Well if all the fuses are OK and the battery has voltage, maybe the issue is with one of the relays. When I got my VFR1200 do-up, I powered it up briefly from an external battery and jumper cables and also heard a pop followed by deadness. When I finally installed a new battery, everything worked fine. I am not sure whether the action of connecting and disconnecting the battery caused something to reset, but everytime the battery is reattached there is some activity, mainly visible from the sweep of the tacho needle.

VFR pilgrimage as season opens up - Ron

The photo is of the Elf Honda 500 GP bike; they had all sorts of experimental chassis developed by ex F1 engineer Andre de Cortanze, starting with the 1000cc IL4 endurance bikes and finishing with the V3 and V4 NS and NSR 500 engines. But this is definitely where the Elf single-sides swingarm originates which is why some VFR's have the ELF sticker there. The photo below is from the Honda museum at Motegi, Japan. -
👍For the white wheels on a 5th Gen. 👍Another if you got the rear to look that good without removing the tire.

Well, that was a memorable day! I to would be curious if he de- linked his brakes. Thought I would hate mine on my 5th Gen, but turned out to be a non issue. Rear brake is not working well, so I'm servicing all the calipers shortly. Will see how I feel after bleeding the full system.😁 -

Seeing the title "VFR Pilgrimage", I thought this was going to be about making the trip to Barber to contemplate at the altar of 0 mile Interceptors. -
a quick chat with the almighty @Mohawk helped me get squared away with the electric pump wired it up got tires painted the wheels (with more plastidip, like the fairings this is just temporary and will get redone properly once i get an actual garage) plumbed brakes (cbr600 rear master) and then all of a sudden...that was kinda it.

There probably isn't any need for a MAXI fuse unless your particular circuit needs it. I do, for my accessories, which all go through one master circuit, but I'm also using 10mm2 thin-wall cable (70A rated) to match. I believe you can get ATM fuses up to 30A, and ATO fuses up to 40A (but you do need to use corresponding fuse holders/cable sizes). Ciao, JZH

I haven't experienced these symptoms, but I seem to recall that the orange GND junction block often gets a shout out in these situations. It's only sealed with leccy tape, so the terminals can corrode, leading to various weird symptoms. Soldering them or wire-splicing them together and sealing in adhesive-lined heat shrink is the usual prescription. I believe the OEM connector does not combine the solid green and the green/black wires together, so I kept them separate when I crimped them together on my blue bike. However, I soldered them all together on my yellow bike, and it seemed to run okay! I used brass butt splice terminals (here half-crimped) because that's what all the cool kids were doing... (The cool kids being the racing wiring gurus.) All spliced together and sealed up, and later covered with electrical tape. Good preventative maintenance, even if it doesn't resolve your issue! Ciao, JZH

Great post. I have seem both father and son race in person, both Haslams were skilled racers and fun to watch. When I get home I’ll try to find a photo to post. edit: Rocket Ron Haslam finished 7th on the Elf Honda at the 1988 Laguna Seca gp. Note the front suspension. I got him to wave at me with a camera in my hand. -

You’re 100% right. I’ll correct the earlier post. Thanks for spotting! At one point I was so nervous I called Ron by his don’s name. And he was so gracious he didn’t even bat an eye, until I apologised and we laughed about it. Really good down-to-earth gentlemen! -
Used Akrapovic Titanium/Carbon Slip-on exhaust muffler system for 2010+ VFR1200F bikes. This system is Titanium with carbon fiber end cap. Includes clamp and new exhaust gasket OEM Honda, as shown in pictures. There are signs of use, marks, scuffs, smudges etc on the muffler mid pipe and on the muffler itself. This is used so do not expect the condition to be absolutely perfect. Unknown mileage used, as this came with a motorcycle I purchased. I don’t know the back story or any history of this. Could use a good cleanup/scrub but after a quick wipe down it looks as shown in pics. I did actuate the exhaust valve, and it works as it should with no binding or issues. The cable for the valve actuator appears to have been shortened but includes the cable ferrule. You might need to get a new longer cable at a local shop or order online from Akrapovic. The muffler looks fully intact with good packing inside. The carbon end cap has some scuffing and chipping around the back side where it meets the muffler body but is solid and not loose. The decal is in excellent shape. All rivets are intact and solid. This is 100% a genuine muffler and exhaust system, not a temu imitation. I would say this is in good usable condition, for a Honda VFR1200F or could be used for your custom muffler project as a cheap way to get an Akrapovic system. What you see is what you get. Includes the muffler, mid pipe, muffler clamp, and carbon fiber mounting band. Also includes new OEM Honda muffler gasket. Located in Central IL for pickup, or buyer pays for shipping.

Sounds like you had a good time, I think you mean Leon, not Liam -
So after 3 months of solid rain and dreary misery, the UK’s weather finally opened up a few days ago. Neighbour sent me this invite from Modern Classics where “Rocket” Ron Haslam and his son “Pocket Rocket” Leon Haslam would be meeting people at Modern Classics in Pinxton, Nottingham. My Donkey VFR still had fuel in the tank from last November and hasn’t seen a wet rag for nearly a year, but it was too good an opportunity to miss so I headed out, hoping to bump into Rob and Leon. Donkey parked outside Moden Classics. Good diner here, by the way. Weather still wasn’t ideal so there were few people there and I got to meet these two heroes! Rocket Ron Haslam Pocket Rocket Leon Haslam That’s me in the beard, spectacles, blue eyes and yellow teeth… We had a great conversation about the Haslam race school that closed recently (real shame) and how Ron would take people for one-lap pillion rides around Donnington until they vomited 🤣🤣🤣! For those who don’t know, in 1986 Ron famously rode a completely stock VFR750 in the Transatlantic Trophy against some of the most talented riders ever to grace motorcycle racing (Merkel, Schwantz, Parish, McElnea, Huewen, Marshall, Burnett, a young Kenny Irons, and Iddon). Ron’s VFR was a demonstrator hurriedly borrowed from Granby Motors, and the only modification was removing the sidestand. It still had all the lights, indicators, mirrors, pillion pegs etc. Despite everyone else running fully-kitted out race bikes, Ron managed to come in 3rd that weekend. The Americans Merkel and Schwantz did a clean 1-2 that year. To be fair, Ron was assisted by the rain which alleviated some of the power difference between his stock VFR750 and the race machines, which would pull away cleanly in the straights. But his brakes and handling were certainly up to par. I’d like to think his talent/skill was the great leveller - he truly is a remarkable rider. You can read more about that year’s Transatlantic Trophy here: https://www.classicracer.com/haslam-stocker-vfr/ Needless to say, VFR sales were really strong after that! Ron famously rode VFRs at his race school (several generations), often instructing and taking punters on his famous pillion laps on one. I forgot to ask if he ever delinked the brakes and am kicking myself for the oversight… After meeting my VFR heroes, I thought it fitting to pass by Granby Motors where that famous VFR750 was borrowed. The motorcycle dealer unfortunately closed down a couple years ago and is now an air supply business (compressors and such). But to me, that’s holy ground and I thought I’d stop by to pay homage. Donkey parked outside what used to be Granby Motors, where her famous grandad once came from. Please forgive the poor photos - darkness and poor weather didn’t help. If anyone knows whether Ron delinked his 5th Gen or 6th Gen VFRs, please chime in!

25 year old wiring that was barely adequate when new. This is exactly why I installed headlight/R/R wiring kits that come direct from the battery. Taking those high current loads off the wimpy stock harness, and needless connectors works wonders.

I had a similar cutout with flickery Fi light a few years ago. Main white fuse holder clipped to battery tray plastic area was burnt and crusty at wire terminal connections inside. Fuse itself wasn't blown, just bad wiring connections below it. I clipped out and replaced with rubber inline fuse holder from auto parts store. I'm not sure what this recent stator work entailed, but if AC plug area goes nuclear it could take nearby rectifier DC plug with it. Don't ask me how I know.🙄 Pull tail plastic and double check connections.

Since you have been fiddling with the electronics, I would at least do a measurement of the voltage at idle and higher rpm (> 4000), also because it is very low effort. The sound of the fuel pump should be consistently 'energetic', so might be a good hint. You could attempt to 'readout' the FI code if it is stored, see here.

I was out for a ride the other day and the engine cut out as i was coming yo a stop sign. The electrics stayed on (the clock did not reset). I noticed the FI light was on. (Which admittedly has been flickering for the occasional rides I have had over the past couple of months.. only reminded when im out and about). Fired her up and went on about my business. As I got closer to home she started having more issues... power delivery coming and going, minor spitting from the exhaust and cutting out again and again. I was close to home but was worried about the bike cutting out when taking corners so I was careful. She got real upset at this stage and when I was around the corner she refused to turn on. Took a few turn overs and a short break before she decided to fire up. Decided to let her roll the last 30meters because it was unsafe. Something else to point out is after the first cut out I noticed she wasnt as whiny as she usually is when riding 🤷♂️ Recent work was done to the R/R, stator and electricals. I suspect it might have something to do with the fuel pump. I hear it when I turn the key but it's not as consistently 'energetic'. What are your thoughts?

Update for KM1 torture testing. The same size KM1 I run on the back of a VFR800 is hanging in there with the weight and torque of a 'Wing. The lightest 1800 'Wing, but still a wing. 7,000 something miles and still going. I'm fairly confident it won't hit the VFR's 14K, but I feel confident enough at this point to install one of for a cross country ride on the GL.

Double checking - 4th Gen rear axle assembly
veeeee4 replied to Khibbs's topic in Third and Fourth Generation VFR's
I want to resurrect this thread and say thank you. I am rebuilding the swing arm on a 4th gen and ran into the same issue. I have the Honda Service manual and it shows on page 13-4 a Dust seal for the Bearing Holder but does not mention the distance collar and no mention on 13-3. Partzilla and CMSL show the distance collar but they don't show a dust shield. Thank you again. I think that you might not know how to post videos. You're in your YT studio in these links. You need the link to the actual video.
