I joined the forum just to say how useful this guide, and the linked YouTube video were. Coded 2 x new keys without issue: $10 - Key blanks from AliExpress $25 - 5 x ID46 transponders from AliExpress (dunno what I'll do with the other 3) $10 - Wire, alligator clips, and resistor from Jaycar I didn't have a spare connector for the CPS, and couldn't find one so I just ended up popping the pins out of the connector with a small screwdriver (bit fiddly) and attaching the alligator clips directly to them, worked a treat.

I'm assuming you have a Canadian spec 85 VF750F. We got the 750 in 1983, then the 700 in 84-85. 1. Yes, you can disassemble and repair a first Gen ignition switch. Did it on my 85 VF1100S, my brothers 83 VF1100C, and a friends VF1100C in a Motel 6 in upstate NY with limited tools at around 9pm. Hardest part is getting at the 10mm bolts that hold it in. I'll post a link I found that gives the basics. I know you had a go at yours, but have a look. There are others out there also. Ignore the VF1100 header, your ignition is the same. VF1100C Ignition switch removal, service, and replacement. - V4MuscleBike.com 2. Does the bike have an aftermarket exhaust? If so, check your jets. Understood you went through your carbs, but did you verify the correct jets were installed? Bought my 83 VF750F as a non runner. It has a full Kerker exhaust. Going through the bike I finally dropped one of the float bowls to have a look. Found the jets were clogged, and to my chagrin, the forward jets were 2 sizes to large, and the rears 1 size to small. You should have 128's front and rear. It also had a K+N filter, which is fine, if you have the proper jets. Installed the correct jets, kept the exhaust (Had to, could not find a complete Honda unit) and rode it just shy of 4K miles to NC and all the good roads with out any issues. Also found incorrect jets on one of my VF1000R's with F1 cans and 2, 4" (100mm) holes drilled into the airbox top and on my 87 vfr700. Aftermarket exhausts and re-jetting the carbs were a thing in the 80's-90's. Also have a look at your fuel hose to your carbs from the pump, if it is to soft or to long it can constrict as fuel demand increases. That was another problem I encountered on my VFR700. Hope there is something here that helps or at least eliminates possible causes.

Where are you? Those fenders are not that hard to find for a reasonable price.

Lots of Honda clutches seem to prefer semisynthetic over synthetic for smoother shifting. Can you remove the catalytic converter legally there? That (and a tune/flash) would help with the temperature issue also.

Thank you so much for that info! Unfortunately ours is pretty messed up and I think its going to be a challenge Lol... But It's beginning to look like we don't have much choice but to attempt to repair it. Really appreciate ya sharing your experience dealing with the plastics! When we attempt the repairs I'll do some before and after photos for the thread!

Thanks a lot everyone for the input, right now here in dubai temperatures are running between 45-50 degrees during daytime and goes down to 31’s in the night. So i think its better to go with 20W-50, do you guys suggest synthetic or semisynthetic engine oil??

Thats a tidy looking VFR, congratulations. Good call on the rubber. Bought my 2001 late last summer, had not been on the road for 18 years. Had 19 year old Michelins with about 200 miles on them. Sad to have to bin them, but there really is no other choice. Bet those Pirelli's make you feel warm and fuzzy in the corners.😁 -
Well my parts arrived, and a big Thank You to mello dude for pointing me to cycleterminal for my connectors. So for the record........ Honda CB500X's from 2013-2017 use the FH020AA regulator, the CB5000R's may also, but I have not confirmed. I found one on Ebay at 541 Motosports out in Oregon for $26 shipped. Connectors came from cycleterminals as mentioned for $22.85 shipped. I'll have a go at this later this summer as suddenly I have a bunch of rides coming up.

Nice write up Dr. That shaft brace is a nifty idea. I must say also, that stacked cord wood in the backround of some of your photos would give you instant street cred where I live in Maine. Many people here heat their homes with wood or at least have a wood stove and a couple of cords for when we lose power, which happens quite often, especially in the winter.

You can also add a bypass switch to the fan circuit so you can manually start it earlier. The oil grade is covered in the owner's manual. For Dubai temperatures the cold end can be 10W or 20W, and the high end should be at least 40 (so 10W-40 or 20W-50 is acceptable).
-
The fan works solely from the thermoswitch that is plugged into the radiator. That completes a circuit when over about 102C and should open again around 98C. The fan motor should have power constantly, and then the path to earth is via the thermoswitch. You can test the fan just by pulling the spade off the thermoswitch and grounding that to the frame (with ignition on of course).

So my vf750f is 40 years old but was once considered a performance race bike. Mine has 20,000 kms so I don't think it should be to badly expired..it was not running when I bought it. I've since gave it the once twice three times over to the better of 25-30 x . I've cleaned replaced swapped everything I can from a donor if it in anyway could be hindering the bike overall...and repair/set /fix to my best ability..with the help of my backyard tool chest and you tube advice and repair manual. I'm not a mechanic. And alot of the technical mojo can go in one ear and out another...all this said I have some issues/questions. 1) can an ignition be fixed? When I first got the bike when I used the key and turned on the lights on dash would light up showing neutral oil etc..and the start button worked once only. Now they work when I jump the relay and the bike starts.but with the key in ACC position or on theres nothing ..and yes turning the key off kills the bike still .and the run/ off switch work still .....I took it apart and everything looks normal....what am I missing here. 2) having this issue leads to questions #2.. if the bike is running but the ignition not functioning as it should..will that allow my fans to work when they should? Or will it not get some signal to turn on? ...or is this a different problem to source out...and last where am I losing my power..bike starts idles runs...but is not anyway shape or form a performance machine that I'm sure it should....I've done carbs over. Air leak tests .coil swaps. Igniters boxes .air filters. Anything I can think of ..besides cams...and it seems to just run flat... No giddy up......it's better than when I bought it but not Winning any races....

Have to agree with you there, the CT is NOT an off-road bike.

As far as I know, YES: VFR is made in Japan only. It could be possible that the homologation plate may vary according to the destination country. Further to the temperature, as Worfje wrote, VFR runs averagely hot even at temperate climates. In Dubai, I expect the liquid to run superhot as soon as the speed gets lower, below 40-50 kmh. My only suggestion is to change the oil more frequently, since the high temperatures will degrade the oil rapidly. On the market you may find some coolant additive to get the temperature slightly lower (althought their impact is a few but, you know, everything could be of any help)

New 5th/6th/8th gen performance header now in production in USA

Concur. I got my set used off a 6th gen. Works just fine on my 5th! -
VFRs tend to run hot... so I hope there aren't too many traffic lights over there. 🙂
-
I assume Honda made all VFRs in Japan? But, there are some Dutch words on this plate... so I assume it was sold in the Netherlands. But also some Spanish...
-
Hello everyone, can someone help me understand what is the country of origin of this vfr800? Also i would be happy to get any suggestions regarding specific engine oil viscosity to run in hot climate 45-50 degree celcious weather. (dubai)

250725 - SMALL UPGRADE Some beautiful pieces of engineering came into my garage, today 😎 One is the forkbrace plate I was waiting for, machined by my good friend Mario running "Torneria Baderna", a billet machining workshop in northern Italy The smallest is a shaft holder, designed to embrace the gear selector shaft; this reduces its cantilever and makes the gear selection more precise, also preventing the oil seal from damaging since the shaft is less prone to bend. And the forkbrace plate finally in place. The previously installed plate was fine anyway, but this one is keeping my name on it, so I'll be surely faster 😎 😁

Thanks Mate and good luck with the bike, looking forward to seeing how your bike turns out with all the upgrades, great engine that you are familiar with already, that's the most important thing. The only thing I don't fancy is the spoked wheels, think it was a form over function decision by Honda, there was no need for spoked wheels on a bike like this imo anyway.

Swapping to USD forks on your Honda VFR800 (2014) can be a great upgrade for handling, but it’s tricky due to the ABS/traction sensors. If the new forks don’t support the OEM sensor setup, your ABS and traction control may stop working or throw errors. Changing the wheel, discs, and sensors requires custom work or a donor setup with compatible electronics. It's not plug-and-play do it only if you’re ready for fabrication and tuning.

Dave Moss has live internet video suspension set up sessions you can book, check his site for in person sessions also. I paid for his subscription service to get videos on the MS setup, he may have some for the Aprilia. I have a 1100 spring on my ‘99 and my ‘98 came with a 1200, seems good for me at 205lb.

Oops. I do believe I know how to post YT videos or they wouldn't be on YT. However I may have screwed up copying the link to the playlist. Thanks for the helpful comment. -
I think that you might not know how to post videos. You're in your YT studio in these links. You need the link to the actual video.
