Custom Bike Project (Gen5 Engine) Need Help Getting It To Start
The Phantom replied to Spraintz's topic in Electrical
Wild looking bike. Good on you for taking a different path with your build! There's been some abominations over the years where people have tried to take VF/VFRs down this path, but yours works! Post some more pics please... what's the set-up for cooling? Have you tested the fuel pump itself? -

This is Kirby's run on the BMW. The rider in the hi-vis vest is Cam Donald. He passes zRoYz in this vid but not sure if it's the session your bro went down in - I don't think it is. -
That's very nice!

Yep I agree with that John. Metallurgy these days is light years ahead of that of twenty years ago The '525' refers to the width of the chain (distance between plates). The pitch of the chain is the distance between link pins, centre to centre, and on all modern roadbikes it is 5/8". I reckon you could run a modern 520 on a VFR with decent longevity, as long as your VFR wasn't a full-boat tourer that you were giving the herbs all the time. And it's not just the overall weight reduction that it would give - it also reduces unsprung weight (more responsive suspension) and centripetal weight (better acceleration).

I'm pretty sure that either he or Kirby has a video of the crash, will check. -
U-Crating Of A Rc213V-S Video With Brief Startup Sound
The Phantom replied to windyrun's question in RC 213
That was pretty awesome to see - thanks MCN and the owner for showing us that. Honda used to have a HRC paint scheme for each racebike model, but they seem to have gone to the same look they use for official practice with this one - which in my opinion adds that little extra cachet to the bike. Not that it needs it. I was at Phillip Island when a dude rolled up with a Desmosedici and proceeded to ride the piss out of it until it shut down - at which point he got his 1198 out of his van and continued on that. So I reckon we'll see one of these puppies on track at some point in time. If I win Lotto I guess I now have to buy an NR AND an RC213V-S. I suppose the RC would be the Sunday morning 3-5 hour fanger bike, and the NR would be the "off to Phillip Island for the annual 5000km return MotoGP tour" bike. Man I'd feel like Casey Stoner... until I realised that I'm not waking up next to the lovely Adriana :) -

Keef I believe zRoYz had to hit the anchors pretty hard when your brother went down so as to not go with him. Good stuff StormShadow2, great work for first trackday -
Lane Splitting Petition In All 50 United States
The Phantom replied to whiteknuckles's topic in Seventh Generation VFR's
Three cars. LOL... Ciao, Yep. "You're doing it wrong" Aussies pretty much all do it, and it's just been legalised in a number of states (but only legal if traffic is moving under 30km/h). 98% of drivers aren't really bothered by it. You quickly learn to spot the ones who are, but it's rarely an issue. -
Kawasaki airbox will be shaped for an inline 4 bank of carbs. You will probably have to mod the tank.

^ Very interesting. I went with the Heavy Duty spring option when I fitted my Barnett Kevlar clutch kit (at 80,000km - 50,000m) and I noticed no additional lever effort - but then again I also drained and refilled the clutch hydraulic system, and fixed a corrosion problem on the slave piston. So perhaps the hydraulic system was better. Regardless, I would not call the lever effort particularly arduous. I did notice that the bike hooked up better off the line with the Barnett clutch - it would try to wheelie in first gear. It never came close to doing that prior to the clutch replacement. Back to the clutch basket - as per a separate topic, the basket is identical for 1886 to 1997 VFRs.
-
Great post Terry. I put a Barnett kevlar clutchpack into mine at 80k. There were noticable marks on the tangs of the clutch basket but I didn't bother cleaning them up, and the clutch felt great on re-assembly - put another 15k on it without issue. While you are at it - it's worth cleaning up the slave cylinder, and while you are doing that, drain and clean the master cylinder.

You need 45mm bars, VTR1000F and Blackbird are 43mm. 2003 CBR600RR bars might work, I think they were 45mm (the model before they went to USD forks).
-
Nice result! Definitely not a Friday bike, then. Terrific torque gain at just over 6k - where you really want it.

'86 Clutch Pack Fit A '90?
The Phantom replied to BluRoad's topic in Third and Fourth Generation VFR's
I'm pretty sure I looked into this years ago, and the Honda part number is exactly the same for clutch basket from 1986 to 1997. -
Welcome mate. Looking forward to the video of the top speed run on the Sturt

Forks are of larger diameter, so you'd have to swap the triples too (bolt-in) - then sort out the linked brakes, as in de-link them. The shock will probably go straight in to a 2000. As a data point - 5th Gen 800 shares rear sprocket mounting dimensions with 3rd and 4th Gen 750, but 6th Gen 800 has different rear sprocket PCD.

Years ago the OzVFR crew looked into buying a set of moulds to make 4th Gen bodywork. The company who owned them was shutting down and selling dozens of mould sets. Sounds like a goldmine, right? Nope. For starters the moulds had been taken off genuine 4th Gen panels, which sounds terrific - until you learn that the stickers weren't even removed before the moulds were taken from the panels. And the kicker - moulds have a limited lifespan, as few as a dozen panels can be taken from a single mould before it is cactus. We weren't even interested in making money out of it, we just wanted a cheap source of panels. But it would not have worked out to be cheap. Following on from that - Ken, I've been floating around various VFR internet sites since 1999. I've given a LOT of thought to NR rep bodywork. I even started making my own from existing 4th Gen panels (still kicking around in a box somewhere). It's a tough gig, and I can almost count on one hand the number of people who have asked the same question as you since I joined VFRD in 2003. In short, it's one for the true enthusiast. We have a few recent NR bodywork topics here, though. http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/forum/index.php/topic/74810-vnr-wtf-nr750-replica/?hl=nr750 The topic on Adrian's NR rep: http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/forum/index.php/topic/28931-the-adrians-bike-painting-nr-replica/?hl=nr750 And a previous NR rep topic: http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/forum/index.php/topic/72204-nr750-replica/?hl=nr750

Awesome effort! To answer your question, you might have come within 4mph of setting a record: http://www.webbikeworld.com/BMW-motorcycles/bmw-bonneville-record.htm However - you, and your home workshop, versus BMW the factory. Hold your head up high, soldier :smile2: Because that BMW would have been blueprinted and fettled from the factory floor and had the best of everything between its birth and its run on the salt.

An Australian company did some cam work for early V4s (VF750). An old VFRD topic that touches on this (I never did look into it any further): http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/forum/index.php/topic/63059-camshaft-specs/ Here's the spec from the VF750 page.
