I was going through my 5th gen parts and have several bars all marked 5th gen, BUT I discovered two variations of 5th gen bars???

I also found two different part numbers on Ron Ayers for both the bars and top tree!

I have two identical bars other than one has a OffSet locate Pin and the other a pin right in line with the bar?

Here's a pic(all pics are of a Right Hand bar).

The bar on the right has the locating pin directly in line with the bar and the one I am calling straight!

Take a look, I'm adding a 5th gen poll to find out who has what and the year of each type.

Your help and thoughts are appreciated!

Nicely spotted BR... hmmm I wonder why?

Anyway, I have a 98 with the offset.

Your poll is asking for more than 1 vote, unfortunately I only have 1 bike

Yeah, they did change them at one point, you're not seeing things.

I think the cat-equipped 5th gens were different from the non-cat versions.

Now why on earth they would change the handlebars is beyond me.

They also changed the clutch, the rear brake disc, the font on the instruments, blah blah blah.

Who's got what???

Whoa this is wacko - now I gotta go look..... The verdict is..... my pins are strait down the centerline across the triples.

Learn something new everyday. My bike is a '98.

Hey BR.....The offset bars might also be 4th gens. Check to see if bar heights are the same. 4ths are about a bar diameter lower. ---- I intalled 4th gen bars on my 5th.

btw- dunno what it is but the survey wont let me vote.....

I bought a set of '98 bars to put on my 4th GEN. They are the "inline" ones which look to fit perfectly on my '97-won't even have to grind off the locator nub.

If they don't maybe I can 'trade' for a set of the "offset" ones. Anyone know which of these works best on a 4th GEN?

Good catch on this, Kevin.

I have to check mine. I have a 00 whit the H.I.S.S system, might be that that made differens in the top tre, as the key look/ignission look are bigger on 00 on whit the H.I.S.S.

OK there are 98-99's with both the straight & OffSeen bars on them??? :491:

I have no idea how to figure this out?

These two bars are identical in every way except pin location! People mentioned 4th gen bike's/bars here, are the angle, shape & lenght all identical to a 5th gen bar or what?

Sir,

The 5th Gen I have are about a 1/2 in. higher than the stock 4th Gen bars. (which is why I got 'em) The pins on the 5th gens LOOK to be in the same place as the 4th. Hope this helps.

99 - Offset

Thanks! :fing02:

'98 INLINE. Looks to be a direct replacement for my 4th gen except 1/2 in higher.
