  3. Yes, you have to drill out the the holes. it isn't much, mostly just the existing threads, but you aren't going to reverse it without a tap&die and custom bolts of some kind. I have no intention of going back to factory, I only use the front portion of the Sargent seat so that the cowl creates a nice little storage space for rain layers / spare visor / etc.

  4. they are the Sargent quick release pins. not exactly a great deal price wise, but they look and work just fine.

  5. Rode off-road from Hwy 108 ( Near Pinecrest) to Highway 4 (Arnold) on Hell's Half Acre Road, it was 63 miles, but took around 3 hours with a few wrong turns on the spaghetti fire road system. Then we decided to ride over Ebbets Pass (8,736') on highway 4. Then we took a right on highway 89 and over Monitor Pass (8,314'). After gassing up in Walker, we took 395 south and then headed back over Sonora Pass (9,623') back to our campsite. Over 200 miles of twists and turns.

  7. I love this photo, slo1. The red VFR stands out and the curves leading to the mountains make you want to jump on and GO!

  10. Yes, they are powder coated a very HRC brownish gold.

  11. NICE! I love the gold wheels almost more than I love the white wheels that I sometimes see people put on these! Did you powder coat them?

  12. Not if you navigate like me, ha ha. Your photo actually reminded me of UT12 just south of Torrey.

  13. What a lovely scene. It reminds me of places I've ridden in Oregon and NorCal, but I suspect it might be someplace a thousand miles away.

  17. I spent the time with 5 friends, we had a really good time. I needed a relaxing vacation, I rode 5 demo rides most were so so the Aprillia Tuono, that ride was insane..factory sponsored demo ride was absolutely insane. We were really flogging those bikes. Possibly replacing the veefalo. I'm debating on the mt-10 sp, or the ktm 1200gt. Both have semi active suspension. I like the Yamaha reliability and easy parts. But I really like the ktm. The Tuono is not comfortable to ride for me..fun though. I need more relaxed ergos now.

  18. The furthest inland I've been in Oz is Broken Hill. Up and back in one day on my 1st Gen VFR.

  24. This was Rt. 175, looking southeast, near Clear Lake CA. The mountain is Mt. Konocti, a volcano by the lake. 175 was a great road but cold, and lots of gravel that day. No TC on the 2010 7th gen!

  25. Oh my, what a lovely scene - the bike ain't half bad either. With luck, and an end to the pandemic restrictions I hope to return to Cali next summer

  29. Installed a set of Ventura rails and the topbox off my gen 3 as this is fast becoming the daily rider. Recovered the seat, replace the mirrors with OEM ones, fitted a quadlock bracket in the triple clamp, a RAM ball on the clutch master cylinder bracket, and put OEM adjustable brake and clutch leavers back on. Still need to put on a USB charger with a volt meter. Lastly, replaced the black double bubble screen with a standard light tint one from "screens for bikes" in Melbourne Australia. Great screen. But I just realised that the problem for me with the last screen was not the shape but that fact that it was solid black. My bad..

  33. I get that this was taken in California, but I saw this photo and immediately recognized the Oregon coast vibe (rocky, overcast, and cold looking). Also, I knew it was the Pacific Northwest rather than Maine because the ocean was on the left.

  34. I would be hard pressed to find two nicer looking bikes in the same Photo, maybe a 1997 Ducati 750 SuperSport and my 4th Gen with white wheels would come close. Both in red of course. My 91 3rd Gen in England had a black saddle as the few I have seen in the US, so I wonder what market that was built for? Or was there an option for seat color? .Either way, great all round bikes. Kudo's on the VF1000R, a zero speed threat to ones health and safety, but a surprisingly capable sport tourer, 7,800 miles from Maine to Calf and back in 2012 and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

  39. That's the Hite Crossing Bridge in the background on UT-95 (for those interested, Google Maps link below). This view is on the North side of the Colorado looking East. https://www.google.com/maps/@37.8894221,-110.409233,3a,75y,60.66h,86.98t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1sqBeEVc3O7lLuR8YPjesxHQ!2e0!7i3328!8i1664!9m2!1b1!2i45?hl=en When I came through there a cop was making a traffic stop at the turnout at the base of the outcrop on the right. Sort of ruined the moment for me. We are so blessed in North America to have these epic landscapes in CO, UT, AZ, MT, WY ID, Eastern OR and CA to ride through. Not only great roads, but spectacular other worldly landscapes that even the movies couldn't make up. Even though it's tempting to "pour on the coal" through these places, I try to take it easy at times to soak in the scenery - it's just too good to pass up. Time for another road trip! Come on vaccine . . . !
