maybe i just keep riding it until it goes bang then put a new motor in it lol

i have seen 20k mile motors on ebay for around 4-500, mileage on my bike is around 29k, quite a low mileage bike for the head to go was my thought too, as i said i only have some basic mechanical knowledge i can go on a long trip 100 miles plus and it wont go much above 80 degrees C, running it in the garage it did get it into the 90's but still didnt hear the fan kick in. i did do an oil and filter change and then ran the bike for 15-20 minutes in the garage and the oil level had increased even after that. on initial start up there is a bit of steam that comes out the exhaust but stops when the bike is warm,

1992 750 fuel starvation
JZH replied to flyintwowheeler's topic in Third and Fourth Generation VFR's
Or just convert it to gravity feed. My 3rd gen was pump-less for a while and still seemed to run fine (although I didn't test it thoroughly). Ciao, JZH -
I don't know very much about NC21s, but here's my info page, FYI: https://www.vsource.org/VFR-RVF_files/Bvfr400zg-rj-mi.htm The corresponding Paint Codes are here: https://www.vsource.org/VFR-RVF_files/BHondaPaintCodes.htm Ciao, JZH

Having more or less retired my last Zumo a few years ago, I now use Android Auto exclusively, but I still kinda hate it. The Zumos always "had your back" with things like finding petrol en route, or a place to stay or eat, whereas Maps/Waze seem to me like a rather dumb imitation. Yes, I get that it's "12.6km from here", but is that in the direction I'm going?!? Loss of signal is also fun. I always seem to end up "offline" when crossing into or out of Belgium (as if anything could make driving through Belgium worse...) Full restart required. Sure, but that takes two hands on my phone... But I'm not buying another Zumo--even these annoyances just don't justify going back to what is, after all, a very limited, dedicated navigation system. I was never a detailed route planner, so I never pre-loaded routes anyway. Maybe that would make the difference for some? Ciao, JZH

Perfect! I see the same thing online now that I know what It’s called. Appreciate you

I'm thinking that wire is probably the air teperature sensor; the sensor screws into the nose fairing, projecting straight down.

First ride of the season and the side of the road.

Well both of those are interesting snippets Mohawk. My 5th gen certainly does like to slowly drain the battery when it sits unused, moreso than my other bikes. I had assumed that maybe my battery wasn't the best. -
Thank you Lorne and Terry. I’m 99.9% positive it’s the BAS thanks to your help. I tried bypassing the BAS yesterday based off some articles and videos I read as a temp option and the bike will still not fire. I’m not getting fuel which is frustrating. I’ll take any and all ideas. The bikes turns over very strong but I don’t hear the fuel pump turns on and it will not fire. Thanks.

Not really - you can download offline maps from Google. I just finished a two week tour of Ireland with only a Carpuride (my Garmin crapped the bed on the first day). It worked really well. I'm probably not going to replace my Garmin. You are limited by Maps as to how many waypoints you can have (10), so I use Myroute to create the routes before sending them to maps using Maproute. Maproute allows routes with more waypoints to be transferred to maps.

Yes, both heads can be stripped while in situ on all 800's. Fairly simple job, valve clearance check/adjust is a ball ache of a job on a 6th Gen. V-tech motors are plentiful & cheap, I'd be looking around the bike breakers on eBay for a low miler 2nd hand motor. You've not stated mileage on the motor, I assume since H/gaskets let go, it's a high miler, pointless throwing money at a high miler motor, £250 will bag you a used motor with around 30K on it. Piss easy job to change the motor.

Engine temps below 180ºF or 82ºC is an problem... it means that the moisture produced during combustion is not getting hot enough to evaporate out the pipe as steam... instead that moisture will migrate to the oil and produce a milky white contamination... Note normal by products of combustion is water... . Every gallon of gas creates roughly 8 pounds of water vapor... we all have witnessed water escaping out of tail pipes on cold mornings...

Mohawk replied to trmoyer's topic in Fifth Generation VFR's
5th gen already has oil feed to stator. One of the issues with 6th gen is they closed that oil feed & early 6th gens burned out stators. The 5th gen has the worlds most power hungry clock. If you leave the battery attached & not on a tender it will drain it. -
Water pump would be the only other place other than a head gasket.

im going to buy an endoscope so i can look in each cylinder, if it wasnt the head gasket what else should i be looking at, there is water getting into the oil, and she gets up to temp way quicker than she used too, she doesnt over heat even running it in the garage on the centre stand, before this happened she would be at 76/79 degrees C while riding, in the garage she does get a bit warmer than that, i dont think ive ever had her hot enough to get the fan to kick in

Congrats on your 6th gen, welcome from Ohio, and good luck getting the bike sorted!

Welcome! You'lll find a lot of great info through searching the forum and the service manuals here. The people aren't bad either. 🙂 (I have an aunt in Houston!)

Hey everyone, I’m new here and recently picked up a 2005 Red VFR800. I’m located in Houston and would love to meet some folks in my area. Currently the bike is not running, I believe it’s a wiring issue so I’m in the middle of troubleshooting and plan to make a new post or two for help. I also have a 2011 HD Street Glide and 2014 Yamaha Stryker. I used to have a 2006 CBR1000rr and always wanted a VFR. Looking forward to connecting with a few of you soon.

Leaky Head Gasket Check... You can visual inspect for a leaking head gasket by pulling the spark plugs and peering down each hole... if the top of the piston is black then no leak that cylinder... if the top of the piston is a bright shiny aluminum then leak detected... because a leaky head gasket allows coolant in and that produces steam under the heat of combustion... the net effect is a super clean piston dome and no nasty black...

The "Beast" is finally off The Devil 4-1 exhaust, nice but doesn't allow the suspension to be raised.... Next to choose what is going to replace it.....

Yes, only 1 mile. I bought this bike from an estate of an older gentleman who was a bike collector. This is the second VFR 800 I have owned and have decided to sell it rather than ride it. The pictures here speak for the bike. It is in absolutely brand new condition, never ridden. Please contact me directly with any questions and more details. ! am asking $10,500. for the bike. markbrunsell@gmail.com

The run off of wireless android auto, so they use your phone data and connection and mirror your phone. Without a phone with mobile data, it would be a paperweight.

Do these devices require their own sim card for Google Maps to operate or is Maps linked from your phone?

Oops. I do believe I know how to post YT videos or they wouldn't be on YT. However I may have screwed up copying the link to the playlist. Thanks for the helpful comment. -
I think that you might not know how to post videos. You're in your YT studio in these links. You need the link to the actual video.
