Member Contributer Dutchy Posted August 19, 2015 Author Member Contributer Posted August 19, 2015 If all goes as planned, the cavalry will arrive to save the day. In the mean time, 10 euros worth of Holts Gun Gum tape and paste filled the gap. Yes that is my creme brulee torch doubling up to warm the muffler :-) Quote
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted August 28, 2015 Author Member Contributer Posted August 28, 2015 For the record.... The oem rear shock holds 350cc of oil. Will put fresh oil in and either sell or keep it Quote
timmythecop Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Leon, you cannot give those shocks away. I have 4 of them. BTW, i did not send you a bin storage cabinet, but re used the box. One of many Quote
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted August 28, 2015 Author Member Contributer Posted August 28, 2015 No worries on the boxes, good thing you did not use 9MM ammo boxes..... imagine Dutch customs having kittens when they spot those.... Quote

Member Contributer Dutchy Posted August 29, 2015 Author Member Contributer Posted August 29, 2015 Yes is does, but getting fresh oil in is a bit more work. My shop manual has a procedure but it requires a press to compress the shock. Am riding now, eating ice cream in fact. :-) Quote
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted September 2, 2015 Author Member Contributer Posted September 2, 2015 The Tubes................. Near the rear brake pedal, 3 tubes hang down, one of which is capped (sorry for the crappy pic) what is this? some overflow from the airbox? Should I take the cap of to let out some crap? Oh yeah, The Tubes! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kP8nGNbk7oQ Nina Hagen liked it a lot... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWzPcDtZZZo Quote
keny Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 (edited) The thin black is battery breather, the one whit a black cap is engine breather/waste pipe, and yes you can, as should let the water/oil mix out of there, just yurn the blug whit a canister below. The other big go to the coolant system. Edited September 3, 2015 by keny Quote
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted September 3, 2015 Author Member Contributer Posted September 3, 2015 Inspecting the fuel tap, I realised that fitting the vacuum hose to the little fuel drain is not clever.... It also found that the repair kit "fits vf500f2" will not. It is way smaller.. The new smaller diaphram is very flat whereas the oem one is is a "hat" shape. No holes or tears. So is this one eol or is this normal? According to the manual, there should be a small siff/filter inside but it is not there. There was a tiny bit of crap inside the cap that is screwed on at the bottom. Worth getting one or adding an inline fuel filter? Quote
timmythecop Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 The petcock is the achilles heel on this bike. There us a bix box headed your way with a rebuildable one in it. Quote

Member Contributer InvisibleCities Posted September 3, 2015 Member Contributer Posted September 3, 2015 Hope this is of some help with the petcock - the '86 is different (larger) than the '84/'85, here in the US, so not sure these will work for you. Good luck! Quote

VFRBert Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Use fosforic acid for removing rust. Works better. The working part in coke is strongly diluted fosforic acid. The stuff is sold in Holland as Rustyco. http://www.rustyco.nl/ Quote
Member Contributer Rush2112 Posted September 5, 2015 Member Contributer Posted September 5, 2015 The pH (acidity) of Coca-Cola is about the same as white vinegar or citric acid in lemon juice ~2.2 - 2.4... as VFRBert said it is dilute phosphoric acid. Acid reverses (technically, it's called reduction) the oxidation of the metal that results in "rust". Use something made for the task of rust removal like he suggests or try the vinegar... you won't have the sugar, caramel, flavorings, etc. to deal with like you would with Coke. Quote
