Question

Once in a while I search and look at what others have done and it seems there is quite a few combinations. Just looking to make a survey of whats out there. Thought it might be fun too. Maybe I'm crazy enuff to do this again. I wonder if you could list your combination of what you have working. Please only list if your bike is together and you have been riding it. Try to keep descriptions short and sweet, with quick notes to point how it got together. For the list go like -- Generation, wheel, calipers, forks and mods, fender and attachment, brake lines, triple trees, clip-ons, brake master cylinder, time on the road.

I'll list mine to give the idea, mines at the milder end of the spectrum..(but no linked brakes!)

5th gen - stock wheel and rotor - RC51 calipers- needed minor grinding to fit, Super Hawk lower fork legs- some matching grinding here to for the calipers, stock fender but needed custom fender brackets to fit to the SH forks, stock VFR800 upper tubes, Traxxion Dynamics valving with 1.0 Kg spring, Spiegler custom brake lines, bone stock triple trees,

4th gen clip-ons, RC51 master cylinder, on the road about a year and a half.

Ok - whatcha got?

5th gen with the whole RC51 SP2 front: forks, wheel, rotors, calipers, fender, brake and clutch master cylinders with SS lines, RC tapered bearings and Cyclecat clip ons. 4th gen dogbone on the rear suspension to raise the rear. Just over a year now and it's doing well. Still thinking of a 1000RR swap and putting the RC front end on the VF.

my list of stuff is here in this topic:

VFRSP2 Linky

I copied and pasted your list ----

Heres the list of bits I used:

SP2 forks

SP2 wheel, rotors, spacers, axle

SP1 front fender

SP1 steering stem

Tapered roller head bearings (SP1 lower, VFR upper)

954 upper triple

929 helibars

954 front calipers

F4i front master cylinder

HEL braided front brake lines

EBC HH front pads

Ok I'm dumb - what are those preload adjusters?

Also - Pretty cool so far - I'd like to try a keep this thread going so its a good research spot.

i'm using a combination of ohlins rc51forks with cbr1000rr radial arm mounts with a cbr fender , this mod is loosely based on veefer800canuck's vfr mod and zroyz's and tok tokkies mod, they are all a great inspiration to my mods.

5th gen, stock wheel and rotors, f4i forks, racetech .95 springs, f4i triples, f4i calipers, spiegler brake line kit, f4i master cylinder, pazzo levers, stock r157 f4i front fender, on the road for about a year.

very clean install, significant improvement over stock adding a lot of adjustability and far better braking.

I think I have one of the easiest and least expensive versions (mostly used parts) on my 4gen:

F4i forks, axle, spacers (43mm, rebound/compression, preload)

VTEC triples

Superbike handlebar but F4i or vtec clipons "should" work Edit: vtec clipons will work (fit).

GSXR1000 6piston brakes (02-03)

F4i fender

Stock:

VFR wheel

rotors

Head bearings

NOTE: I don't have a stock fairing so I can't address 4gen clearance issues but I haven't heard of any problems from others on this forum. 5/6 gen would have to address LBS issues. Used forks came with full racetech treatment and heavier springs.

No issues with clearance or modification of fork stops. On the road for about 9 months now. LOVE it and would only consider going to USD for radial brakes but no easy/cheap solutions I've seen and besides the gixxer brakes are MORE than adequate :comp13: .

I didn't post on this thread earlier because my RC51 SP1 front end isn't yet on the bike (I think I finally have all the parts, though), but then I remembered that I've had a "Frankenviffer" for almost ten years!

Mine's a 3d-gen:

VTR1000F forks (lenghtened & Race-Teched) & axle

4th-gen VFR wheel, rotors & spacers

VTR front fender (R-157)

Tapered roller stem bearings

CBR600RR front calipers

ST1100 front master cylinder (integrated reservoir)

VFR800Fi clutch master cylinder (to match brake MC)

Goodridge braided front brake lines

EBC HH front pads

TBR preload adjusters

(Everything else is OEM VFR750FP)

Ciao,

This sounds familiar, but here goes:

3rd gen, with:

Stock wheel and rotors

2000 R1 forks, Hyperpro progressive springs. Lots of preload. Mounted with top of forks at top of triple, same length as stock forks.

2000 R1 calipers and pads.

2000 R1 fender, painted to match in Pearl Crystal White

2000 R1 axle, turned down to meet VFR bearing size.

Galfer front SS lines.

SP1 RC51 triples, upper and lower.

SP1 triple bearings.

Convertibars. was Ducati ST3 clip-ons, but they broke.

Had to clearance upper radiator support to gain maximum steering movement.

Works good. Biggest complaint, steering reduction makes it a pain in the garage to move.

Pics in gallery.

Oooh.... me likey this thread.

'99 VFR 800

= Penske shock

= Stock front fork with:

== F3 rebound cartridge

== .95kg RaceTech spring

== Assembled and revalved by Dave Hodges at GP Suspensions

= Ignition Brake "De-Linking" Kit w/ ss brake lines

The brakes are pretty dang good right now with just the brake de-linking kit as you get to use all 3 pistons up front.

And being able to independantly use the rear brake is aces in my book. No more front-dive on parking lot maneuvers, slippery conditions, trail-braking, etc.

The front is MUCH better now. No wallowing and no horrible diving on heavy braking. But ... I still want/need to play with compression adjustments ... and can't. arghh.

The rear end is so well-behaved that I don't even think about it. <grin>

So, I have now 3 choices:

== Get the new "rumored" sport version of the new VFR in 2011

== Upgrade to an F4i or other front end

== Say, "oh well" and just go ride it ... lots

Cheers! E-Ticket

That does it - I REALLY must get out htis afternoon, even if the rain doesn't clear, and try out my rejigged suspension. It did have 0.95 Sonic springs, Racetech valving, and a 2-way Elka shock, but now it's got 0.90 Ohlins springs, Ohlin oil, and unknown shimstack (and possibly revalved gold valves - I dunno). I've also moved the Elka reservoir from under the seat to the left pillion footpeg, so I can adjust the damping more easily. I had to fabricate a bracket for that out of aluminum - hope it's OK.

Now, I've got this front end:

RC51 SP1 forks $400; Dan Kyle valved/sprung for street $300

RC51 axle, spacers $25

CBR1000RR triples $50

954 upper triple since cbr upper didn't look as good $90

RC51 clipons $20

RC51 SP2 wheel (5 spoke, lighter than sp1 6 spoke) $120

RC51 rotors $50

RC51 Fender $40 (minor nick in paint)

Radial mount adapters $250

CBR1000RR radial brakes $80

CBR lines that were too short and caused a highside: priceless

Sorry to hear about this, always makes me worry if the mods I've done will bite me back one day.

Did you have the forks revalved by Dan? Mine are also redone by Dan Kyle but it was specifically for the RC & I've been thinking of having them done again for the VFR.

Mine:

4th gen

03 CBR954 Forks, Triple, Wheel, Rotors, Calipers, Clip ons, Galfer SS lines, Fender

98 VTR1000 Brake master cylinder

Stock '95 Honda VFR steering stem bearings

Very easy install, 2 issues to resolve: dash clearance with clip ons and oil radiator clearance with forks

My resolution: '98 CBR900 gauges, lowered oil radiator 1 hole on fairing stay.
