Dutchy is close. Here we use decorative cotton to give the illusion that it's cold here. Keeps out the riffraff.

I love my LED lights. I can tell I'm much more conspicuous, whether coming up to traffic from behind or facing traffic. I do not get flashed by oncomming traffic. And the brights! Amazing coverage; and quite white. I've also mounted fork LEDs (short distance ahead and broad side to side). I used to hate the unlit inside of corners at night. Now I can see the inside of a curve twenty meters to the side. The "L" brackets I had made by a local shop allow my to adjust up and down and side to side.

I've had angled valve stems for a long time. Never an issue and they've held air pressure well. I do use metal caps and high quality valve inserts.

Speaking of key fobs here is my version. I'd be interested in having your friend make a better version of this one. Would he be willing to do that?

Yes, I'm pretty sure that's the one. The "goat trail" going north led eventually directly into the town of Noxon. Although I thought I could see a bridge across the reservoir just a little way south of where I camped. But I've found my TBI'd brain is not always reliable. While I made it to Noxon on my fifth gen, the trail really calls for an adventure style mc. Y'all have been warned. (hehe)

I was headed to the PNW meet-up in Nelson, BC. The Noxon Reservoir is in far western Montana. The camp ground is on the west side, somewhere between Thompson Falls and Noxon, MT. My memory is quite foggie about exactly where but it may be the Marten Creek Campground. The campground had no fees or people. Montana highway 200 is on the east side of the reservoir. There is a bridge across the res from the closest local town to the south east of the campground. Another view:

Check out this guy for that rock solid in the turns experience: http://daughertymotorsports.com/ He upgraded my forks and installed a rebuilt high-quality rear shock for about $1,000. Transformed the experience! Steering now is nearly telepathic. He set it up for my weight and riding style. Set the sag, rebound, etc. Being retired with lots of time on my hands hauled my fifth gen to him Indianana, but I believe you can send him your parts or he'll send you the things to DIY.

That would be a traumatic experience for most, including me. Perhaps I'd been lucky. But practice can bring knowledge and confidence.

Petarm, welcome to the asylum. We'd love to see a picture of your machine to prove you are not a figment of our imagination. May I suggest you check your steering head bearings. Every one of my five fifth gens needed them, some with as little as 25,000 miles on the odo. Replace with tapered roller bearings. To check them, with the bike on the centerstand and the front end off the ground (I put a foundation brick on my pillion) slowly move the forks from lock to lock. If you detect a detent in the center, the bearing are shot. Good luck with your R&R and ride safe.

I have always used the cup/cap type for installation and removal of Honda oil filters on my fifth gens. I can use an extension on my ratchet that fits into the square hole on the filter cap. I can feed the extension between the exhaust header from the front wheel well back toward the cap. I take great care to not over tighten. The cap can be rather loose so I really appreciate the tip to use a rag in the cup to take up the slack. Thanks HughJebolzak!

I have to say, in my getting lost travels, I've ridden lots of gravel roads and it did not take long to get over the reluctance to do it. There have been some gravel that turned to imbedded soccer-ball sized rocks. But, undeterred, I learned how to ride standing up and looking further into the distance to pick a general path, avoiding the really big ones. The tires did great, my knees got a workout, and no bad results. It was first gear for miles on end. There was one road from Cedar City, UT to a back enterance to Zion National Park passing near Brians Head, labeled "closed in winter" that became a first-gear-for-miles road but, Holy Socks, what views I had of that other-worldly geology. Bottom line: gravel can be great. edit: I realized this is a picture thread, but I got no picks. Sorry. re-edit: I now recall where the incident in my first paragraph happened. I was riding up the west side of the Noxon Reservoir after camping in the most secluded public campground I'd ever used. Tarmac to the campground and part of the way north. Then deteriorated to a wide "goat trail". This pic is from the campground:

I think there is a short metal backing piece under the chain guard, nearly impossible to see or reach into which the screw goes. I'll have to go out and have another look but I remember having a heck of a time getting that attached in the past. I'll update later.
