Member Contributer Dutchy Posted July 22, 2020 Author Member Contributer Share Posted July 22, 2020 X-posted in maintenance section The front brake master on the 1994 4th gen/RC36-2 is fully seized. So either rebuild it completely, or go to the scrappies and score a used one... Which years/dels would be compatible?
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted July 22, 2020 Author Member Contributer Share Posted July 22, 2020 The farked brake master was obvious But what lurks beneath..... Once you stare into the abyss..... 😉 Collector box ripped at the seam Dashboard lighting no worky, so strip some more baby!!! (Sloppy/lazy hooking up 2nd headlight; will run that via a relay) Will be inspecting the "circuit board" later... Fuel pump relay was manky, good thing I kept redslut's. Fitted a longer bolt plus nut on the seat latch mechanism; it was in the process of doing a Free Willy impersonation Fitted a new Yuasa, let the engine run till hot. Did "The Drill" and she passed with flying colors Put the Givi Wingrack plus cases up for sale to offset expenditure.
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted July 23, 2020 Author Member Contributer Share Posted July 23, 2020 "I remember everything, as if it was only yesterday" The PO told me (some of) the dash lights weren't working. So stripped her down some more (aye, she's a slut alright..😎) and found one of the ground print tracks heavily corroded. As in "farked".... A bypass done, we can go for that homerun once more!!! Checked the bulbs for good measure, all good.

It's a very common master cylinder, given that there were many Hondas in the '90s with 296mm discs and two-pot calipers. OTOH, 12.7mm NISSIN m/c rebuild kits are plentiful, too, and then you'd know it was done right. Ciao, JZH
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted July 24, 2020 Author Member Contributer Share Posted July 24, 2020 Picked up a spare, for a fraction more than a rebuild kit. Next challenge..... The line is chock-a-block with thick muck.. It will not bodge at all, despite new pump TBC with a little aid....
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted July 24, 2020 Author Member Contributer Share Posted July 24, 2020 At least they are now clean from the outside. Before we tuck in.....
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted July 25, 2020 Author Member Contributer Share Posted July 25, 2020 Tried air pressures, brake cleaner, thin safety wire, but the hose stayed blocked near the section where the line splits. Gave up and ordered a set of HEL lines "because you're worth it...." Calipers were filled with sludge, so a clean was in order. Maybe should buy an ultrasone cleaner... Pistons are in good nick, as are the rubber seals. Reuse! Checked calve/tappet clearances, all good fir another 6-8000kms

Member Contributer Dutchy Posted July 27, 2020 Author Member Contributer Share Posted July 27, 2020 Yeah, the PO just left her idle for galf a decade.... Aplied some "Rustyco" to good effect in the past; will see in the morning if it did good on the muffler. It is a gel that eats away rust. Preventing from drying out increases effectiveness.... Member Contributer YoshiHNS Posted July 27, 2020 Member Contributer Share Posted July 27, 2020 I'd keep the GIVI rack if you could. I have a similar rack on my 5th gen, and it is awesome, but more importantly, irreplaceable.
