We never got the 1988 or 1989 VFR in the States. If you have better access to the European parts, yes, it is all bolt on. EXCEPT the fuse box mounted to the triple clamp, if yours is configured that way. The 86 FII had the fuse box under the dash, so that wasn't an issue. I recently converted an 86 F to 41mm forks (from a CBR) and relocated the fuse box to under the left inner panel. It was not straight forward, but I found a way to make it work without extensive re-wiring. Had to create one sub-harness, all stock connectors are still intact. The upper triple clamp and bars are RC36. A 88/89 upper triple clamp is the better choice if the ignition lock is important to you, as the RC36 does not clear the frame bracket. It's just not a great looking triple clamp without the plastic cover, which has been too expensive for me to pull the trigger on. Lower triple clamp is 1988 VFR.

Hi to all Here's the fleet - I have 4th(1997) and 6th(2010) gen VFRs, and a CB400F2 from 1978. Had the 6th gen since October last year. In May it left me beached with a failed RR and also having taken out the stator when I measured the output from it. Replaced the stator and fitted a MT09 (and other Yamahas) RR unit with 10AWG wiring everywhere 😃. 17k miles The 750 hasn't let me down and has standard electrics afaik. I'll be doing a full service inc valve clearances soon, as I have little history for it. Sourced an 8 spoke and had the wheels powder coated in RAL9006. Exhaust came with it. 25k miles. The 400 is unrestored stock spec apart from electronic ignition. Er, 3k miles genuine! Based quite central in N1. Kind regards!

so, replacing the front shocks and wheel is a quite straight forward job if I get a '86 and feel like replacing the front wheel? Very nice and clean looking bike by the way.

The bike had some sun fading on those parts when I got it, so I changed out all of the blue accents on the bike. The remaining blue seat eventually looked really out of place. Solo seat cowl pads SUCK to reupholster. Saved the original seat and pad and covered replacements.

Nice, @Captain 80s, you even have white cockpit and inner fairing. I havn't seen that before.
-
I installed the 17" wheels on my 1986 VFR700FII. They are still skinny, but I do like the way the 17" front feels. I have a set of the 41mm forks and triples with Race Tech Emulators, along with the correct 17" front wheel for the wider disc spacing for when I install my freshly rebuilt Ohlins shock. Currently has an 87 shock to re-gain the rear ride height and the forks slip up in the clamps.

That's an awesome looking V4 workshop!
-
If you fancy the RC24, here and there they later ('89) came with 17" wheels, 41mm front fork, 4 piece fairing, modified valve spring mechanism and a few other nice changes. If I were to buy a RC24 now I would probably prefer a '86 or '87 in good shape. Not for being better but for availability of parts (if ever needed). The one you are looking at seems nice but for a vintage enthusiast one with original paint scheme might make more sense. I still remember the wow-effect it had when the all white bike with white wheels came along.

Really like CycleTerminal, they are always helpful and good service. Also I like DelCity. They have a wide range of products, quite a bit of marine quality stuff too.

I'm getting so many awards and stuff, I don't know what to do
TimC replied to VTCAL's topic in Fifth Generation VFR's
I saw this thread's name and at first I thought it was about those unfortunate "driving awards" some of us get from members of local and state law enforcement. 😆 The forum went through changes a couple times, and some folks lost their post counts. I was one of them. Back in the day, I was on VFRD several times a day and even at night. I would have won every award possible, due to my former 'post-ho' ways. 😉 -
Thanks. mello dude here pointed these guys out to me, reasonably priced, fast and fair shipping. They are definitely on my list of parts suppliers I keep in my garage. Motorcycle Terminals, Connectors, and Wiring Accessories

And some love both. In addition to my four 1986 VFRs (two RC24 & two RC26), I have a 1992 RC36-I and a 1995 RC36-II. They each have something unique to offer.

Hi, please could you offer some recommendations for aftermarket panniers for an 8th Gen VFR, preferably with a neat fitting solution - so that the aesthetics are not ruined when the panniers are not fitted. I recently bought this bike without luggage (what a great bike btw) and now realise that trying to purchase the original Honda kit is a very elusive option. Many thanks in advance! Jason.

Thank you for all the feedback. Will go and look at bike this coming Thursday. Having that said.. Meanwhile I've been digging more into VFRs history and seen many videos. And what I notice is that there's just as many opinions out there as there's videos and articles 🙂 Some people love the rc36, other the rc24. In terms of parts and tires, rc36 seems to be good (also the single side swingarm), but I also love the retrolook of the rc24. It gives me real 80-90 vibe feeling and some of the lines reminds me of Akira.

Air box lid flapper , this is sort of funny
DrErgal replied to VTCAL's topic in Fifth Generation VFR's
Me tu, dude! 😁 I think we're many, here inside 😅 -
Doing it by riding it is what I would like to do. I live in Brooklyn NY. Finding a long stretch of road where you can reliably maintain the process without having to suddenly full stop multiple times is near impossible. I have researched that 400-500C (750-930F) is the transfer temperature. My idea was with the rear tire off the ground, give throttle and lightly ride the rear brake on and off while monitoring the temperature with an infrared thermometer I have. Once I get in temperature range then begin to cycle through the transfer/cooling process. This would definitely be a 2 man procedure.

That fiber mesh tape that dry wallers use might be just the ticket. I thought about cutting up the screen from the old airfilter element. So many options, those dang rodents are a bother! And I store the VFR inside my house all winter! -
I figured this out today - the guy who sold it to me had the fuel line from the fuel pump hooked up to the plastic air line on the carbs. This explained my fuel leak. The carbs look like they could use a once over so I'm going to rebuild them.

Use the plastic flap for the patch and plastic weld it in place. That's what I did but forgot take pics. Next time ⏲️ ...... iirc someone used some mesh over the openings to keep out 🐁

Oops. I do believe I know how to post YT videos or they wouldn't be on YT. However I may have screwed up copying the link to the playlist. Thanks for the helpful comment. -
I think that you might not know how to post videos. You're in your YT studio in these links. You need the link to the actual video.
