Sucks to see you selling your bike Pal. That things got your fingerprints all over it. Must have been a difficult decision and it can be hard to get someone to understand the effort and buck up.

Good luck and be sure to post up the next project.

Best,

Austin

Sorry to hear you are letting it go. On the plus side, many thanks for the parts I needed!

Hey fellers! Just saw these comments. Thanks for the support!

Turns out I'm keeping a hold of the bike so stay tuned for some updates in the coming months.

Thinking about going to an rc51 front end and some track minded goodies. It will be my first foray into track riding but it's something I really want to try. Finally gonna finish paint and powder and the undertail plus some other goodies so don't go anywhere! Likely will need some questions answered.

-Pal

Hey guys, just wanted to drop off some good news.

Back on this horse. Prepping for a mild version 2.0

Spent some time abroad and made a move to west Texas. Looking forward to 10 months of riding season a year.

Got some stuff on order.

Black renthal bars

Ducati diavel mirrors and clamps

Black Header wrap for the rear down manifolds (getting too hot down there near my electrical and brake line)

New 180/55/17 for the stock rear wheel

38mm tuner lugs in black for the rear studs

Oem radiator cap (to take care of leaky Chinese garbage cap)

New rc51 clutch master

Also going to paint match the rear wheel to the front

Painting the subframe with wrinkle black

Painting the rear brake caliper wrinkle black

Painting valve covers wrinkle black

Painting the engine case in wrinkle black on the right side

Painting the top triple in wrinkle black

Paint main frame

Also, the vinyl did not hold up that well so I'm going to take a stab at painting the tank and tail myself

Also, anyone know how to brake down a rear 954 shock? I'd like to paint the spring on it.

Undertail exhaust is major on the priority list but I'm having a hard time finding fabricators out here but will get that done post haste.

Stay tuned.

I have some extra black wheel lug nuts. If you want a set of 4, shoot me a PM.

Hey thanks for the offer. These are something I actually installed already. Got them off a guy I've bought stud kits from for my cars. Something like this.

I've got an extra clutch cover I've been thinking of sending to you for a window job. Are you still offering this service? They look so good

Here are some current and sorry pics of the bike.

Having brake fitment issues with the rear wheel so I'm going to be face mounting the waffle also wanted to downsize the aspect ratio of the rear tire so sold the 190/55 in favor of a 190/50.

Mounted this carbon fiber chain guard to protect the swinger a little. Need a prettier bolt but that was all I had on hand.

Also got the rad cap. It completely eliminated a leak I had from the old Chinese cap. The spring was about twice as firm.

post-28606-0-89807900-1424058501.jpg

Wrap has had a couple of weak points so I took it off in blemished places. It could have been fixed I think but I'm reworking the styling a little bit. It was a bit rushed and not super well thought out.

I plan to go with paint. My dad has an air gun so I may try my hand at my first time painting with one of those.

Got these in today. These mirrors are really slick. I got them for far less than a comparable quality aftermarket mirror would go for I figure. They are like new off a Diavel with 160 miles on it.

Can't wait to mount them.

Got a couple hours in today. Drained all the fluids and started tear down.

This bike comes apart so easy.

Also found this little tid bit. These sliders are off of the big yamaha (fjr1300?) and I was going to modify them to fit the upper engine mount thru bolt. But I discovered the bolt up directly and perfectly to the lower engine mount bolts. What a stroke of luck. I think I'll just run them this way.

Dont know if anyone is interested in hearing me ramble on haha but did some more work.

I seriously love this paint.

This texture might be the coolest stuff ever in my opinion.

Wanted an all stainless engine bolt set up but didn't want to pay the 130 bucks pro bolt wants. Made a trip to fastenall hardware and 35 bucks later had stainless for the engine cases, pcv block off plates, mirror clamps, rear slave mount and a few other places. Pretty happy honestly.

post-28606-0-38573100-1424490437.jpg

Also got the sub and top triple shot in it too. 2 coats of primer and 4 coats of wrinkle high heat. I hope it holds up well in lieu of powder until I have the extra funds and a finalized aesthetic in mind.

Bike is all but torn down.

Dang that looks great too. I decided to holhold off for the time being on the stator cover because it's in great shape and the whole bike is going to have a black Grey theme this time around.

I wrapped the rear downtubes to try and control the heat up under the subframe because of the rr and the electronics under there.

Also, how hard is taking off the choke from the starter? I want to clean up the controls and bars and have never used it even in MO when I was starting it in cold temps. Let alone in sunny west Texas.

Got the valve covers on. Waiting on a new clutch cover gasket so the right side can't be mounted yet D:

Otherwise, if you're not using this method for polishing up bolt heads yet, you need to start.

Just use a nut so as not to chew up your threads in the drill chuck.

Coat those bolts with something. They will rust rather quickly now that you've stripped the factory coating off.

Are these not stainless? I couldn't tell that there was a factory coating but then again I'm not sure there wasn't. Other than just engine and road filth there was no pitting rust, or otherwise oxidation on them so I figured they must be stainless but the could have just been the coating.

The covers certainly had the yellowing factory coating (called cosmoline in the bmw scene at least) prevalent in imported vehicles to protect them from ocean salts in the air during transport so maybe that was on the bolts too.

The bolts are not stainless, they have some type of electro-chem coating which is easily removed with sockets or wire brushing. Speaking from experience, unfortunately.

I doubt the motor had cosmoline on it. Cosmoline is a thick heavy grease that would drip and run off when the motor came up to temp.

It's like 30 degrees out here in west tx so I still haven't begun painting the frame. But I did get a new clutch cover gasket, mounted it, the rear down pipes and the rear brake. It's coming back together a bit at a time.

Been working on my brothers vstar classic doing a Bob job.

He got the kit from bluecollarbobbers.com and I have to say it was a very nice albeit pricey kit. I wouldn't be inclined to ride it in its stock for but it's gonna look pretty good in this incarnation I think.

post-28606-0-05476500-1425406652.jpg

Good news is it is 70 degrees here today so I taped off the frame and shot it.

post-28606-0-68709600-1425406490.jpg

Decided to do the main parts and leave the mount arms in alu. I don't know how much I like it but I think it might grow on me and it will flow well with the subframe.

In the end it's a band aid until version 3.0 where I can afford the time to strip it and powder all the things.
