Maybe better for a PM, but what do you mean machine the ducati axle? The triumph axle needs to get machined to move the wheel nut threads in the right spot, but I didn't think the Ducati axle did. I just bought a Ducati axle for cheap just to compare and see about saving machining hassle.

Gotta love reading a thread that ends so well. We all enter and leave this world in similar human fashion but motorcyclists get the in-between part as well or better than everyone else. The new bike is a great ending to this chapter as well as a great beginning to the next.

CC, give that kid of yours a big hug. He is a rare man in this generation if he exhibits the contrition you describe and take comfort in the realization that you taught him that. Take comfort that you taught him to wear the right gear. And take comfort that you took the risks to teach him one of the great experiences this life offers.

It is not the sole domain of VFR owners to have such a healthy mixture of irreverence and responsibility but it sure seems to run deep in this group.

Very sorry to hear about the 5th gen and very happy to hear about the new 5th gen. And even happier to hear you have a healthy, well adjusted family.

Got a place in Knoxville to stay if you need a room on the way home.

Not sure what has to be done when I had an axle from an 848 and my sons 5th gen in my hand they are different.

Was hoping to have mine apart this weekend but not in parts...will know more soon.

What Ducati axle are you using?

Thank you Kimball. I tried but like most functioning prefectionists I think I got as much wrong as I did right. I blame his mom for all of the good parts. I may pm you when I get ready to head up and bring it home.

You are more than welcome. Got my garage cycle shop set up, so cold beer and torque wrenches are in place if needed. I might even have some left over 5th gen parts lying around just in case.

Well, I got impatient (surprise surprise) and couldn't get my schedule to mesh with picking the bike before a-hoped-for-and-much-needed track day on March 16th so the seller turned me on to this site called Uship.com

I posted my details and started a 7 day auction for the shipment of my bike down from Cherry Hill, NJ. I was expecting to pay $110 for gas, hope the tires would make it, POSSIBLY a night in hotel (but with the great VFRD members out there probably not) and worry about uncertain weather.

The bidding for my bike to be shipped down started at $480 and fell for the first few days to about $380. With my scottish ancestry in firm control I decided that if the bidding wouldn't drop below $350 fees included I would just force my way up somehow and get it back down to ATL.

Last night i got a bid for $318.53 plus the Uship auction fee of $25.99 putting me all in for $344.52 so I accepted the bid and my Wolf-equiped 5th gen is being picked up in the morning between 830 and 10!!!

I have gps tracking of the shipment and the title with the spare key arrives tomorrow from FedEx. The carrier agreed to pick up the rear stand (shown in the pics), a box with all of the center stand parts in it, and a set of soft saddle bags for the same price. I passed on the sellers offer of a Givi touring windscreen so he will be selling that soon.

I am a little excited, not sure if the bike will arrive here Monday, Tuesday or sooner so probably no sleep for me. If any of you are tired I can take the first watch tonight.

Anyone interested in seeing pics of what he selling the VFR to purchase? Keep in mind he already has Ducati (749 I think) and has told me that he will probably buy another VFR one day ( a *cough* 6th gen *cough*) with hard bags to tour with his wife...oh, and he bought a BMW K bike and went riding with a friend, they swapped bikes (friend on a 5th gen) and he started kicking himself for the BMW purchase within 10 miles. That lead to his VFR purchase. Seems to be a good guy.

The V11 is supposed to hit NJ around the 7th I think...they are picking up my bike in about 11 hrs.

I keep checking the GPS progress but no one is moving....should I call and ask if they are sleeping? :goofy:

as a confirmed Guzzi guy (I have owned 6 and currently own one more), it hurts me to say this, but those V11s are junk. They routinely blow the ouput shaft seal, the electrics make our VFRs look like gibralter and there is an overall air of poorly built cheeziness. I hope I am wrong with this example, but I would stay away.

and tell that truck driver to call me when he gets close to DC. I'll give hime a lights and sirens escort through my area.

Hmmm, Uship? Isn't that the site that the TV show Shipping Wars uses? Maybe your bike will be on TV.

Keith - Sounds like a great deal. Just hoping that the shipping broker won't be using this type of method..........

I was actually texted some pics about two hours ago as the bike and assorted extras was being loaded (hopefully unlike the driver). The seller was a bit concerned that the carrier had little motorcycle transport experience.

regarding the stunna with the ladder in the back of the Lumina? Monte Carlo? a brake check across a set of reailroad trackes resulted in a broken rear glass so the "carrier" in question here took a sawzall to the back seat area and now my new 5th gen fits comfortably within the trunk/back seat area...

Also, side note, received the title and some maintenance records today. :woohoo:

Good luck with the transport...I'll be saying some prayers for a safe journey. Transporting motorcycles safely is hard work!

Is there really a reality show based on this site?
