VietHorse Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 I 'd love to have a workshop to service all of my vehicles, but living in an apartment is difficult to do so. Going thru topics in VFRD, I saw quite numbers of very nice and well arranged workshops. May you please share with us how does your workshop looks like? How do you arrange all the tools and equipments, what are your recommendation, DOs or DONTs for a private workshop? Thank you. Quote
Member Contributer johnmark101 Posted August 21, 2011 Member Contributer Posted August 21, 2011 I have a small shop in my basement where I can comfortably work on the bikes year round. Quote
mello dude Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 ^^^ Nice.. That would be sweet! --- I have a cramped one car garage that shares space with a lawn tracker and the yard tools, not really photo worthy, but its enuff to set up one bike at a time to work on. Quote
VietHorse Posted August 21, 2011 Author Posted August 21, 2011 So nice and very well arranged workshop, Johnmark! Should you put on the walls some of your photos with your metal horses while riding or meeting with friends!? Quote
Member Contributer vfrcapn Posted August 21, 2011 Member Contributer Posted August 21, 2011 Workshop shares space with other miscellaneous items in the garage. The only tips I can offer are plan for electrical outlets and lighting, you'll need more than you think, and mount anything you can on a mobile base so you can move things around. Oh, and leave room for a mini-frig for the beer. Quote
VietHorse Posted August 21, 2011 Author Posted August 21, 2011 Multi-function workshop looks busy huh, vfrcapn! Is there any issue i.e. you are enjoying jogging and smell the oil and gas from a pending repair job? Quote
VietHorse Posted August 21, 2011 Author Posted August 21, 2011 (edited) This workshop belongs to Luvmyvfr, found in pic galery: hmm... workshop should have some photos like the calendar in the above workshop!! Edited August 21, 2011 by VietHorse Quote
Member Contributer spaceman Posted August 22, 2011 Member Contributer Posted August 22, 2011 Just built last month. Electricity going in next week. Insulation, heater, and small fridge going in later this fall. Quote
GMTURBO Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Mine is a mess. Between working on bikes, cars, house projects, too many damn tools and not enough of the ones I need. Quote

Amra1 Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Mine is a mess. Between working on bikes, cars, house projects, too many damn tools and not enough of the ones I need. +1 the only clean spot in my garage right now is in the beer fridege, and i plan on filling that spot tonight ... so i can empty it again Seriously it's not so much the space but having the right tools to do the job and the light to see your way, and the nice calander helps too Quote
Member Contributer SamW Posted August 23, 2011 Member Contributer Posted August 23, 2011 Sure, bring up garages so I can post how messy I can make mine in 1 year... Built this one last year, already need more space, or less toys... Quote

Earthshake Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I wish this was mine There's a house on Lake Norman north of Charlotte, NC similar to this that serves as a hangar. The guy opens the back of house, rolls his floatplane down the ramp and away he flies. Quote
MidTNJasonF Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 (edited) It was a real mess today since we were moving things around and cleaning. I had to take a picture though since I was 25 feet up on the sky lift hanging the new High Output florescent high bay lights. I replaced all the 400w Metal Halide lamp units with 6 bulb T5HO lights. This is about 1/4 to 1/3 of the shop. Edited August 24, 2011 by MidTNJasonF Quote
