Whoa! Early adopter!!

Stroke. Piston diameter is the same, but the pistons are different. I've read that some club level racers were swapping RC26 pistons into their RC24s for a higher compression ratio.

I recall being a bit reluctant to move from the Big List to one of those newfangled "forums", but I must have registered at the first opportunity, because my profile says I joined August 20, 2002! Thanks, Miguel. Ciao, JZH

^ It's not like there are jets needing changed. These are fuel injected bikes. You can experiment with different cans and db killing baffles all day long. Sure you could buy a power commander and squeeze out a few more ponies with an exhaust of your choosing. But my opinion is if you want "gains" you get a Fireblade. I'm playing around with VFR exhaust cause I like the sound. Now if your Power commander reasons are for smoother fueling and throttle feel, ok I'm cool with that but. "iM geTting mOrE POweR" 🤣 buy a CBR.

Just curious: How did Honda lose the 50cc? Smaller pistons? Ciao, JZH

Yes, it was Reagan-era tariffs that spawned the 700cc bikes for the US market. For 86, you are far more likely to come across a 700 (RC26) than a 750, as the tariff was quite steep. 86 came in three flavors, R/W/B 750, R/W/B 700 and a Special Edition Pearl White 700. In 1987, all VFRs for the US were 700s, the VFR700F2. Available in Pearl Crescent White and a gorgeous Candy Wave Blue & Silver. The US did not get any of the heavily revised 1988/89 VFRs, but there were some left over 1987 on showroom floors in 1988. Sabres and Magnas got 700 versions as well. The Nighthawk was made in a 700cc version too for the US from 1984-86, the CB700SC. The V-Twin Shadows also got 700cc versions.

After getting the link, I was wrong about a re-pop, but right about the year. Sorry dude. DESCRIPTION: Model: VFR 750 RC24 Year: 1988

Wow, time flies! Joined in August of 05 and have been here almost daily. I've only missed about three SpringRides in that time. The friends that this forum has brought me are the ones who taught me how to ride a motorcycle rather than operate one. Thank you Slammer.

My understanding was that unless you change headers, or remove baffle in the slip-on (assuming it has one), re-tune isn't necessary...

fun to hear the comparison. changing cans really makes a difference! Be sure to re-tune after you settle on one!

I heard Reagan had a part to play in that to save Harley Davidson with the 750cc and up tariff! (I do know we got some 700cc versions but not sure how many came over here and what years after '86). Its too bad since the this gen is my favorite in terms of aesthetics and weight! I actually thought about maybe trying to import one here from Japan before finding this VFR. This is the full link to the cowl: https://www.ebay.com/itm/197846800422 I'm not sure if its rep or not but hope it works!

Ahh my bad I gotta work on my reading comprehension haha. *Awesome outcome!

It also looks like that might be a 88/89 version, that will not jive with your lowers. They changed the VFR quite a bit in 88 even though they look very similar. The US did not get the 88/89 version. Hopefully I'm wrong about what you bought. EDIT: I think I'm wrong. It just looks weird from a couple angles. Is that a "new" reproduction piece? I know there are some sellers from Poland that are doing that sort of thing.
-
Not sure if you got that it wasn't a "scenario". It was verbatim what happened, and where. The toggle switch was responsible for my situation being not "too bad". And why your bike has one. Cheers dude!!
-
Ill add the emulators to the list! Still need to inspect the forks to see if its leaking or not! Thanks for explaining the switches! I was wondering if the thermo switch was still active and switch on the fans but nice to know I can still do it manually! The CB550 and this bike are my only experience with carburetors so thank you for the tutorial! Otherwise I've only had exp with fuel injected! I can see now how beneficial the Fuel Cut Relay Switch can be! Being stranded on Hood Canal bridge must have sucked!! I was stranded one time on my old MV on I5 near Stanwood and luckily it was just a bad fuel level sensor and my old coworker from Boeing came by with some gas! I hope your situations weren't too bad haha! Also awesome scenario lol! 🍻🔥

This is why I continue to check in on VFRD every few days. 😎 And this is why my oldest bike was built in 2017.

Cool! Im waiting on what looks like a very good condition black cowl from Poland! Hoping it gets here in one piece and then ill start tinkering with how to fit in the mirrors! Thanks for the explanation!

I'd like to add my two cents worth about Metal Gear, specifically their rotors. I had purchased a "no brand" pair for the front of my recently restored VFR 750, but found from day one that there was a vibration thought the whole bike when stopping. People told me "Just bedding in, don't worry about it - give it a good hard work out on those new rotors and pads and it will come right". Well, it never did and 3 months with club ridding only I'd had enough, took the wheel off, removed the rotors and took a ride on my other bike across town to Metal Gear. (I live in Brisbane) They could not do enough for me, measured everything, checked for warp and pronounced the discs "crap" Chinese. The discs were supplied as "correct for my '88 VFR", yet they were 5mm thick / min thickness 4mm when the factory disc is 4.5 thick / minimum 3.5mm which may well have contributed to the vibration if there is insufficient clearance within the caliper sliding mechanism? Lateral thickness variations all around the circumference on both discs plus one with a warp in it and I was politely told to take them back to my supplier and request a refund (Which I did and have received said refund.) Metal Gear sold me their own brand of discs to suit the VFR 750 for a very reasonable price, little more than the previous purchase. I have fitted and tested these - what a difference - no vibration, just as it should be. Tomorrow I will get a good test ride up over Mt Glorious and back via Mt Mee, weather is looking great, should be just perfect now that the bike's brakes are as the Honda factory intended. From my experience, I would highly recommend Metal Gear and their service 🙂

I was late to this party also, having only joined in 2011. But I have been enjoying Honda's best engine configuration since my new VF500F in 1984, of the 28 bikes that I have owned, 16 have been V4s. I'm only up for an Ivory gift this year.

My VFRD 20th is coming up in a few months, next May. Although it also falls on my wedding anniversary, so as far as she knows, that's why the day is special.

What is this "Winter Storage" that you speak of? I just keep riding when the roads are dry. However all climate-bragging aside, Honda make the following recommendations (from the VFR1200 owners manual)

...and as Captain mentioned, adjust tire pressure by+3 psi or so

Yep, pretty much as already mentioned. Wash an wax Change oil Add fuel stabilizer (marine grade) Go for a good 30 minutes ride Fill the tank Clean and lube the chain Park on center stand with two pieces of wood under fork to keep front wheel off the ground Put battery on a battery tender Cover the bike with a nice cover (got mine, a custom made, from a forum member few years ago) And kiss it good night until April! 13

Upset universe? Oh, that was my 1800 with slash-cut drag pipes it came with from previous owner. And the closed throttle decel pops that sounded like shotgun blasts. Honda offset crank v-twins may run smooth, but sound like 💩. I purchased and installed a stock Honda system. I'm just messing about with the VFR, no reason to spend $$$ on exhaust systems. Slip-on cans can be swapped in minutes. I shelved the open exhaust tip same day as install. This shorty garbage can will come off soon enough and the Delkevic silencer will go back.

Oops. I do believe I know how to post YT videos or they wouldn't be on YT. However I may have screwed up copying the link to the playlist. Thanks for the helpful comment. -
I think that you might not know how to post videos. You're in your YT studio in these links. You need the link to the actual video.
