  1. Bike stripped. -- I was soooooo tempted to unbolt the frame and tear into the engine. 4 or 5 bolts and the engine would be sitting on the jack.
  2. This shield mod is really born out of consern for my $900 Penske shock. It sits kinda close to the headers. So I heat shield wrapped the headers, and then to try to blead some more heat away, I thought a few holes in the heat sheild may help. I thought it would help the looks of a dull part too. Dont know if it doest or doesnt work. Anyhoo I dont feel any extra heat at the footpegs at my boots.
  3. Mine sounds awesome as well, but it is loud. I wish I could find some kind of insert for it to tone it down a bit. -- I do like it a lot. The oval shape hugs the bike and look compact. And carbon fibre is da bomb! I'll never go back to an aluminum or titanium pipe if I dont have too.
  4. It was nice with this setup that I could cram the plate and lite high up on the fender. It made for a nice neat fender chop job.
  5. The superhawk stock fender will not fit since the vfr has a wider stance for the forks in the triple trees. So I went thru a lot of trouble to keep the stocker viffer fender. Maybe there is a simpler cheaper solution, but I was looking to keep the bike's stocker look.
  6. I have screwed around with different screens on different bikes (I hate turbulence) and the main thing I can conclude from all these gyrations is that there is an optimum speed zone where a certain set up works best and its then a compromise in other areas. So you have to choose what you are looking for and semi tune for that, and then see if the other speeds are ok for you to live with. That's why a DB is the bomb for one guy and garbage for another rider. - Just my 2 cents....
  7. I think 5th gen is 2 row, and 6th gen, a 3 row. -- Veefer800Canuck installed a 2nd gen 3 row on his 5th gen, dunno if he's still running it.
  8. Which Rotella? I prefer the Rotella T6 to the Auto Mobil 1 I was running. M1 4T is Mobils motorcycle specific oil. Been running it for years.
  9. RC51 master cylinder with GSXR 1000 Reservoir with hand fabbed bracket to get the thing down and outta my face.(The gixxer res sits lower than the stocker RC51 res and bracket) -- Flat black paint to kill the urine cup look. Nice set up - works very nice.
  10. I must have missed the previous post on this. So what does it do? Does it assume you have the stock fan blade? Thanks
  11. While more expensive, I also like the idea of machined triples maintaining the stock geometry.
  12. Pete, Pics will come when I have the piece finished to my satisfaction. Sending PM regarding 2. Still fooling with that thing? I wondered what happened to ya... Just was curious... MD
  13. This -- http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oils/Mobil1_Racing_4T_10W-40.aspx - Something else - dunno if I would use Dex-cool in your bike. md
  14. What did you give for those? md
  15. I'm interested to see how your PCV works/goes together on your '98. Keep updating... Thxzz MD
  16. I would say the pyramid plastics hugger on my 5th gen. It didnt mount up all that straight and hit the tire sometimes. To get a handle on it, I cut about 7 inches off the thing so that the tire coverage is about half. Still does the job of keeping crud off the shock, and doesnt bounce around like it used to. More better funtionally, but not much on esthetics. MD
  17. I'm glad this thread was re-bumped as I'm sure a good few of us are drooling at the prospect of future fork it swap. I didnt catch the excell spreadsheet last time I read the thread - well now I downloaded it and saved it in my bike tech folder. The sheet deserves a "Holy shit!". Very cool. Hey VFR800R - How's things going for ya? MD
  18. So how much a difference did it make when you fired it up? - I got a carbon pipe I need to do this with. (Great photos and post.) MD
  19. I am just a spectator for this but - Very cool! - -- I am amazed by all the technical talent we have on this web site....... MD
  20. Unscientific guestimate of delinking work - ditch the stock calipers and replace with RC51 calipers, then junking lines and proportioning valve, and going single line to rear caliper; - 4 1/2 pounds unsprung off the front forks/wheel... - 2 pounds -lines and prop valve... Rough stand on scale, with gear without gear etc... MD
  21. Glad your ok dude. - That's terrible about the bike! MD
  22. I've been calling "straight" --- the pin and the bar clamp cutout go across the centerline of the the forks - the left pic. Offset to me is the pin and the bar clamp cutout is "offset" or about 75 degrees in relation to each other or the pic on the right. Is that what everbody else has been saying? Anyhoo mines the one on the left. MD
  23. If you want to go up in viscosity - go up on the the top end like 10w - 50. The first number is about vis at cold temp, the second is about the hot temp. (There is a specific temp each end supposed to be tested, but escapes me for the moment.) MD
