Home as well after 1,200 miles. A great time had by all! Safe travels to all the other members still out on the road.

Lisa and myself are home safe and sound. Big thanks to Tony for an excellent event. Thanks to all the sponsors and members that put this together. And a big shout out to all the VFRD members that attended, putting names too the faces on the forum was just great. See y'all next time.

Thanks to you as well for the donations to the prize pool - the stem mounts were very popular!!

I had a great time, perfect weather, riding, and a lot of laughs. Awesome.

On my way home I was thinking to myself "I could do that all over again!!"

Another great SumSum meet. Didit once again presented the premier VFRD gathering. Of course, as CVVFR said.... it is the members of VFRD that make these gatherings great.

I rode to Montrose with a 780 mile blast from my home direct with a couple of sightseeing stops along the way.

We rode a really nice loop out to the Gateway Auto Museum for a nice tour Didit had arranged of the museum and lunch at a swanky resort.

The Kansas flag flew high during the meet. It would seem that some Canadians were disappointed there was no Maple Leaf present.

Unfortunately, I did have a slide on CO-96 at a gravel strewn right hand corner. The bike suffered some cosmetic damage, but somehow the mirrors, levers and bars survived and I was able to ride home.

I feel like I've went three rounds with a gorilla but I have no bruises, cuts or scrapes thanks to my gear (Aerostich suit, boots and gloves and Shoei helmet)

I was able to ride the bike home on a direct 780 mile straight-through blast with no issues.

I owe a debt of gratitude to Shade, CVVFR, ZiaVFR and didit for their care at the crash site. They checked me out medically, physically and mentally. Each of them assessed my motorcycle and me thoroughly before we moved forward. At the hotel all the VFRD members lent support and shared stories that helped me to feel better about my fall.

Great photos! Though definitely a bummer to go down, the good news was no injuries. It could happen to any of us. It was great that the bike could make it home under its own power. Glad you're home safely.

Here are some more photos of the area. I was remiss in not photographing the group - for whatever reason I did not have my phone much while we were all hanging around.

Getting ready for Wed's ride

The run down CO 141 through Gateway Canyon to the museum was fantastic - fun road, spectacular scenery.

Belfry's Cosmic Black '06 in the foreground. I love that color . . . especially in the sun!

20150819_135821_zpsdikl5ahn.jpg

The road follows the river through much of the canyon.

20150819_133713_zpssxejc8uu.jpg

Bikes lined up at the Gateway museum. They were very accommodating - gave us reserved parking and knocked $2 off the admission for the group (thanks to Tony for setting all that up!). The cars were all a 10 - something like 51 in all. Lunch was had there - great restaurant!

20150819_105007_zpsd5lwascm.jpg

The resort is an oasis in the middle of a barren but spectacular landscape.

20150819_131129_zpsgvu8j6sy.jpg

While there were no scheduled rides, we broke up in to smaller groups and went different directions. On Thurs. a number of us rode down US 550 (Million Dollar Highway) toward Durango. I don't recall seeing a guardrail the entire 100 miles of the route. This gives an idea of how, through various sections, the road is carved in to the canyon wall.

20150820_142313_zps6dnnikqo.jpg

There are various remnants of mining history along the highway.

20150820_140601_zpsvafq7p7f.jpg

Along the way the group split up - most returning to Durango to backtrack to Black Canyon for more twisties. Photos from that should be great! Belfry and I continued in to Durango to visit the Narrow Guage Railway museum ("D&SNG" refers to Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge). They have a train ride to Silverton by steam powered locomotive. It's about $100 for a full day on the train - by accounts there very popular, sometimes sold out days in advance.

The roundhouse workshop offers tours - wish we could have stayed to go through it.

20150820_113850_zpscs8h51sc.jpg

On the way back I detoured across western Utah on I-70 - it's marked as a scenic highway. While I normally don't like the interstate, this stretch to Salina, Utah did not disappoint. There is no gas between Green River (Jct US 6) and Salina - about 100 miles.

North of Salt Lake City some interesting history of how one of my favorite motorsports venues came to be.

Myself, Kanadian Kawasaki Kraig, and Mr. and Mrs. Axel 7 are safe and well in Kemmerer, Wy, after a beautiful stop in Moab.

Pics to follow when I get home. If you're on FB, you can see some on my profile.

Made it home to Albuquerque last evening after enjoying Ouray, Durango, and stopping to see friends at an SCCA Solo event in Farmington NM Saturday afternoon.

Tony did a GREAT job of organization and herding cats (VFRD members). Thanks to all the sponsors, donators, leaders, sweepers, and hotel staff.

Most of all thanks to all the attendees for being the best part of this event. What a great bunch of folks to hang out with!

I am looking forward to the chance to visit more events in the future with wild and crazy VFRD.

We get to do the LoLo pass again tomorrow, Orofino to Bigfork.

Woot! One of my favorites. Enjoy!

Major smoke on the LOLO, until you got up over the pass.

Heavy traffic from Polson going north, but we made it.

Heartily recommend the Timbers Motel in Bigfork MT.

Also, eat at Grille 459 in Bigfork, and have a Beltian Wheat (not a typo)

Brewed in Belt, MT. Mmm, Mmmm, good.

Leaving Angels Camp this AM, heading for Mt Shasta via Lasiter Park. Just over 1100 more miles to get home.

Fires in NE Wash making it challenging for the last leg on Fri.

Looking fwd to getting home and posting up pics and a SumSum summary video, with a great ending clip. It's hilarious!

Glacier Park tomorrow?

Naw, been there done that several times. It's slow going and lots of RV's on the GTS road.

We're going into southern BC and up the west side of the rockies to Golden, then through Yoho and up to Jasper the next day.
