Member Contributer hondalover Posted December 12, 2008 Member Contributer Share Posted December 12, 2008 I got my X-mas present to myself today. Santa came early in 2008 This shock sure is purty. Now I just need to figure out what front boingers I want to go with and get them on the way. I'm open to suggestions. And to anyone who got an Elka last go around, did the invoice have your spring rate on it, because I can't find the spring rate anywhere?

I got so excited I had to check the Super Group Buy (SGB) thread to see if you got it on that deal and you did. Mine should be here soon.. I am stoked. Ok.. where are you guys mounting up the remotes.

Ok... here is the deal... just order another of what you got right there and build yourself a BMW style Telelever front end around it. You're all set. You can thank me later. Is this going to help you go even faster? I can't keep up with you already.

This was a sweet deal, just (more than) a tad too rich for my budget this year. Maybe next time around. I can't wait for a ride report. enjoy, jim

I believe I paid for mine a day after you did. Perhaps it just takes longer to build a shock strong enough for my fat arse! :squid: For mine I was considering the Racetech springs and valves and also doing the work myself but I haven't totally decided. I've heard good stuff about a suspension place in Dallas that I may just take them too.
Member Contributer NVR2L8 Posted December 12, 2008 Member Contributer Share Posted December 12, 2008 I called John at Elka to get the rear spring rate, but I think Vlad (MotoWorld) should be able to help. In my case it turned out that I had too much rear sag, as I had slightly underestimated my total riding weight, plus in the confusion Elka installed one spring size smaller than my original estimate. Not a problem as Elka quickly shipped the right spring to a local shop who installed it for no charge. BTW, since I'm a commuter and tourer I just went with .81 springs and the gold compression valves from Race Tech for the fronts. Anyway, you're gonna love the new Elka rear shock...it's pretty nice!!!
Baileyrock
Nice! :wheel: But if your just going to look at it and take pics then send it to me! :squid:
Veefer Madness
And to anyone who got an Elka last go around, did the invoice have your spring rate on it, because I can't find the spring rate anywhere? Nope Mine just came already setup as per order. John or Vlad can probably tell you. :wheel: Ok.. where are you guys mounting up the remotes. Elka provides hardware to install on the left passenger rearward strut..... Since me no likey rear pegs, I did a chop job and tucked in real tight on the forward strut. :squid:
enzed_viffer
Sonic Springs for the win! But when you order them, be aware that (like Racetech) their spring rate calculator seems to have a race bias or summat, so order one rate lower. I ended up with 0.95kg/mm springs, and the calculator came out with the same rate even when I lowered my weight a bit. They're a bit too stiff, and overwhelm the dampers somewhat, so the front forks are off to a suspension specialist for an upgrade some time next year. SEBSPEED
It's easy to tell these shocks are made in Canada - the reservoirs look like little kegs!

Member Contributer Peto Posted December 15, 2008 Member Contributer Share Posted December 15, 2008 Call John to get your spring rate. Vlad couldn't help me. That thing is nice looking. I can't wait to get mine. NVR2L8: 0.81 Racetech? Did you mean 0.85 or 0.80 and how do they feel?

The Elk(a) and Bear fat blend shock fluid is made specially for the colder northern climes of the great white north. Viscosity changes with the weather, so no adjustments between seasons neccessary.
