  1. Past hour
  2. Hello, I work at a shop that works on motorcycle wheels and someone messed up a customers wheel. I just needed help identifying a paint code so we could get it redone. On all the googling I've done so far, the closest thing I could come up with is "NHA64P" which is "Pearl Cosmic Black". Any help in the right direction in terms of color codes would be much appreciated. I've attached two images from google of the exact color of the wheels and the kind of bike it came off of.
  3. Slight update. I Took the air box and TB off to double check everything related to the MAP sensor and tubing and everything is fine unless theres a damaged connector. Which i highly doubt. I'll take the TB off once again to check injectors seating. I installed them with the 2 fuel rails bolted together in V configuration. They went in but not smoothly, maybe there's something pinched. Also, i did not cleaned the used FPR off ebay. Could help to spray it with carb cleaner and compressed air. Went around the block and the bike run like shit obviously. And the idle is all over the place But i'll get that sorted this week hopefully.
  4. Anyone have any input about the Shinko Sr 735 for the front? I know it's not exactly a sport bike tire, but was just curious if anybody else had tried one. Thx!
  5. I put my phone inside the tank and took some pictures
  6. Thank you so much for the video you shared, I find it very interesting and informative. I really like these types of videos where chemical reactions are explained in detail and how they react. He really did a lot of tests of all kinds and also the comparison with Evaporust. Given the low cost and easy availability of the products I think it is worth a try, thanks again very much for sharing this with me!
  7. Today
  8. Thank you very much for the time you spent explaining your work in detail. The tank had already been emptied by the previous owner and the inside is now completely dry, there is a lot of debris inside. The pump is not working, but I have already purchased another one, soon after cleaning the tank I will buy new gaskets. I did not know about the treatment with phosphoric acid, you never stop learning, thank you very much for this knowledge!
  9. OK, thank you for your replies & info!!! It seemed to me that if the added "size" of the 90 made things tight at the front of the swingarm, we could always add a link to our chain to compensate...
  10. SH847 from roadster, this is the way 100%
  11. Also, what condition were the slide pins and did you inspect and clean those? Couple of my bikes use the same type pins and the pads will bind and not move properly when those pins get corroded a bit. And will echo bmart for some pics if possible.
  12. Just a thought. I understand the EPFA pads, while stated as ok for road use, are primarily aimed at track riding so need heat to perform well. There's a number of riders on the GSXR forum that have not had great experience with them for road use - reports of wooden initial bite and noise. They returned to the normal HH compound and the problems went away You didn't mention whether the brakes are dragging which would indicate seal issues but then that would also be putting lots of heat in so I'm assuming that's not relevant.
  13. Take a few pics and post them to us.
  14. So i checked over the calipers when i changed the pads and everything was fine. No leaks and no dirt build up. I referenced the manual when i changed the pads and everything seems correct. I will take them off and give it another inspection.
  15. The OEM Nissan pistons are rubbish, they rust and then the coating comes off tearing the seals They could well be sticking on I replaced mine with stainless steel from Powerhouse https://powerhouse.uk/motorcycle-brake-caliper-seal-kits/
  16. Well that's not right by the sound of it. I'd take the calipers off and redo if I were you. Check: Pads aren't contaminated with grit. Pad springs are the right way round. Pads are the right way round! Discs are clean and contamination free. Photo of the procedure from the manual for the 2014 model attached.
  17. Bad grounds are a standard issue with the 5th gen. There is an orange common earth block taped into the loom below the seat left side; a small rectangular block that you can feel under all the tape. Not uncommon for these to get some corrosion and cause all sorts of weird behaviour. Regarding the relays (and sorry if this teaching you to suck eggs). A relay is a switch that is activated by current; you have a coil that will show continuity between the terminals always, and then two other terminals that will only show continuity when the coil is energised by pautting 12v through the coil terminals. You should be able to hear/feel a click when the coil is actuated.
  18. HI I replaced the front brake pads on my bike and now it sounds like someone is taking a angle grinder to my discs. I thought it was just the pads bedding in but it has been over a month now and i would have expected the noise to lessen by now. I replaced the pads with "EBC FRONT Brake Pads EPFA390HH", I have replaced many brake pads but this is the first time i have had this issue. Is there anything i could be missing?
  19. These crossed my mind but I really hope you are wrong. Really odd it happened 3 times in an hour then was ok for 500 miles. I'm also going to give the plug on the CDI a clean as this bike lay unused for 12 years before I got it
  20. I just discovered that someone ran a lead from the frame ground and spliced it into the fuel cut relay harness. Cheeky for sure. Should I order another relay, or start looking elsewhere?
  21. I have 3 separate fuel cut relays that don't pass the test in the service manual. None show continuity between the Br and Bl/W leads, but they are showing continuity between the Br/Bl and Bl/W. No change when pos and neg are added however. Should I really order a fourth? What are the odds of that?
  22. If no joy re: pump relay you may be blessed with dodgy pulse coils(under clutch cover). They can fail intermittently with heat & are tedious to diagnose given the heating factor. Also not any longer available from Honda so you’ll likely be looking around the breakers offerings. If I can help you with testing it’ll be my pleasure…
  23. Yes it’ll fit, that’s what I have in mine. No side clearance problems but I seem to recall the slightly larger diameter was fiddly to get in there with a new”shorter” chain that I had just installed, worked fine once in place. Also changes the rake/trail slightly so steering may feel twitchy & fall into corners a bit easier, bars will wanna shake if you let go of them, especially when decelerating. Could be an issue if you’re not aware…
  24. Have you looked for the Bridgestone BT45 or BT46? They are available in stock sizes and work great. I stayed with stock sizes on my recent '86, but back in the day used a 140/70 without clearance issues and even (foolishly) a 160/60. The 90 refers to % of width so where a 130/80 would be 104mm high, the 130/90 would be 117mm so your tyre will be 13mm higher. The only place that would matter is between the tyre and the cross-member at the front of the swingarm.
  25. Yesterday
  26. Is it clean and working properly mechanically (resistance check?
  27. My Dad and I are trying to find new shoes for our 1986 VFR700F.... Can't seem to find a matching pair. If a 130/90-18 will work on the back then we may have something to work with. Does anyone know if the "90" will work and clear the swingarm? TIA, we appreciate any input you guys have as always!
  28. It seems I’m not getting battery voltage to the switch, I’m getting 6v maximum. Any one else had the same issues?. The switch seems fine as I’m getting continuity when the lever is pressed. Guessing it’s a wiring fault😔😔😔

      Juniper Pass

I took a day off from work and also from my bicycle training to take out the Veefalo one last time before the weather turns ugly, supposed to snow the rest of the week and possibly start sticking to the ground along the Colorado Front Range. I took a leisurely pace up hwy 105 toward Morrison and got reacquainted with the bike since its been over a month since I took any sort of twisties on it at all, hwy 105 is a scenic ride along the front range between Denver and Colorado Springs, its mostly easy fast sweepers and lite traffic so its a favorite road of mine when going north. Then I have to negotiate a bit of traffic near Highlands ranch and up hwy 470 into the mountains. I decided to take the Morrison Exit and try either Lookout Mountain or head up Golden Gate Canyon - this time it was Lookout Mountain, I was sort of making it up on the fly as I went along. Lookout Mountain is my old bicycling haunt from my days while I was working at Coors, its a killer ride and all uphill - I don't think I could do it today If I had to, not quite there yet! I saw a whole bunch of riders doing it though and wished I was in shape enough to be there doing it as well. 30 more lbs and I will be able to do it! On this day I would do it on the Veefalo instead.

I took a video from the gateway to the top at the Lookout Mountain State Park, getting past riders, the guy in the green jacket actually pretty much astounded me with how far he had gotten in the short time it took me to set up my camera, some 3 miles at least and up to the gateway from the turn off at hwy 6! Amazing I thought. I took the first two turns slow then got more comfortable as I went up further, till I was doing well, I made some gearing mistakes and took the tight 15mph marked hairpins in the wrong gear so I lugged it a bit on one or two. Still enjoyed it though and then got off at the top and hiked over a rock outcropping for an overview of the road for the pictures below.

From there I headed up interstate 70 to Idaho Springs for a beer at the Tommy-knockers brewery, I was the only customer in the joint - slow day for them so they treated me like a king! I got a nice tour of the place sort of impromptu, they made me a nice Pastrami sandwich on rye and with the brown ale it was fantastic. I must say the beer is much better there than in the bottles - its always good at the brewery. I am glad I stopped

I finished my lunch and since the road to Mount Evans is right there I headed up Squaw pass hoping to get in some nice pictures I wasn't expecting what I found, ICE IN ALL THE SHADY PARTS

      gallery_491_3463_419309.png

Icy patches on Squaw Pass definitely taking it easy on that road

There were some section where the ice covered the whole road for 300 yards or so I had to roll through it with my legs out to help keep the bike from sliding and falling over, I took it real slow. A Ford pickup was right behind me so I pulled over to let him pass but the guy was going slower then even I was so I pressed on - in places where I could see I just cut over to the oncoming lane and out of the ice where the sun was shining on the road more, but some places there was not alternative so I just had to go slow, good thing it wasn't slick but rather they tossed some gravel over the worst parts so I had some traction!

I did stop for pictures in all the best spots

Not that it matters and not that I expect anyone had noticed, but to those who sent me "where are you?" I would like to say I am back. Not only that I am officially returning to VFRD after nearly 2 months break but I have also ridden my Hawk last weekend and had FUN! Let me restate that; I had major fun riding! Something I have almost given up on.

Most of you have been riding your whole adult lives and riding is not only a hobby to you, it is part of you. But I started riding three years ago and even though I have encounter some setbacks, till this spring I loved riding with whole my heart. However, I have always considered riding as my hobby. As a hobby which suppose to make my life better, more fun and more rich. Life is too short to do something which we don't fully love.

My love of riding received a first major scar this spring: I lost a friend on the racetrack. He was a total stranger who offered me his help after I lowsided at CMP track last year. I still remember hearing his "Hi, my name is Todd, do you need help?" while I was duct-taping my roadrash from ripped jacket. He helped me straighten up the shifter and we kept in touch. The next time we saw each other was the day he died.

With 9 months delay, I can say that Todd's death shook me more than I have realized. It rooted fear in me which was fueled by seeing and hearing about others getting hurt over and over again. If I was to summarize this year - it would be one big accident report. I became sensitive to every broken bone, every roadrash, every lowside. And even though I did 10 track days this year, I became slower and slower and slower. Suddenly, I have acquired this 'grandma' riding style on the road, frozen with fear that behind every corner there is car standing in my lane, or major sand trap or deer staring at me ... I was crippled with fear not only for me about also for my fellow rider.

So, at the end of this year, I rode more and more by myself. I could not bear the feelings of responsibility for others on the road and my lines were crippled by my own fears. It all culminated this fall at WDGAH. In a freaky accident Love2rideh82crash was taken down by a truck crossing into our lane. I was done. I finished the weekend, locked the VFR into a garage and took a break.

Until the last weekend, I pretended that motorcycles do not exists. As a last instance after 2 months break from riding, I decided to go to CMP track to see if I can still have fun. I also felt like I should go for the memory of Todd. I went and I had fun! I had much more fun than I expected and the most fun on track I can remember. Suddenly the whole track connected into an uninterupted line of turns and I felt one with the bike riding around! I was giggling like a little girl in my helmet and keep on giggling ever since smile.gif

Granted I was not the fastest one and through out the weekend, I have never exceeded about 60% of my riding abilities, but I had no "oh-shit" nor 'blond' moments. I could have maybe go faster, I could have brake later for the turns and I could have lean further, but I am no Rossi nor Stoner. I decided to ride for fun and I had amazing blast riding well within my comfort zone.

I was proud of myself when, after bandaging Ricks arm, I was able to distance myself and go back to riding without the year-long fear. I did feel bad for him but the feelings were not crippling my lines nor my mind. And when a total stranger came to me and said "Hi, my name is Todd", my heart stopped for a minute though but I suddenly knew that my life went a full circle. I probably will never win MotoGP :idea3: , but I am back! :wheel:
