Member Contributer Dutchy Posted June 26, 2013 Member Contributer Share Posted June 26, 2013 Mock up time!!!! Please let me have your votes and if you have any, arguments for or against either option. Mounting the right case will entail chopping of the section that goes being the licence plate. It interferes too much with the Akrapovic. I will figure out some alternative rigidity. Project code name "Viagra" Higher Lower will clamp to the grips methink... (either over or under)
wera803
At first I was going to vote higher, just for more clearance when leaned over, but looking at the pictures, I think the lower looks better and seems to follow the lines a little better, at least from behind. Member Contributer Cogswell Posted June 27, 2013 Member Contributer Share Posted June 27, 2013 I voted higher, though I might be inclined to lower them just enough to get the bend in the bracket to conform to the contour line in the rear cowl so that the bottom of the bag does not need to be kicked out (or maybe that can be done as shown, not sure) - that will keep the line of the bag vertical to the ground. The SW Motech bag mounts might provide some ideas for fabricating some sort of adapter that would make it easy to remove the mounts when the bags are not in use. Not so much on the 6th gens, but on 5th gen models you hardly see the hardware with mounts removed. That's my one beef with the 6th gen OEM hardware - once it's on, it's too much of a headache to take on and off, so I just leave it in place, even though I hate looking at it. Since you'll be cutting and welding, might as well have it the way you want it. http://shop.sw-motech.com/cgi-bin/cosmoshop/lshop.cgi?action=showdetail&wkid=13722927921442&ls=en&nc=1372293148-4412&rubnum=brands.honda.vfr800vtec&artnum=KFT.01.134.150&id=35&gesamt_zeilen=Tshowrub--brands.honda.vfr800vtec&typid=103111021
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted July 12, 2013 Author Member Contributer Share Posted July 12, 2013 Update! My friend/neighbor made me a sturdy bracket; having a spare sub-frame sure helps with getting the measurements I *think* I will drill one more hole in the middle of the metal plate. Put a bolt through, all the way through the black plastic and make another 90 degree bracket that bolts onto the 2 bolts on the other side. Member Contributer VFR Capt.Bob Posted July 12, 2013 Member Contributer Share Posted July 12, 2013 Higher looks more correct to me at first but lower seems to fit your bikes lines better so long as there are no clearance issues with the ground or swing arm. I vote a qualified lower.

Member Contributer MaxSwell Posted July 12, 2013 Member Contributer Share Posted July 12, 2013 I have not voted or studied the various arrangements but on general principals, if you have the leaned-over clearance, lower is better for weight distribution. Guest
I would watch going to high, one thing I didn"t like about my VFR is that the rack handles stick up above the seat. interfering with carrying things on the rear seat. My Ducati and its bags sit below the seat, so I can carry oddball items.
Member Contributer Bassie Posted July 13, 2013 Member Contributer Share Posted July 13, 2013 To be honest, I think the lower looks like a bad mounting job being done. Ergo I voted higher.
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted July 13, 2013 Author Member Contributer Share Posted July 13, 2013 It will be low, driven by the rear underseat bracket. No way to make it high w/o reengineering. More pics to follow.
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted July 13, 2013 Author Member Contributer Share Posted July 13, 2013 2 down, one to go (The right one will be a bit more fabbing brackets tokeep clear of the Akra whilst maintaining level with the left case.. Prime and rattle can next.... Use a sorter bolt, Same with this one. I have a strip of slightly beefier metal, but this seem sturdy enough... and this is how she looks, all tarted up

Member Contributer Cogswell Posted July 14, 2013 Member Contributer Share Posted July 14, 2013 I measured the left side bag up to the rear hinge pin and got 22 inches, or 56 cm.
