, it shows as pending in my bank. Do I take the windfall and use it to buy a centrestand now?

  27. And so on we go. My attention has been on the back end and specifically the corrosion apparent. So I had the wheel off (putting a jack and block of wood under the shock link was a good spot to lift) and then pulled the calliper out and then the disc flange off the final drive; this took a bit of drifting to get free. The calliper was peachy inside, no sign of the corrosion that was on the end of some of the front pistons, and disassembled without a fight. The disc bolts were horrid and I had to hammer the hex bit in on a few, after an overnight penetrating oil soak they came out and were tossed, and the torx bolts on the ABS ring came next. Lots of Evaporust and a final wire brush got all the bits clean again, and the tone ring and the disc flange got a shot of etch primer and then some wheel silver. While we were there, I also swapped out the final drive oil, based on the crud that washed out, it was due. So I have gone from this... To this. Keen eyes will also spot the muffler has had the used main cover fitted (ex Japan) and I sanded and polished the few scuffs on the end cap so they are barely visible. I'll be moving on to repaint a few rusty fasteners and then the clutch cover, plus a bit of a touchup on the wheel weights (does anyone else miss lead weights which were compact and never rusted...?). If the weather permits, it will be time for a sneaky local test ride this weekend! Still plenty of work to be done, I'm really enjoying this project.

      I took a day off from work and also from my bicycle training to take out the Veefalo one last time before the weather turns ugly, supposed to snow the rest of the week and possibly start sticking to the ground along the Colorado Front Range. I took a leisurely pace up hwy 105 toward Morrison and got reacquainted with the bike since its been over a month since I took any sort of twisties on it at all, hwy 105 is a scenic ride along the front range between Denver and Colorado Springs, its mostly easy fast sweepers and lite traffic so its a favorite road of mine when going north. Then I have to negotiate a bit of traffic near Highlands ranch and up hwy 470 into the mountains. I decided to take the Morrison Exit and try either Lookout Mountain or head up Golden Gate Canyon - this time it was Lookout Mountain, I was sort of making it up on the fly as I went along. Lookout Mountain is my old bicycling haunt from my days while I was working at Coors, its a killer ride and all uphill - I don't think I could do it today If I had to, not quite there yet! I saw a whole bunch of riders doing it though and wished I was in shape enough to be there doing it as well. 30 more lbs and I will be able to do it! On this day I would do it on the Veefalo instead.

       

       

       

       

      I took a video from the gateway to the top at the Lookout Mountain State Park, getting past riders, the guy in the green jacket actually pretty much astounded me with how far he had gotten in the short time it took me to set up my camera, some 3 miles at least and up to the gateway from the turn off at hwy 6! Amazing I thought. I took the first two turns slow then got more comfortable as I went up further, till I was doing well, I made some gearing mistakes and took the tight 15mph marked hairpins in the wrong gear so I lugged it a bit on one or two. Still enjoyed it though and then got off at the top and hiked over a rock outcropping for an overview of the road for the pictures below.

      From there I headed up interstate 70 to Idaho Springs for a beer at the Tommy-knockers brewery, I was the only customer in the joint - slow day for them so they treated me like a king! I got a nice tour of the place sort of impromptu, they made me a nice Pastrami sandwich on rye and with the brown ale it was fantastic. I must say the beer is much better there than in the bottles - its always good at the brewery. I am glad I stopped

      I finished my lunch and since the road to Mount Evans is right there I headed up Squaw pass hoping to get in some nice pictures I wasn't expecting what I found, ICE IN ALL THE SHADY PARTS

      There were some section where the ice covered the whole road for 300 yards or so I had to roll through it with my legs out to help keep the bike from sliding and falling over, I took it real slow. A Ford pickup was right behind me so I pulled over to let him pass but the guy was going slower then even I was so I pressed on - in places where I could see I just cut over to the oncoming lane and out of the ice where the sun was shining on the road more, but some places there was not alternative so I just had to go slow, good thing it wasn't slick but rather they tossed some gravel over the worst parts so I had some traction!

      Not that it matters and not that I expect anyone had noticed, but to those who sent me "where are you?" I would like to say I am back. Not only that I am officially returning to VFRD after nearly 2 months break but I have also ridden my Hawk last weekend and had FUN! Let me restate that; I had major fun riding! Something I have almost given up on.

      Most of you have been riding your whole adult lives and riding is not only a hobby to you, it is part of you. But I started riding three years ago and even though I have encounter some setbacks, till this spring I loved riding with whole my heart. However, I have always considered riding as my hobby. As a hobby which suppose to make my life better, more fun and more rich. Life is too short to do something which we don't fully love.

      My love of riding received a first major scar this spring: I lost a friend on the racetrack. He was a total stranger who offered me his help after I lowsided at CMP track last year. I still remember hearing his "Hi, my name is Todd, do you need help?" while I was duct-taping my roadrash from ripped jacket. He helped me straighten up the shifter and we kept in touch. The next time we saw each other was the day he died.

      With 9 months delay, I can say that Todd's death shook me more than I have realized. It rooted fear in me which was fueled by seeing and hearing about others getting hurt over and over again. If I was to summarize this year - it would be one big accident report. I became sensitive to every broken bone, every roadrash, every lowside. And even though I did 10 track days this year, I became slower and slower and slower. Suddenly, I have acquired this 'grandma' riding style on the road, frozen with fear that behind every corner there is car standing in my lane, or major sand trap or deer staring at me ... I was crippled with fear not only for me about also for my fellow rider.

      So, at the end of this year, I rode more and more by myself. I could not bear the feelings of responsibility for others on the road and my lines were crippled by my own fears. It all culminated this fall at WDGAH. In a freaky accident Love2rideh82crash was taken down by a truck crossing into our lane. I was done. I finished the weekend, locked the VFR into a garage and took a break.

      Until the last weekend, I pretended that motorcycles do not exists. As a last instance after 2 months break from riding, I decided to go to CMP track to see if I can still have fun. I also felt like I should go for the memory of Todd. I went and I had fun! I had much more fun than I expected and the most fun on track I can remember. Suddenly the whole track connected into an uninterupted line of turns and I felt one with the bike riding around! I was giggling like a little girl in my helmet and keep on giggling ever since smile.gif

      Granted I was not the fastest one and through out the weekend, I have never exceeded about 60% of my riding abilities, but I had no "oh-shit" nor 'blond' moments. I could have maybe go faster, I could have brake later for the turns and I could have lean further, but I am no Rossi nor Stoner. I decided to ride for fun and I had amazing blast riding well within my comfort zone.

      I was proud of myself when, after bandaging Ricks arm, I was able to distance myself and go back to riding without the year-long fear. I did feel bad for him but the feelings were not crippling my lines nor my mind. And when a total stranger came to me and said "Hi, my name is Todd", my heart stopped for a minute though but I suddenly knew that my life went a full circle. I probably will never win MotoGP :idea3: , but I am back! :wheel:
