  1. The way to tell with the R/R is to first repair the connector. Then check charging voltage across the battery to see what you have. If that's good the R/R is likely fine. My 6th gen stator looked like it had been BBQ'd at 18,000 miles. It tested good and I was getting good charge voltage, but its days were numbered, so as long as I had it out I replaced it. Difficult to tell with stators - the good die young - but some go close to 50,000 miles with no problem. My decision was easy as I often ride in remote areas far from home and cannot afford that kind of failure where there is no help.
  2. Go to the electrical section under Forums, read the pinned posts and follow the threads - they'll guide you through what to do.
  3. I'll be interested to see if someone does a 5th gen to 8th gen engine swap. It shouldn't be much different than going 5th to 6th . . . That would really be telling Honda something . . . owners swapping 15 year old engines in to their new bikes.
  4. So in using the GXSR grommets on the VTEC coil packs, how did you secure them to the 5th gen valve covers? Which GXSR coils did you get?
  5. I paid just a wee bit more than that, unfortunately. Seller got me at the right time... needed it now. You paid a fair price. I paid $325 for mine. I would venture that about $250 to $275 is the low end for a decent one and about $400 for a really nice one that does not need refinishing. I saw another on ebay a few months ago from a '92 that had a bit of rash on the lip that sold for $599! Ya just never know what's going to pop up and what's going to sell.
  6. Never understood why they mark ads "Sold" rather than just removing the listing. As an aside, there was a nice 8 spoke that sold on ebay a couple of weeks ago for $50. It must have been a "buy it now" price. Ah well - some of us get lucky!

Nice looking seat. Where did you get it? Great photo BTW.
  8. Nice to see a first gen featured!
  9. If you're in the single nut club, you can still have kids . . . so plan accordingly.
  10. This bike should be in the Barber Motorsports Museum. It's mechanical art - just beautiful.

Looks like a calendar candidate to me!
  13. Get a tube of Oxgard while you're at it and treat all the connectors and grounds. It keeps 'em happy.
  14. Is the material he's using Delrin? If so, it might be all right as it's extremely tough material. They make the wheels for skateboards and inline skates from it.
  15. Maybe give Fry's Electronics a try - they've got just about any electronic part.
  16. Not likely. Check out SumSum III thread instead.

    VFR with Corvette

    1961 Vette? Nice shot!
  18. I use Oxgard on my connectors. Every winter whilst doing maintenance I make it a point to inspect the critical connections to be sure all is well. Everything's still looking good.
  19. Can't find this one, does anyone have the link. Search for "vfr rim" and then sort by newly listed. It's still there as I write - listed on April 2nd.
  20. There's another one on there now that's been there for a while - for $375, but the seller is not offering shipping - local pickup only. It's in Bradford, Ontario.
  21. I did the same on my stator replacement over the winter. I have some 24" long zip ties I got at Harbor Freight. IIRC I got a pack of 10 for under $2. They're long enough and just rigid enough while still being flexible to be able to fish one through to the other side. Once it came out I tied the wire to the zip tie and pulled it through. I wasn't using the factory connector though, so I might have gotten it through where otherwise you would not. Interestingly, in the 6th gen FSM it does not specify removing anything to remove the wire, however the installation instructions say "replace the throttle body", so apparently Honda intends for that to be removed to replace the stator. I doubt many ever remove the TB to get the wire across, but if you really get stuck that's what you may end up doing.
