Member Contributer Peto Posted December 16, 2008 Member Contributer Share Posted December 16, 2008 If it was me I would get the cap and be done with it. Maybe paint the cap frame grey, or even, chorme. If you want to get real fancy, have a machinist make you one out of stainless or aluminum. Also, you could install some kind of switch for something. I read on here about somebody doing a garage door opener in there...chris2992 I think...

SEBSPEED
Go to Walmart, in the camping section they have small 1" round compasses. Stick one of them in there, it's a poor man's GPS!
Joe Foe from Buffalo
The thermometer idea is a good idea...but Gen4's all ready have one in the dash board that is good enough for my needs. JZH a member from the VFR Mailing list sugested putting a bar end like one of these http://www.d2moto.com/Bar-Ends/Street in it that so far is the best idea to me. The garage door opener is a good idea also...but I all ready have one of these http://www.webbikeworld.com/t2/motofx/ that works when I turn my left turn signal on. Lee 2002
My brother has a convex mirror mounted there so that he can easily see the sky above him. I can't make this stuff up... he says that it makes it easier to spot airplanes. (I guess if you grew up in Kansas you would understand why this is important.) Beck
I discarded the cheap looking black plastic cap on my top triple clamp and replaced it with a bicycle handlebar end cap made by Cinelli. I just happen to have them lying around from my racing bicycle days. It looks really good with chrome finish and the Cinelli winged "C" logo embossed on it. you can just see it in this pic: MVC-010F.JPG Beck 95 VFR

The Volkswagen Passat of motorcycles... complete with electrical issues! :goofy: So Seb, I get it that you owned a "Pashat" too! One word to describe those cars....NASTY! What about one of those disposable rain onchos instead. You can roll it up to fit the steering tube with a cap over it and have it ready for emergencies. Just have to plug up the hole in the bottom or the first bump will eject it on to your front wheel fender. Beck 95 VFR Former VW B4 Pash#t owner! Joe Foe from Buffalo
LOL I like the umbrella idea. Please post details on which one to get. Beck :goofy: I like your idea...still have the other side and willing to part with it? Hmmmm? Maybe some one..... will step up and make a even better one. Beck please send or post details on the switch I see you installed for your heated grips as seen on this page http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/forum/uploads...5_20_390561.jpg I have been looking for a switch small enough to mount in that location and the passing high beam switch location for control of gadgets. So far, we've replaced a speed sensor, light bulbs, front and rear wiper motors, and washer fluid pump motor. At least the brakes work well. I dropped some cross drilled, slotted rotors with Mintex Red pads in it. :goofy:

Nearly everything electrical has failed at one time or other, and parts have simply fallen off for no discernable reason. The first month she had hers, it simply stopped running out in the wilderness somewhere in Canada while she and my brother were on vacation. Took forever to have it fixed. Had to rent a car to go home to Syracuse, then return to get the car when it was ready. Then it did the same thing twice more before they fixed it correctly. Needless to say, VW is off their list of future automobile purchases.
