Not really - you can download offline maps from Google. I just finished a two week tour of Ireland with only a Carpuride (my Garmin crapped the bed on the first day). It worked really well. I'm probably not going to replace my Garmin. You are limited by Maps as to how many waypoints you can have (10), so I use Myroute to create the routes before sending them to maps using Maproute. Maproute allows routes with more waypoints to be transferred to maps.

Yes, both heads can be stripped while in situ on all 800's. Fairly simple job, valve clearance check/adjust is a ball ache of a job on a 6th Gen. V-tech motors are plentiful & cheap, I'd be looking around the bike breakers on eBay for a low miler 2nd hand motor. You've not stated mileage on the motor, I assume since H/gaskets let go, it's a high miler, pointless throwing money at a high miler motor, £250 will bag you a used motor with around 30K on it. Piss easy job to change the motor.

Engine temps below 180ºF or 82ºC is an problem... it means that the moisture produced during combustion is not getting hot enough to evaporate out the pipe as steam... instead that moisture will migrate to the oil and produce a milky white contamination... Note normal by products of combustion is water... . Every gallon of gas creates roughly 8 pounds of water vapor... we all have witnessed water escaping out of tail pipes on cold mornings...

5th gen already has oil feed to stator. One of the issues with 6th gen is they closed that oil feed & early 6th gens burned out stators. The 5th gen has the worlds most power hungry clock. If you leave the battery attached & not on a tender it will drain it. -
Water pump would be the only other place other than a head gasket.

im going to buy an endoscope so i can look in each cylinder, if it wasnt the head gasket what else should i be looking at, there is water getting into the oil, and she gets up to temp way quicker than she used too, she doesnt over heat even running it in the garage on the centre stand, before this happened she would be at 76/79 degrees C while riding, in the garage she does get a bit warmer than that, i dont think ive ever had her hot enough to get the fan to kick in

Hey everyone, I’m new here and recently picked up a 2005 Red VFR800. I’m located in Houston and would love to meet some folks in my area. Currently the bike is not running, I believe it’s a wiring issue so I’m in the middle of troubleshooting and plan to make a new post or two for help. I also have a 2011 HD Street Glide and 2014 Yamaha Stryker. I used to have a 2006 CBR1000rr and always wanted a VFR. Looking forward to connecting with a few of you soon.

Leaky Head Gasket Check... You can visual inspect for a leaking head gasket by pulling the spark plugs and peering down each hole... if the top of the piston is black then no leak that cylinder... if the top of the piston is a bright shiny aluminum then leak detected... because a leaky head gasket allows coolant in and that produces steam under the heat of combustion... the net effect is a super clean piston dome and no nasty black...

The run off of wireless android auto, so they use your phone data and connection and mirror your phone. Without a phone with mobile data, it would be a paperweight.

haha, yea i only bought the bmw to keep me on the road as i dont have a car, but for where i live and the distance i live from my work its just too big and bulky for a 10 minute ride each way lol, i am looking at either a 2018 or 2019 vfr800f, will be a month or 2 before i have the cash in place for it, but the BMW 1150RT is going lol

It ships with just a positive and negative wire lead. I have a 12v outlet on my handlebars already, so i picked up a male 12v connector and wired that to the unit, so i can plug it in and unplug it whenever i want. Here is a link to what i used https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0D7HR736J?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1&th=1 And this is how it looks The unit requires 12v, so unless you have a usb step up adapter, you'll need to wire it to a switched 12v ignition source. There are definetly many ways to set it up, but this worked best for me

i noticed the bike reaching running temp a lot quicker than usual, checked the oil when i got home and saw the oil level had risen and had a milkness to it, apart from that the bike was running great, never overheated or ran low on coolant. i would expect it to rise a little but when cold it is between the min and max, when the bike gets up to temp the level is about an inch over the maximum mark, ill buy the kit and compression tester. doing an engine swap is most likely what i would do, although i am eyeing up a newer vfr800f as i dont like the bmw i bought to keep me on the road in the meantime

The level in the expansion tank will rise as the coolant heats up. If it rises shortly after starting the engine then that does sound like a head gasket. They make kits to test your coolant for exhaust gases. Do you see any bubbles coming into the expansion tank?
