VFR 800 fi (98) - hello everyone (Givi tank bag problem)
VeeEffArah replied to SPROCKET's topic in Official Welcome Forum
I used the BF03 attachment ring on my previous 2000. It's now on my 2007. You will need to get the outer ring that clips into the Givi bag also. -
8th Gen VFR800 Quickshifter - 08U70-MJM-D11

Crusty1, I'm not the OP but I'd love some more of that sweet information! Or even just a list of parts if you still have it. I'm trying to figure out a kit based on the 08U72-MKN-D51, which looks identical(?) to the OEM switch and yours. I found one on Reddit but it uses a Kawasaki lever instead of Honda's. Meh. Your lever looks notably longer (more forward) than the original. Is it? Edit: …hmm, or is it? I think I was mistaken, or the difference isn't as great as I thought. It's the switch that's positioned differently than in the OEM kit. -
Cool, I'll havea look at that tomorrow. I'll run it from cold and just watch the starter valves. In fairness, they might just need adjusting, the throttle body is from a different bike so that might be all it needs. Swapped rear caliper so now bleed the brakes again. While I was down there I started looking at the suspension - holy hell! The link plate on the shock has just disintegrated! I rang a breakers and I'm getting the dogbone mount, link plates and a rear shock for relatively small money so they will arrive next week. Given the condition of the plate and other components, I'm certain the shock will be in better condition than the one I have! So that's next weekends job once it arrives. I'll try get brakes sorted today/tomorrow and bodywork back on so then it's just the rear suspension and she'll be ready for a bit of a shakedown to see where it's at. I've pumped a fair bit of cash in already, but I'm still way under what a ratty VFR would cost me here and I'm now confident the engine is alright so happy to keep going with it.

I'll second this. Used one on the clutch perch for many years for an old Garmin 550 GPS. Also used the stem mount mentioned for a Valentine radar detector. Both worked well.

Glad to help the "helper" I thought you could copy it easily enough, but for your contributions to this and other forums I would gladly have done it for you 🙂 My original thoughts of trying to make these clips from scratch quickly changed when I saw your photo Thanks for your well wishes, we are working on a recovery plan, and keeping busy with bikes helps!

Hi, my name is Radek. I'm from Poland. A few days ago, I bought a Honda VFR 800 FI in excellent condition, ready for the season. I want to install a small Givi tank bag, but I'm having trouble finding a Givi BF mount (a ring attached to the fuel filler neck) that fits my bike. Does anyone have one of these mounts and could provide the part number? Thanks in advance. Best regards to everyone. Radek

took on a small project while i wait on parts: am i glad i did? yes. do i recommend it? not unless you're comfortable with very delicate and time-consuming operations. anyway, this was all spurred on by the screen suddenly refusing to power on so i figured as long as i was pulling the dash out i might as well repair the LCD; culprit turned out to be a broken trace. more substantial updates soon, hopefully.

Ooh, that view looks familiar so I jumped into Google Earth for a little spelunking. Yep, ridden past Goat Rock a number of times but never took the side road to that viewpoint. Back in '99 I was southbound to Monterey and stopped at a viewpoint above Russian Gulch - not much up the road from Goat Rock. Was hit by a bout of vertigo as I stepped off my VFR but managed to grab my water bottle for a drink. Spent about 15 mins sat on a log admiring the scene, waiting (hoping) to recover my equilibrium. This fantastic view is the reason I stopped.

4th generation replacement Cush drive rubbers
Captain 80s replied to veeeee4's topic in Third and Fourth Generation VFR's
for the US, RC36 only. 1990 - 1997 VFR750F. Models in other markets may, but that doesn't really help. And I doubt they do. -

Appreciate the help. Looks like Fortnine doesn't ship internationally. Do you know if the 4th generation shares the same Cush drive rubbers as any other generations? -

I was able to add them to a cart here. (Canada) https://fortnine.ca/en/honda-damper-final-driven-41241-mt4-000 Also available out of the UK https://www.ebay.com/itm/315447911662?_skw=TourMax+VFR750F&itmmeta=01KM60KX7WYK46F0A4N74VRDZ7&hash=item49722924ee:g:p40AAOSwi21mcVxu&itmprp=enc%3AAQALAAAA0GfYFPkwiKCW4ZNSs2u11xAm%2BNKYHxynuFgCNh6eLRcYMiCf2xADl%2FLWOV%2FgtrAr08pRJOe%2F7SKcZAJSu6FYyAAjtFRWzwejl2%2Bo0Y6zUrrWuDfW%2FVWMQmXeerHHEEJkXVIk2gmKk%2FoR4MWlJVan6Ckfz4sbxUsP2HJG8oRyNgiyg8Ycq4F8yTvpE4bpY294Pg6qC668twUTJ3Yi4iSmfqmbE3byUJVaIek%2BpXCySDnMEHYNYnoN1Ev%2BlX9SeHIbknVjkdd8wy0%2BRA4aEErxq3s%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR5rUz8ChZw I have used many TourMax parts and I have found they are quality reproductions. -

bottom Fairing clip/pins for '86 VFR 700 -750
Captain 80s replied to Skipper's topic in Earlier VFRs
Hey there! I am sorry to hear about your health issues lately. Be strong and recover. And actually just seeing your concept is plenty. It is a clever use of existing pins and I can reproduce them for myself to try. I appreciate it!! And I'm sure others do to, Cheers. -
Unless your frictions are worn just give everything a good cleaning, sand any glaze off, and install a fresh set of springs.

Sorry Captain, missed your second reply, and just found it now - nearly 3 months later! I looked at your photo, remembered I had something similar in my shed - some proprietary clips that looked vaguely similar A bit of persuasion in the vice with a hammer and punch, turned out a clip that seems to work. I did rivet the plates on to two separate pieces of ABS plastic sheet and it all seems good when I did a test fit Proof will be when the old girl is painted and reassembled - fingers crossed. I have been a bit sidelined lately with a skin cancer that is trying to kill me, but I just refuse to lay down As for making a couple of sets for you- if you like the concept, I will certainly make a couple for you But, no charge, you help everyone who comes along, seems to me and this would be small payment in return 🙂

^ For anyone trip planning, this is the preferred route to Deal's Gap. Cutting through Boyd's Creek and FootHills Pkwy. Since you get to keep your room key, there is no traditional check-out. Pack up your stuff on the bike, shut the door to the room and just leave. Rolling out by 8am will put you at the Dragon by mid-morning. Sevierville Buc-ee's is directly across the highway if you need to grab fuel or goodies before leaving. Sun will be up, traffic won't be too crazy and you can get some runs in before the crowd gets insane. Photographers usually start setting up around this time as well. Check the Tail of the Dragon's main website for calendar events. Showing up during "Miatas at the Gap" weekend for example will be more busy than the usual circus.

The shock came back from Traxxion. Nice getting that all hooked up with the swingarm and the gas tank mounted. Easy things to do after a long day. When taking the bike apart, wheels off in particular, it ended up with the center stand committed in the down position blocking access to the linkage bolt. Off came the spring and its bracket. It took a couple tries to get it back on but it happened.

I'm all stressed out about my new tire install.
Sirbike replied to VFR80025th's topic in Eighth Generation VFR's
I just used my no mar bar last night for the first time to mount a tire on a recently powder coated wheel for my ST1300. My harbor freight stand is set up not to scratch rims. The only materials touching my rim are the, what is it nylon?, fittings on the bar and leather in the clamps. Knowing what I know but putting my self in a position of not being able to change my own tires, I would ask if metal ever touches the rim. If I were the service guy not wanting to give an absolute guarantee of no problems, I would say I can’t guarantee the quality of the powder coated wheel but I can guarantee that I won’t scratch it. -
This is it: https://rammount.com/products/ram-b-309-1u. The pics and video should show you how it works.

Hi, thank you. Do you by chance have a picture of what you referring to "clutch bracket"? I was thinking there was no room on the handlebars but if there is some type of bracket to put in between the clamp on the handlebars for clutch or brake lever lever that is a good idea. Thanks again.

If you got the scratch, Rabaconda. Many MANY tires have been through mine. -

At the risk of turning this into a minor oil thread, I wholeheartedly agree with FromMaine and bmart. We're all in it for different reasons, so the scratched wheel issue is more important to some more than others. But in my mind there is a big difference between scratching and a safety issue. Yeah, I was pissed the last time the same thing happened to me, those stupid scratches are still there. But it is not a safety issue, and the bike looks pretty good for almost nine years old. If I have the skill, experience, tools, and honestly, the interest of Captain 80's, fromMaine, Cogswell, Terry, and pretty much all of the regular contributors here, of course I'll do it myself. But as you may have noticed, I'm more interested in the ride. (but OK, I do wish that techs charging $100 per hour could change a tire without damaging my wheels) 😉

Oops. I do believe I know how to post YT videos or they wouldn't be on YT. However I may have screwed up copying the link to the playlist. Thanks for the helpful comment. -
I think that you might not know how to post videos. You're in your YT studio in these links. You need the link to the actual video.
