VFR800P Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Thank You for accepting me. I recently bought a two-decade-old Honda VFR800P (yes, RC49!) as my first bike. Since it's a bit mature, I plan to have it refreshed to ensure its road worthiness before it hits the long road. I'm super excited about this as this is also my first big bike. Based on my initial research, there are peculiar specs found only in RC49, and I hope it will not be a challenge for me to complete the process. I plan to create a new topic to cover its refresh/ restoration process. Any thoughts/ insights from all the members will be much appreciated. Stay safe and ride safe! (attaching some pictures for the appreciation of everyone) 4 Quote
Member Contributer Bren Posted July 14, 2022 Member Contributer Posted July 14, 2022 Greetings! You're in the right place here and I think there'll be a lot of interest in your bike. I see an ABS ring on the front, I wonder.....🤔 Also that dash is very cool! Does it have Bluetooth to connect a phone? I see a "call" button. Why 2 speedos? One for a radar to catch speeders? Digital rev counter, gear indicator and speed 😋 Quote
Member Contributer bmart Posted July 14, 2022 Member Contributer Posted July 14, 2022 Looks like a former police bike, perhaps? Keep us in the loop! Quote

As indicated by the “P” and RC49. GF is from San Policarpio. Still has a waterfront home on the beach, over there. I’ve never been, but, hoping to get a chance to visit and possibly think about part-/full-time residency, depending on how things go. It definitely be a lot cheaper than Florida, USA. Quote

I guess San Policarpio is in Samar Region? Definitely cheaper for a day to day cost compared to the states. Quote

I'll update once from time to time. RS! 1 Quote

Check out the Japanese police on you tube doing their competitions, shows what you can do on these things. One of the kmh speedos has a red frame around it so I assume its for a radar to tell the rider someone's speeding. Maybe blinks when the radar registers a speeder? But would then need to know what the speed limit for that particular road would be! Speculation on my part though. There is something missing from that bracket by the ABS ring, no idea but someone with more knowledge will know. Standard screen doesn't look like it'll fit, again speculation. Have the front fairings been repainted or replaced with standard? Pity the front crash bars and the panniers are missing, would have finished it off. I like it 👌 And the m-stop button on the dash, motor stop or am I being a simple idiot? Edited July 14, 2022 by Bren More questions! Quote

VFR800P Posted October 4, 2022 Author Posted October 4, 2022 Updates on this beauty! Off to the repair shop. notice the stock crash guards he is holding? Apparently, air filter is missing! V4! Radio box. need to replace the battery below parts are for powder coating (pearl white) done with the rims. new tires as well. I opted for Pilot Street Radial as I have inadequate budget for the Road 6. Next update will be on the refreshed engine and some cosmetics. Thanks! 3 Quote

Other Plans: * Change stock exhaust to a lighter one - any recommendations? * Passenger Foot Pegs * Dashboard - if I can find one from RC46. 2 Quote

I still have a few things going on with the bike. I removed the stock exhaust to minimize the weight. I'm just 5 foot 5 and 70 kilos so i need to shave off some weight. I think the lever also needs to be changed. Quote
VFR800P Posted January 24, 2023 Author Posted January 24, 2023 Btw, I'm looking for a repair manual specifically for RC49. I saw one from an online auction in Japan but it's a bit pricey ($130). Hope someone from here can lead me to a source with a much cheaper price. Thank You all! ride safe Quote
