Great bloke whose (nick) name is Grub. No worries Phil. Good to know you have a reliable Grub of a mechanic on your side to help you out. Cheers. Member Contributer Skids Posted July 18, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted July 18, 2022 Left it in the garage and took the car to work Forecast was for 39 deg C / 102 deg F and that is no fun on a bike.
Member Contributer bmart Posted July 18, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted July 18, 2022 That's really something for the UK! High of 98F here in Charlotte, NC on Saturday. May try to escape to elevation, but the slog down to sea level to the car is tough after!

Member Contributer ShipFixer Posted July 19, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted July 19, 2022 I got some of those Emgo replacement mirrors and replaced the mounts on my stock mirrors. The Emgo ones "look stock" and probably work but I didn't like something about them. Stock mounts had chips in the paint and the aluminum was bubbling. Now looks new... Member Contributer ShipFixer Posted August 21, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted August 21, 2022 Last week…but new Michelin Road 5 and a whole lot of cleanup on the rim. I also hit a lot of the trim pieces with Cerakote ceramic trim wipes. Highly recommend them! 2
Member Contributer ShipFixer Posted August 21, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted August 21, 2022 Okay and this is “something @SEBSPEED did for my VFR that I haven’t installed yet.” Cerakoted upper triple clamp and brake calipers. I have red Galfer stainless steel brake lines to go with them, as we all as a red Oberon clutch slave piston upgrade. 5

Member Contributer Ughandi Posted September 7, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted September 7, 2022 After wrecking this March, this week I placed an order for new fiberglass fairings from AirTech, then took off all her clothes to assess further damages & knock out a few small items off the punch list (LED flasher unit, removing the resistors, LED plate light, inspect sparkies, clean clean clean, etc) Tried to fire her up. Starter motor spun great, but the beast did not sing. Grabbed the can-o-fire and sprayed into the intake, and she sputtered alive for a moment. Sparks and coils must be good, but my fuel may have gone bad after sitting for nearly 6 months with ~2 starts just to keep the blood moving. Will investigate more when I find more garage time. + Also ordered R&G frame sliders for when life happens next time.
Member Contributer bmart Posted September 7, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted September 7, 2022 You likely know this, but fuel with ethanol starts to degrade after ~2 weeks...assuming it was fresh when it was added. I stopped using it in everything.
SubyRS
Today I installed Competition Werkes Fender Tidy kit on my 2014. Installation was 100% bolt-on. My customizations were painting the stainless kit satin black before installing, and reusing the OEM 5mm shoulder bolts on the sides instead of the included red reflectors. I provided my own lock nuts on the underside. I also removed the plastic 1" license light spacer to bring the light in line with the center of the plate. Last thing was reusing the OEM flange nuts between the stainless kit and the rubber seal behind the light. This made the installed unit rock solid and it looks much, much better.
VFR4Me
SubyRS... that looks great!...I never even noticed that I could take that spacer out on mine when I did the comp-werkes eliminator. Also took the 8th gen out for a 250 mile ride yesterday thru Tarryal reservoir and Deckers area yesterday....
SubyRS
Thanks. I read in the old fender-tidy topic that people were filing something off to get the Werkes kit to fit. I didn't see anything like that was necessary. Once you remove the license light spacer, to remount you just need a couple of 2 mm spacer washers, or re-use the OEM flange nuts as spacers like I did. If you don't fill the gap between the stainless steel and the rubber isolation grommets, the grommets will pull through as you tighten the license light nuts. I never liked how the OEM license extension flopped a little no matter how tight it's mounting hardware was.
Member Contributer bmart Posted September 19, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted September 19, 2022 Yesterday, but I took about 90 minutes to do 30 minutes worth of work, wiping a few things down (I got mocked for a filthy bike the other day!) and performing an oil change.

I decided to replace mine at 60,000ks they looked excellent and the gap was still in spec and the bike had absolutely no running issues. I wouldn't hesitate if need be in refitting the originals (which I've kept) and run them for another say 30,000k's. The OEMs are NGK IMR9D-9H's, a top quality Iridium and Platinum long life plug. NGK specify a design life (guide only) for these plugs at 100,000 miles !!! Though I'd definitely not run them out to that distance. YMMV. Cheers.
Member Contributer Lorne Posted November 6, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted November 6, 2022 Today was the first sunny day in a couple of weeks, and since my insurance runs out in a week or so I took my VFR on some errands. Sunny ≠ warm, and there was a brisk wind, too. But I found a favourite spot to snap this piccy for posterity. This is atop King George terrace in Victoria, BC. 3

Member Contributer bmart Posted November 7, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted November 7, 2022 250. There's a lot of chatter about all of the improvements on the 300, but most skilled riders seem to think that no one would notice. And I never even use the 250 power!
Member Contributer bmart Posted December 20, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted December 20, 2022 VFR forks getting attention over the next week or three. Trying a new to me place that came highly recommended from a riding buddy. '98 forks are excellent from Thermosman. 22k+ since last refresh. Also bringing '00 forks to request setting the damping up as similar as they can get to the perfect '98. We'll see! (Still hunting for a reasonably prices shock for the '00.) Also taking both ends of the CB-1 to the same guy. It has been a decade and a lot of miles since they've been refreshed either. Also also taking the KLX to him to let him set up the carbs properly. We've made it better, but it still runs rich and doesn't like to run when it is cold, on or off of choke. The garage is a frackin' mess with parts and bolts everywhere.
