  2. Time has come to thin out my parts bin as I am no longer working on 3rd gens. I don't want to toss them out so I offer them up to anyone who wants them. I prefer not to ship and can meet to drop off at the Indiana, Michigan, PA, KY along the Ohio state line. Or, you can trip and we'll find a spot. In the pictures there are two instrument clusters (no cracks on the backer), air lines, brakes, rear brake master cyls, very clean oil lines, molested and unmolested airbox covers, two cooling fans, both passenger and rider steps, a set of crusty carbs, plenum, OEM clip-ons, triple tree and top plate. The exhaust header appears solid and does not show any signs of rust through. There may be a stray VF500 carb in there too. I hope these bits can be used to keep your 3rd gens on the road. PM me if you have any questions.

  4. It sure sounds like this could be a carb issue. Was the bike running fine before you checked the valves & carb inspection? This could be a vacuum leak issue cause by them not being properly seated in their boots. You say you checked the valves & looked at the carbs. What does “looked at the carbs” mean, total tear down or bowl removal and then replaced Also, if you took the “tops” off the carbs, there’s a chance that one, or more, of the diaphragms wasn’t seated properly or had a torn/cracked diaphragm. When I had a torn/cracked diaphragm the symptoms were very close to yours, although at higher speeds it still did it, but not as irritating/dramatic. Do let us know what solves this.
  5. I wouldn’t care if it was easy to replace. But throttle bodies out is a pita.
  6. I believe Uncle Tony at UTG once said, you can do the air bypass on the throttle plates by splicing a fish tank bleeder valve between ported and manifold vacuum.
  7. You may not have a lot of luck diagnosing until you get the proper part. Chinese electronics are well known for...sucking.
  8. Thank you for advices. The noise continues after it's warmed up and i also don't have a mechanic background so the service or a friend of a friend will do the installation. While throttle body mentioned, when the engine is cold and I give a little throttle, it takes 4-5 seconds to get back to normal idle, it also continues to accelerate when on road too, for like, same, 4-5 seconds but it gets normal when engine is warmed up. Is it something to do with the throttle body? I read it when it gets dirty it could do this type of movement.
  9. Start with cam chain tensioners. This will most likely solve the problem. If at first the noise started when the bike is cold and went away once it's warmed up then it's 99% cam chain tensioners. If you leave it long enough it will develop into clattering all the time regardless of engine temp. I replaced mine last week. 2nd set at 90k km. It's not hard but it's a bit cramped because the throttle body is in the way. Follow the service manual, but don't remove the throttle body because it's a lot of work and it can be done without removing them. Be very careful when removing the CCT so you don't drop the metalic cap into the engine. The CCT has a rubber head over which a metalic cap sits.
  10. I need to get rid of my 1999 5th gen VFR. I believe the rear head is cracked. Might be a valve issue might be a piston issue, not sure. Stopped running and I found no compression in cylinder 2. Pulled the head and the intake valve was stuck due to being bent. Cooling fluid in the cylinder. It breaks my heart, but I can’t put any money into it. Everything else worked fine, so if you need a parts bike, this might be good. I’m near Houston Texas. I’m planning on just selling it off to a company for scrap, but I thought I’d give y’all a shot at it first. Is anyone interested, or should I just scrap it?
  11. The problem is fitting the stay to the upper cowl, the dash, and the dash surround, and getting them all to mesh together properly. At this point, I've removed the stay from the bike and am trying to fit those parts together off the bike. My stay doesn't seem to be bent badly (just the right side support strut), and I figured I'd be able to measure and bend it until it fit, but it's just not happening. I have now fit the cowl, dash, and surround together without the support, and they do fit together properly, so it does seem to be just the support. I found a brand new Honda part for about $300, but it's the older 64500-MBG-000, versus the updated 64500-MBG-D00, and I don't know the difference between the two parts.
  12. 1998 coolant temperature sensor issues. Help!!! My 98 Fi had an engine light and code was for no good engine water temperature sensor. Stripped the bike right down (stupid place for the sensor) replaced it with a new one from eBay. Put it all back together and now the engine temp on the screen is reading 92 deg C when cold. 😩 Do you think it’s just a crap copy sensor? Or could it be something else. Temp on screen does rise as engine warms. Just about 80 degrees too high.

  14. If you haven't already looked at the install guide, take a look to see if it will work with your mod'd tail. The brackets added to the fender add lateral stability, but I've no idea how much that matters. I think you could connect all the bits even without the fender, tho it might look odd. Again, it depends on what is left of your fender. The install guide is in Downloads
  15. Amazing looking country to ride in be the looks of it, Amazing what a few thousand km north can do, snowing here today and road salting the higher elevation roads, what fun.
  16. Hi Ziffer. Bad the bikes damaged, good you're ok. Usually see a fair few used front upper cowl stays on eBay. (Cheap) Worth a punt if yours is too badly mangled. If you're having alignment issues, I'd suggest working from the bottom up. Loosely fit side fairing panels mount the upper cowl stay in place, keep trying on upper cowl & make the required tweeks to get a good all round fit. Unless your upper cowl stay is really badly wrecked, I don't see the need to replace it. You can take measurements from the good side to the bar / yoke etc, bend the bad side to match, all trial & error, I've been successful using this method more than once. New cowl stays are crazy expensive for what is essentially a bit of bent tubing.
  17. Welcome to the forum! I would probably start with just replacing the cam tensioner on front and rear and perhaps the guides if the tensioner were rattling for a long time. However, there are more qualified sources to comment on this forum.
  18. It's my first time here, hello everyone. It's time for my cam chain replacement(at 85500km it started rattling for a while) and this is my first big cc motorcycle so I don't have any experience with this situation. I've been to a honda service last week and we choose some parts with a lady who sits in front of a computer(we couldn't ask the mechanics because service was too busy) and together we decide this parts should change but i still couldn't ask a mechanic what extras we should change or this is enough. So if anyone knows about these, my father is in tokyo for a week, he is going to look for the parts, any help is appreciated. Wish you a good day, nice rides. Parts are these: 14401mcw003 cam chain 2 pcs 14510mcw003 cam chain tensioner front 1 pcs 14515mcw003 tensioner rear 1 pcs 14520mcw013 lifler tensioner 2 pcs 14610mcw003 guide a 2 pcs

  20. OMG!!! 😲 Please, bury me in there... ❤️
  21. I crashed my 2000 VFR awhile back. In the crash, the upper cowl stay got bent. I now have a stock Honda upper cowl to replace my smashed one, but try as I may, I haven't been able to find a way to straighten the upper cowl stay well enough for all the plastics to fit together properly. I don't have a drawing with dimensions for it, and even if I did, the thing is made mostly out of curved steel tubing, making it difficult to find a way to measure it to get it just right. So, I started searching online to potentially buy one. I found a couple used ones (that could be bent, who knows?), and a few new ones. But I found that the original part, 64500-MBG-000, was superseded by 64500-MBG-D00. So... The questions... Does anyone have an upper cowl stay that they'd sell for a reasonable price that's NOT BENT? Anyone know the difference between the 64500-MBG-000 and the 64500-MBG-D00? Anyone know when the change from 64500-MBG-000 to 64500-MBG-D00 happened? Thanks for your help.
  22. A quick question regarding the panniers - both OEM and Givi: How do they mount up on the Gen 6's if you've got a fender eliminator or tail tidy? It appears from the photos that they affix to the OEM license plate / fender. Thanks! Barry
  23. What is this winter nap thing you are talking about? We are just in the midst of a lovely Spring here, and I actually got a bit hot today!

      Juniper Pass

I took a day off from work and also from my bicycle training to take out the Veefalo one last time before the weather turns ugly, supposed to snow the rest of the week and possibly start sticking to the ground along the Colorado Front Range. I took a leisurely pace up hwy 105 toward Morrison and got reacquainted with the bike since its been over a month since I took any sort of twisties on it at all, hwy 105 is a scenic ride along the front range between Denver and Colorado Springs, its mostly easy fast sweepers and lite traffic so its a favorite road of mine when going north. Then I have to negotiate a bit of traffic near Highlands ranch and up hwy 470 into the mountains. I decided to take the Morrison Exit and try either Lookout Mountain or head up Golden Gate Canyon - this time it was Lookout Mountain, I was sort of making it up on the fly as I went along. Lookout Mountain is my old bicycling haunt from my days while I was working at Coors, its a killer ride and all uphill - I don't think I could do it today If I had to, not quite there yet! I saw a whole bunch of riders doing it though and wished I was in shape enough to be there doing it as well. 30 more lbs and I will be able to do it! On this day I would do it on the Veefalo instead.

I took a video from the gateway to the top at the Lookout Mountain State Park, getting past riders, the guy in the green jacket actually pretty much astounded me with how far he had gotten in the short time it took me to set up my camera, some 3 miles at least and up to the gateway from the turn off at hwy 6! Amazing I thought. I took the first two turns slow then got more comfortable as I went up further, till I was doing well, I made some gearing mistakes and took the tight 15mph marked hairpins in the wrong gear so I lugged it a bit on one or two. Still enjoyed it though and then got off at the top and hiked over a rock outcropping for an overview of the road for the pictures below.

From there I headed up interstate 70 to Idaho Springs for a beer at the Tommy-knockers brewery, I was the only customer in the joint - slow day for them so they treated me like a king! I got a nice tour of the place sort of impromptu, they made me a nice Pastrami sandwich on rye and with the brown ale it was fantastic. I must say the beer is much better there than in the bottles - its always good at the brewery. I am glad I stopped

I finished my lunch and since the road to Mount Evans is right there I headed up Squaw pass hoping to get in some nice pictures I wasn't expecting what I found, ICE IN ALL THE SHADY PARTS

      gallery_491_3463_419309.png

Icy patches on Squaw Pass definitely taking it easy on that road

There were some section where the ice covered the whole road for 300 yards or so I had to roll through it with my legs out to help keep the bike from sliding and falling over, I took it real slow. A Ford pickup was right behind me so I pulled over to let him pass but the guy was going slower then even I was so I pressed on - in places where I could see I just cut over to the oncoming lane and out of the ice where the sun was shining on the road more, but some places there was not alternative so I just had to go slow, good thing it wasn't slick but rather they tossed some gravel over the worst parts so I had some traction!

I did stop for pictures in all the best spots

Not that it matters and not that I expect anyone had noticed, but to those who sent me "where are you?" I would like to say I am back. Not only that I am officially returning to VFRD after nearly 2 months break but I have also ridden my Hawk last weekend and had FUN! Let me restate that; I had major fun riding! Something I have almost given up on.

Most of you have been riding your whole adult lives and riding is not only a hobby to you, it is part of you. But I started riding three years ago and even though I have encounter some setbacks, till this spring I loved riding with whole my heart. However, I have always considered riding as my hobby. As a hobby which suppose to make my life better, more fun and more rich. Life is too short to do something which we don't fully love.

My love of riding received a first major scar this spring: I lost a friend on the racetrack. He was a total stranger who offered me his help after I lowsided at CMP track last year. I still remember hearing his "Hi, my name is Todd, do you need help?" while I was duct-taping my roadrash from ripped jacket. He helped me straighten up the shifter and we kept in touch. The next time we saw each other was the day he died.

With 9 months delay, I can say that Todd's death shook me more than I have realized. It rooted fear in me which was fueled by seeing and hearing about others getting hurt over and over again. If I was to summarize this year - it would be one big accident report. I became sensitive to every broken bone, every roadrash, every lowside. And even though I did 10 track days this year, I became slower and slower and slower. Suddenly, I have acquired this 'grandma' riding style on the road, frozen with fear that behind every corner there is car standing in my lane, or major sand trap or deer staring at me ... I was crippled with fear not only for me about also for my fellow rider.

So, at the end of this year, I rode more and more by myself. I could not bear the feelings of responsibility for others on the road and my lines were crippled by my own fears. It all culminated this fall at WDGAH. In a freaky accident Love2rideh82crash was taken down by a truck crossing into our lane. I was done. I finished the weekend, locked the VFR into a garage and took a break.

Until the last weekend, I pretended that motorcycles do not exists. As a last instance after 2 months break from riding, I decided to go to CMP track to see if I can still have fun. I also felt like I should go for the memory of Todd. I went and I had fun! I had much more fun than I expected and the most fun on track I can remember. Suddenly the whole track connected into an uninterupted line of turns and I felt one with the bike riding around! I was giggling like a little girl in my helmet and keep on giggling ever since smile.gif

Granted I was not the fastest one and through out the weekend, I have never exceeded about 60% of my riding abilities, but I had no "oh-shit" nor 'blond' moments. I could have maybe go faster, I could have brake later for the turns and I could have lean further, but I am no Rossi nor Stoner. I decided to ride for fun and I had amazing blast riding well within my comfort zone.

I was proud of myself when, after bandaging Ricks arm, I was able to distance myself and go back to riding without the year-long fear. I did feel bad for him but the feelings were not crippling my lines nor my mind. And when a total stranger came to me and said "Hi, my name is Todd", my heart stopped for a minute though but I suddenly knew that my life went a full circle. I probably will never win MotoGP :idea3: , but I am back! :wheel:
