  1. Past hour
  2. It is a brilliant afternoon and my VFR was looking a bit scruffy so I gave it a bath. Last month I noticed a bit of oil weeping from the front cam chain tensioner, but that will have to wait for another day. Question for you all, is it possible to replace the mirror glass on a VFR like mine?
  3. Yesterday
  4. Just buy the Delkevic. 😉
  5. You could try to restore the threads on both the bolt and delay valve using a tap and die and remount?
  6. Hi Moccamaster, If you are lucky you only need to remove some mechanical restriction to make it 'fully operational': (source https://www.motor-forum.nl/threads/vfr800-duitse-import-72kw.328681/) (source https://www.motor-forum.nl/threads/vfr800-duitse-import-72kw.328681/) If you are less lucky the limitation can be in the ECU. The extra weight of the catalytic converter is probably the only reason for reducing some capability in accelerating. 😁
  7. Looks like I'm getting down to the final items to finish up. That's great news. While I was changing the brake fluid I found this lovely bolt is screaming for help. I guess I will need to add that to an order and get a new one. I'm hoping the threads on the linked system isn't crossed.
  8. Fixed: So I made a hard brake line to bypass the abs circuit. Air still in the system . On inspection there are three points where the soft lines travel up and down and could trap air : behind the headstock, over the mudguard AND the splitter above the RHS caliper. I removed both calipers and hung them from the garage ceiling, the LHS higher as it’s at the end of the run, also pulling the soft lines so all travelled uphill only. A conventional brake bleed leaving the bleed nipple open (and sealed) allowed a lot of fluid to pass through with successive lever pumps and this released a few tiny bubbles. The bite point is now consistent .. If air is never introduced to the system then this problem won’t present itself but if a line or component is replaced then this issue will arise .. I’d bet that a few VFR800x have this problem and owners just make do with the non consistent bite point
  9. My pump was missing that rubber shield around the stainless sponge. Have put 20,000 kilometers on the bike since with no issues. Good idea to replace the fuel pump plate gasket. Only torque the 6 flange nuts to 12 Nm/ 106 inch lbs. Any tighter and it will leak. I tested it. It will leak.😁
  10. Hello, I have a 1999 Honda VFR800 that is the restricted 72 kW German version, equipped with a catalytic converter. From what I understand, the catalytic converter is one of the factors limiting the power output. Would there be any benefit to switching to a catless aftermarket exhaust system?
  11. Hi, https://www.uitlaatstore.nl/
  12. Thank you for those part numbers. I’ve now managed to order a set. My bike was just delivered and the last owner had forgotten to tighten the bolts so when it arrived there was only one left hanging on for dear life. I suppose I should be lucky that the seat cowl didn’t detach. After this success I wonder if anyone has the part number for the black plastic blanking plates that hide the cowl tab slots when the cowl is off🤞🤞🤞
  13. Hello, I am looking to buy an aftermarket headers for my 99 VFR because i have the cat version. Only ones i can find are from the US and the UK. I live in Finland so id have to pay custom fees and taxes if i order from these places. Does anyone have recommendations on where to buy one that is shipped from inside the EU?
  14. BC, Canada. I have 2 VFR's up for sale. 1998 red that is in awesome shape, 47k kms or just under 30k miles. $6k Cad or $4408 usd. Metzler tires with half life left. 2000 blue that just needs paint. Bought of guy whos girl dropped it. He put chinese plastics on that looked okay but I hated it and sold the plastics in picture. I have repaired the original plastics and is ready for prep and paint. Bike runs great with under 50k ms. $4k cad or $2940 usd
  15. did not rotate (or it already did a 360)
  16. That's nuts! I will have look at mine.
  17. I had LED bulbs in but had to remove them and revert to H7 normal as every oncoming car was flashing me. The reflectors on VFR are not designed for LED bulbs. Too much light scatter.
  18. Unfortunately thats all been covered and more. Spoke to Honda guy in Edinburgh and he said that 2002 and 2003 vfr 800's were particularly troublesome for Dealers electrics wise. He mentioned harnesses made in eastern european country and they cut too many corners making them. One of my buddies has a 2007 vtec and he can put all his high load stuff on and it still charges at full whack. Guess its a rogue one I have.
  19. Looking good! I recently set up my 5-year old Prusa (as in, still in the box since 2021) and have been drawing and printing all kinds of stuff for the last few weeks. The absolute utility of a 3d printer was demonstrated when I lost a tiny plastic spacer for a bathroom shelf my wife wanted me to install. Took some measurements, spun up Fusion and had a pretty good PETG duplicate in a couple of hours: Just a simple little thing, but it saved me so much time and headache to be able to replicate the missing part quickly and effectively! Ciao, JZH
  20. I'd start looking for the charge problem on high beam by checking the earth leakage current while switching between high and low beam to see if there's any change. Then check the continuity and resistance of the high beam cabling. There might be a bit of cable chafing going on
  21. Didn't we see a thread on this forum where the entire hub had come off during a ride? Five years ago or so. That is the only one I'm aware of, however, so it's probably not a huge issue! Ciao, JZH
  22. I don't believe the Honda designers designed a motorcycle that would knowingly cause such issues so I suspect your issue lies elsewhere. You could always replace the incandescent H7's with LEDs which would significantly lower the draw but that wouldn't cure the issue, just the symptoms.
  23. Thanks for the info, SH**, I need to ride less in the dark with high beam on then. Or perhaps suffer a degrading voltage battery. This model 2003 vtec has had every concievable mod done to the electrics, and I mean everything. both harness multi earth connectors cut out and wiring soldered, yellow and blue plugs deleted, earths on frame and engine doubled up, new HONDA stator and FH020 R/R. and still it refuses to charge at the correct rate with all the electrics on. Normal riding, i.e. NO heated grips, dip mbeam nad usb outlet for sat nav and it bangs in 14.4/5 volts all day long. but put high beam on ?? My old FV VFR charges constant with EVERYTHING on at 14.5 volts. (FH020 mod too). Last VTEC I will buy that's for sure.
  24. Well one year ago I bought the 1997 Transalp 600 At moment ongoing a cosmic upgrade, but the big thing is I have not bought a motorcycle since! Motorcycles has come as gone quit fast the last 10 years, maybe it's time to slow down and focus on what you got. But for me it's actually a bit time for a celebration. I sure not need new project's, and looking the FZ750 might not stay after all even I first did fear so. 🙂
  25. I better start checking mine as well! Given how many ugga-duggas are required for the rattle gun, it is a surprise that these things can work loose on their own especially when staked.

      Juniper Pass

I took a day off from work and also from my bicycle training to take out the Veefalo one last time before the weather turns ugly, supposed to snow the rest of the week and possibly start sticking to the ground along the Colorado Front Range. I took a leisurely pace up hwy 105 toward Morrison and got reacquainted with the bike since its been over a month since I took any sort of twisties on it at all, hwy 105 is a scenic ride along the front range between Denver and Colorado Springs, its mostly easy fast sweepers and lite traffic so its a favorite road of mine when going north. Then I have to negotiate a bit of traffic near Highlands ranch and up hwy 470 into the mountains. I decided to take the Morrison Exit and try either Lookout Mountain or head up Golden Gate Canyon - this time it was Lookout Mountain, I was sort of making it up on the fly as I went along. Lookout Mountain is my old bicycling haunt from my days while I was working at Coors, its a killer ride and all uphill - I don't think I could do it today If I had to, not quite there yet! I saw a whole bunch of riders doing it though and wished I was in shape enough to be there doing it as well. 30 more lbs and I will be able to do it! On this day I would do it on the Veefalo instead.

I took a video from the gateway to the top at the Lookout Mountain State Park, getting past riders, the guy in the green jacket actually pretty much astounded me with how far he had gotten in the short time it took me to set up my camera, some 3 miles at least and up to the gateway from the turn off at hwy 6! Amazing I thought. I took the first two turns slow then got more comfortable as I went up further, till I was doing well, I made some gearing mistakes and took the tight 15mph marked hairpins in the wrong gear so I lugged it a bit on one or two. Still enjoyed it though and then got off at the top and hiked over a rock outcropping for an overview of the road for the pictures below.

From there I headed up interstate 70 to Idaho Springs for a beer at the Tommy-knockers brewery, I was the only customer in the joint - slow day for them so they treated me like a king! I got a nice tour of the place sort of impromptu, they made me a nice Pastrami sandwich on rye and with the brown ale it was fantastic. I must say the beer is much better there than in the bottles - its always good at the brewery. I am glad I stopped

I finished my lunch and since the road to Mount Evans is right there I headed up Squaw pass hoping to get in some nice pictures I wasn't expecting what I found, ICE IN ALL THE SHADY PARTS

      gallery_491_3463_419309.png

Icy patches on Squaw Pass definitely taking it easy on that road

There were some section where the ice covered the whole road for 300 yards or so I had to roll through it with my legs out to help keep the bike from sliding and falling over, I took it real slow. A Ford pickup was right behind me so I pulled over to let him pass but the guy was going slower then even I was so I pressed on - in places where I could see I just cut over to the oncoming lane and out of the ice where the sun was shining on the road more, but some places there was not alternative so I just had to go slow, good thing it wasn't slick but rather they tossed some gravel over the worst parts so I had some traction!

I did stop for pictures in all the best spots

Not that it matters and not that I expect anyone had noticed, but to those who sent me "where are you?" I would like to say I am back. Not only that I am officially returning to VFRD after nearly 2 months break but I have also ridden my Hawk last weekend and had FUN! Let me restate that; I had major fun riding! Something I have almost given up on.

Most of you have been riding your whole adult lives and riding is not only a hobby to you, it is part of you. But I started riding three years ago and even though I have encounter some setbacks, till this spring I loved riding with whole my heart. However, I have always considered riding as my hobby. As a hobby which suppose to make my life better, more fun and more rich. Life is too short to do something which we don't fully love.

My love of riding received a first major scar this spring: I lost a friend on the racetrack. He was a total stranger who offered me his help after I lowsided at CMP track last year. I still remember hearing his "Hi, my name is Todd, do you need help?" while I was duct-taping my roadrash from ripped jacket. He helped me straighten up the shifter and we kept in touch. The next time we saw each other was the day he died.

With 9 months delay, I can say that Todd's death shook me more than I have realized. It rooted fear in me which was fueled by seeing and hearing about others getting hurt over and over again. If I was to summarize this year - it would be one big accident report. I became sensitive to every broken bone, every roadrash, every lowside. And even though I did 10 track days this year, I became slower and slower and slower. Suddenly, I have acquired this 'grandma' riding style on the road, frozen with fear that behind every corner there is car standing in my lane, or major sand trap or deer staring at me ... I was crippled with fear not only for me about also for my fellow rider.

So, at the end of this year, I rode more and more by myself. I could not bear the feelings of responsibility for others on the road and my lines were crippled by my own fears. It all culminated this fall at WDGAH. In a freaky accident Love2rideh82crash was taken down by a truck crossing into our lane. I was done. I finished the weekend, locked the VFR into a garage and took a break.

Until the last weekend, I pretended that motorcycles do not exists. As a last instance after 2 months break from riding, I decided to go to CMP track to see if I can still have fun. I also felt like I should go for the memory of Todd. I went and I had fun! I had much more fun than I expected and the most fun on track I can remember. Suddenly the whole track connected into an uninterupted line of turns and I felt one with the bike riding around! I was giggling like a little girl in my helmet and keep on giggling ever since smile.gif

Granted I was not the fastest one and through out the weekend, I have never exceeded about 60% of my riding abilities, but I had no "oh-shit" nor 'blond' moments. I could have maybe go faster, I could have brake later for the turns and I could have lean further, but I am no Rossi nor Stoner. I decided to ride for fun and I had amazing blast riding well within my comfort zone.

I was proud of myself when, after bandaging Ricks arm, I was able to distance myself and go back to riding without the year-long fear. I did feel bad for him but the feelings were not crippling my lines nor my mind. And when a total stranger came to me and said "Hi, my name is Todd", my heart stopped for a minute though but I suddenly knew that my life went a full circle. I probably will never win MotoGP :idea3: , but I am back! :wheel:
