Better to raise the rear IMO. If I recall right I dropped the orginal forks as much I could whit a marginal for flex that the front wheel didn`t hit the engine, and that was 13mm if I recall right, so quit a bit! But steering was super fast! Quote

On 1/16/2024 at 7:39 PM, Captain 80s said: I should have written looks like it fits, But you are right, it doesn't fit. The 2 back bolts has a 3mm difference in mounting, to big to drill out plus there is a height difference to. Was the bolling whit idea to take out the pin that holds the cap from the holder ring, but even there is a difference in height between look that slide out and sealing surface. Amen, need to return the fuel cap I bought But as cap off cleaned the surface inside it, and cap back on.... Tank needs a good deep polish for sure! But looks good inside Quote

Just looked that according to part number 86, 87 different as 88/89 but those 2 year have same Quote
Member Contributer Captain 80s Posted January 23 Member Contributer Posted January 23 I know the 88 has the same pattern as 86/87. I have seen pics of a key less Tyga CBR cap "adjusted" to fit an 88. Can't speak to the absolute quality of fitment. 1 Quote
Member Contributer tsmitty Posted January 23 Member Contributer Posted January 23 keny can you possibly re-fit the hinge of the new cap to fit your old ring? Quote

keny Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 Inspected the cut in current front tire, looks like a act of destruction, it's sure deep so no chance I want to ride whit it, a new one needed even there price are almost crazy today...... A flat screwdriver what I open the cut whit 1 Quote
Member Contributer bmart Posted February 4 Member Contributer Posted February 4 Is the structure cut or is it just rubber? Quote
Member Contributer Captain 80s Posted February 4 Member Contributer Posted February 4 Pretty sure that is actually the "seam" when they made the tire, delaminating. I have seen it many times at the shop, including one of my bikes. It looks like somebody took a blade across it. Avon bias ply did it for a few years. And some Pirelli I think. Customers were convinced of vandalism, but it wasn't the case. It's one of the reasons tires are directional besides water dispersment of the tread pattern. The acceleration and braking forces can start pulling that apart if ran in the wrong direction. But it can still happen even if mounted properly. Your tire sure looks OLD anyway. What's the date code? Quote
Member Contributer bmart Posted February 4 Member Contributer Posted February 4 One model Dunlop did it too a long time ago. Quote

It's a Pirelli Sport Demon, one of 4 you get in this size nowadays. Just ordered a Dunlop Street smart that I been reading much good of. Only Smart choice I think even was hoping to test the bike working good next summer whit the current tires, in case I go for a fork convention anyway, But for now orginal size it will be.... Quote
Member Contributer MBrane Posted February 5 Member Contributer Posted February 5 The Pirelli Sport Demons I ran ran on my '87 Ninja 600 never did that, but they didn't make it close to 7 years either. I would ditch those without hesitation. Quote
Member Contributer bmart Posted February 5 Member Contributer Posted February 5 Only 9 years old? lol Yea...I'd get rid of those! They're probably fine for running around, but I wouldn't want to have to rely on them in an emergency situation. Quote
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted February 5 Member Contributer Posted February 5 I bought a VF500F2 for keny 11 years ago with 15? year old BT45's on it. Thread depth was good. So keny opted to ride some 1600kms in 23 hours to Stockholm to catch the ferry to Finland. Keny will be fine with 9 yr old tires no problemo.... 😁 2 Quote

keny Posted February 7 Author Posted February 7 Today ordered 2 second hand wheels, a CBR600F2 for the rear and a VFR400 NC24 front wheel. 1 Quote
keny Posted February 11 Author Posted February 11 Some small progress today, well most of time to sort stuff after the move last year as some inspiration what needs to be done. The sorting mainly to get the VFR finally in place so can be worked on easy. From beginning noticed the rear brake needs sorting as dragging as making some sound moving bike backwards. The brake pads are close to end of life as uneven worn. Hard to see in picture Brake disk has some wear but not bad so will use it as long the orginal wheel is in place. The locking plate for the pins holding the brake pads is missing and locked by a steel wire Looking into the bolt hole you see why the looking plate is missing, the bolt hole for the bolt looking it has no treads left... So treads need to be made. I should have a looking plate around, need to find it. Have first to take the caliper off and see if pistons are badly jammed, hopefully not. As I inspected the rear brake noticed there might need to be some modifications made to the Devil 4-1 exhaust as I raising the tail, looks close to swingarm So to do list don't get shorter, but I think a small dent in the pipe might sort clearance issues whit out power loss you can feel, it's a big diameter pipe in this section. Quote
Member Contributer bmart Posted February 11 Member Contributer Posted February 11 Brake pads close to end of life? Hardly...unless they're a lot thinner on the side we can't see. Clean them up with a brass brush and clean the rotors and run those suckers. New pads are only a few mm thick, so what looks like 1.5-2.0mm left is probably 1/2 to 1/3 of life left...so 10k miles? Quote
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted February 11 Member Contributer Posted February 11 Take the calipers off and clean the pins, especially #13 Bet ya it will look like this... 2 1 Quote
squirrelman Posted February 12 Posted February 12 the same thing appeared on a vfr i bought a few years ago, something proper maintenance would prevent. Quote
Member Contributer bmart Posted February 12 Member Contributer Posted February 12 Let us know how you like them once you get some miles in. I went Roadsmart 3 on both of my VFRs, but wouldn't mind saving some dosh next time around. 1 Quote

Well didn't look that bad even not good The pistons are bearly moving, specially one of them but eventually got them out, a rebuild kit for rear caliper needed Quote

One I know recommend these strongly, he use them on a old FJ1200 and think they are almost as good as a radial tire. I will know this summer Quote
