  1. These go by so quickly. What a trip over the Rockies with Derek, Tammy, Rob, Craig, Darren, Jeff and Al. So great riding and hanging out with you all. I'd do it again next week. You're the best. Saw old friends and made new ones. My special thanks to Corner Carver for letting me sample some real hp and to the Carver clan for diving in on our dead stators. VFRD at its best. Obligatory Rushmore shot . . .

  5. It was an incredible event. Just a few highlights for now, with more to come once we're home. - Huge bow in respect to Fred & Lisa (huntinggunns & VcFR) for the rescue run. - To all the superior mechanically inclined Carvers, Qdawg VeeferCanuk and others, helping to perform 2 parking lot stator-ectomies, a chain relink & install plus several other tunes, tweaks and fittings. - OUTSTANDING hospitality from Don & Brenda the owners of the Rocket Motel (everyone needs to post 5******* on google & trip adviser for them) - The many helping hands to make the event such a smooth operation, best in 9 years. I'm sure a flood of pics will follow as everyone departed today.

  7. The good news is that you got this behind you now. Because one day you will drop your bike. Most likely the brake pedal can be bent back.. Minor scratches will buff out and a litte rattlecan of black paint for the weight. I already thought I could hear a distant scream "MALAKKAS" earlier, now I know it was you The bad news is: I know your pain....

  8. Nice pictures. That's a hell of a lot of lean angle. I ride the same bike at a similar pace on the road. You could probably reduce lean angle and be a tad safer if you worked on body position. Little crossed up there, Doohan style. On the road it's nice to have more in reserve. Just friendly advice.

  10. I finally got around to finishing Phase 3 of my eVo4 project. This should have been completed last year, but some health issues put paid to that idea while still in the middle of some serious re-wiring. Once I tried to continue this year, it was a nightmare trying to remember what I had planned to do and even what I'd already done (I blame the drugs:-). However I finally got it back on the road last week and I think it now represents my original vision. I noticed that the first and second phases of my conversion project are no longer viewable as I believe DropBox changed the URL scheme, so here's the full story:- https://www.dropbox.com/sh/z8yu4aut96wabsa/AADRBsQyLx4MbN2gPIAUROOUa?dl=0

  12. Tammy works on cornering skills in the parking lot while Mr Carver instructs and 4 other volunteers lean the bike so she can get the feel of it. The Carvers play tug of war with CagelessinSeattles stator wire. Those things are a real PITA on a 6th gen, but were no match for a determined bunch of VFRD attendees. Lots of hands pitching in on that one. Finally the Rocket near sunset. It was neat as a pin and the owners were super hosts. I needed a battery for my cell phone - the closest availble was in Rapid City an hour away. They offered to pick it up for me as they were headed there later in the day. You won't find that at a chain hotel. They were super nice people, and good cooks too!!

  13. And Tony, Thanks to you, without which none of this would have happened. You never dissappoint - fantastic job as always. Safe travels home.

  14. Walt, If it's cool out, I can state that I routinely see 168F - 178F. I can also say that, with four bikes with 36,000 miles to 105,000 miles (on my first, bought at 4,000 miles), I've never had a thermostat fail or replaced. Lucky me.

  15. Well now I feel stupid. I had checked the fuses but was looking for burnt (as I have always seen with electrical issues with this bike) and not broken. I went through them again and the two 20a fuses were indeed broken. So the booster pack blew the fuses and thus disabled the fuel pump but the bike was still able to run (badly) on what was in the lines. No charging or starting issue after all 🙂 Thanks for the help!

  16. Appreciate it, pictures shot by 13 year old son. I was going for lean angle on that last shot. Usually do get the bum a bit further off the seat and head lower than the windscreen, no elbows touching though ;^)

  18. AHhhahhah, I sweared a lot, my friend told me that when you drop a bike is like you find your girlfriend giving a bj to another guy, it sucks eheheh. Anyway its the first time I drop a bike and feel awful but, hey, at the end of the day, it happens to almost everybody.

  19. Just a side issue! When you stop your bike do you use the Kill Switch? I know a lot of riders that do and its a bad habit to get in to. The reason - you may get distracted, or as you did accidentally walk away from your bike, your headlights will still be ON and before too long you have a dead battery. Switching your bike OFF via the Ignition Switch also lessons the chance of leaving keys in the Ignition as well as killing your headlights. Technically the Kill Switch is there for emergency use. Good luck with the Fuel Pump Prime issues, lets know how it goes. Cheers.

  20. Team VFR, I have tried a bunch of the aftermarket screens. MRA vario-touring. Spoiler screen. Finally tried the Zero Gravity touring screen and it is by far the best. I'm 6'2. The air flow management is so much better with this I wish I ordered it out of the gate. And it looks nice on the bike too. 🙂 Highly recommended. No issues on quality or thickness either.

  21. VFR has worked well first half of trip. My RAM Double Socket is not long enough with a loaded tankbag. I reckoned this would be the case, but AMZN couldn't get the longer one to me before I left this morning. No worries though...

  23. I'd like to expand on this subject. Every one of the five fifth gens I've owned has needed steering head bearings. My first around 50,000 mi. The soonest was at 25,000 miles. To check them, put the machine on it's centerstand. Weight the rear end (I use a concrete block on a piece of cardboard on the pillion seat) and then slowly rotate the front suspension from lock to lock. If you can detect a "notch" in the center of the movement, that is a worn bearing. The OEM bearings are low quality ball bearings. At least on every fifth gen I've owned. Tapered roller bearings are recommended. Many referrer to them made by All Balls. They are not all the same quality. American made tapered roller bearings are recommended, so I've read on this very site. Regarding tire recommendations. Being on a lean budget I've found Michelin PR2s, a multi-compound tire, to be quite good in rain, great in the dry and last me up to 10,000 mi. Check out their pricing and give them a try if you are money sensitive. Good luck and good riding.

  26. Both the Red and White look great. While I was in the process of plastidipping mine, I had this look as well as using 20mm ammo cans till my saddle bags arrived. Where did the tank “wings” come from?

  28. Great weekend up in the mountains. First shot is during the ride up, just had to stop and capture the sunset and VFR. The rest are putting her through the paces on my favorite stretch of road. Most laps done with my son and then I dropped him to take a few pics of me carving corners. Enjoy!

  31. Late to respond here, but the cush drive assembly doesn't always just fall off once you remove the nut and washer. You have to pry off the axle collar if it there is any kind of corrosion/crud. Check out this video at 4:39 in.

  32. Thanks all for your warm welcome. I am ejoying her already. I have ridden her for 300 kms from 2 days ago I got her. unfortunately she fell as i was trying to put her on the center stand, i tried to hold her but fell on the right side: Brake pedal bent, minor scratches on the fairing, and scratch on the clip on weight. It was awfull, put fortunately, not very big damage. I was funny as I have not dropped any of my motos (heavier ones). i think i must be more careful with the center stand (my first moto with center stand)

  33. It pains me greatly to write this. I will not make the event this time around. Although it is not usually the case in the summer, I've suffered from chronic depression since adolescence. This past month or more I've had a relapse. I have no energy. I'm telling my self this is only for now. That it will pass. That I will travel by VFR again. Just not now. I'll miss seeing all you folks greatly. I hope you have a great and accident free gathering. Sadly, for now Terry (Max not so Swell right now) P.S. I've cancelled my reservation at The Rocket Motel. I hope this gives another participants to join the group lodging.
