Seeing that reminds me of when I brought my 4th gen home (25 years ago) and how beautifully made they are. I wish I still had mine, but it was sold to purchase my 5th gen and after I sold it, the owner took it to Texas and totaled it. 😞 The mid 90's was the apex of Honda build quality. Even after all these years that bike still looks wonderful. While the engine is fantastic - linear power delivery and a delicious sound, the one thing I found lacking in my 4th gen was the suspension, particularly the front. For my 190 pounds it was under sprung and under damped. If I could do just one mod on a 4th gen it would be an exhaust, but suspension would be right behind it on the list. Those bikes grow on you as the years go by and you'll surely get years of miles (well, ok - km) and smiles out it!

That is so true - and the devaluation of most Western currencies is shifting in to high gear. Here, with labor in short supply, prices for personal services are skyrocketing - hair cut, clothing alteration, plumber, furnace service, landscape service - pretty much name it - in some cases are doubling. The US is printing literally trillions in US$ that they do not have which ultimately devalues what people have and earn. I had never thought of bike design in those terms, but it has intellectual appeal that it's what's happening. Sure is a different world than when I (and probably most of us) began riding.

This was "recommended" for me on youtube, and recognizing the profile of the bike I took the click bait. It looks to me as though this performer does remakes of popular music - plenty of people on youtube doing that. I'm guessing it was shot in continental Europe someplace (not UK) - the road signage and the speedo being calibrated in KM were a couple of things leading me to that idea. Anyway, at about the 1:00 mark when she climbs on there seems to be a dis-connect to me like she's unsure - not confident, as though she was thinking "now what is it they told me these buttons and levers do?" You don't see her actually ride away on it - only later views that are inconclusive of who's riding. Later through it I would have rather heard that Devil exhaust going under the bridge vs the music - I guess I am hard-core-V4! At the end she's rolling the throttle after she stops - yeah - like the rest, she just wants to listen to those GCC's!! Anyway - this is the only music video I know of featuring a 3rd gen . . . anyone here know who it belongs to? I like the black / white color scheme on it. Damn I'd like to own one! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnl133-p-ak

This sure is an unusual and I'm sure frustrating problem. The best I can do is like Grum and wish you the best with it. And +1 on letting us know how it goes.

I have a hard time envisioning that there will be an NT1100 forum where owners will be excitedly swapping parts and doing mods. This bike will probably end up as a sub category to the A.T. forums - neither fish nor fowl - sort of a stepchild no one knows what to do with. One thing for sure - no one is gong to pull up on one and have onlookers ask "is that a Ducati?"

Sigh . . . sign of the times. Is this segment now "Adventure Touring"? Apparently they all have to look like that. Well, maybe they'll sell, I guess we'll see. There won't be one in my garage sorry to say. I feel like it's 2010 again, saying to Honda "hey, what we really want is . . . " but clearly that's falling on deaf ears. The market has moved on and I have not. Best to them - fortunately there are enough spares both new and from bikes to pick off of to keep what I have going a good long time. YMMV

I'm not seeing a center stand - not a Deluxe? Keep in mind that a shorter can may have a raspier note or tone than a longer can. To each their own. The only context I can offer was last year before the lockdown a local dealer had a 2014 in red with just about every accessory offered for 8th gens - full luggage / top case, hugger, Deluxe, bar risers, custom seat, power outlet for heated gear, lowered pegs - the works. Had about 6,000 miles. Asking price was $8,500. I almost bot it, but just don't have the space for a 3rd bike.

Well, maybe he clocked you and you still hadn't exceeded the speed limit. He probably figured it was punishment enough for you to get home and have to clean your riding gear! LOL!

The only way to truly know if a wheel is in spec is with a stand and dial micrometer checking both runout and being perfectly circular. A stand can be made using something like a Marc Parnes balancer or similar.

May I ask where those were sourced?

New 5th/6th/8th gen performance header now in production in USA
Cogswell replied to sfdownhill's topic in Exhaust Systems
Not here. Actually if they were not cut off at all I'd probably be fine with it. It's easier to remove material than to add more. FWIW I have Remus cans and midpipe. Each brand / type is probably somewhat different. I'd thought about moving these to my G5 once the 8th headers go on to accommodate other mods, but it's not clear to me that they'll fit up to the G5 midpipe / can having been cut. Who knows - maybe I'll be in for a G5 set if another batch is run. -
I've thought about doing that, but have wondered about rotor wear. Is there any anecdotal long term experience if it's the same / similar as with OEM pads?

IIRC Motoport Kevlar is the only textile approved for track use. The stitching used is Kevlar thread as well. The trouble with nylon is that in a slide it can melt and bond to the skin. No bueno. The Motoport armor is substantial. Maybe a bit bulky, but I'm used to it now and would undoubtedly be glad to have it in a get off. Another thing about the Kevlar besides being super tough is that it has some stretch which helps it conform to the rider. It's not particularly stylish, but I value protection ahead of that. The pants have a long zip on the R leg, easy on / off. As for rain, I have only worn it in a shower a few times (I don't like riding in rain), but from that limited experience I would say that in steady rain it would be best to be wearing the liner jacket / pants. Once wet it dries quickly. There is a waterproofing spray that can be applied - no idea how well it works.

Don't know about the Klim. I do have a Motoport Kevlar 2 piece zip together. They're made to measure and will customize armor, reflective pieces and other details. IIRC it was about $1,200 (maybe a bit more) when I got it. Thankfully I've never put it to the test, but it has worn like iron over 8 years and about 30,000 miles - still going with no end in sight.

Personally I see nothing wrong with some artistic interpretation. Below is how Rob executed the same concept on his Gen 5. I had never thought of whether it was the same as the Honda wing logo despite having seen it in person numerous times. I just thought it looked good. I even see some Gen 4 in the way he painted the fairing lowers - looks like the belly pan on a 4th gen.

Looking at the rendering vs a profile photo of an AT, it does seem like the seating is less upright, maybe lower seat height / ground clearance, less suspension travel and obviously cast vs spoke wheels - not surprising. Maybe more or less like the VFR800 / Crossrunner and VFR1200 / Crosstourer. Highly similar but different. Regardless, it would seem that if one wants a full fairing bike from Honda in that segment you're out of luck. Still just baffles me how Honda missed that a liter displacement in the VFR formula is what most of us wanted. Somehow I just have not warmed to the industrial look. Apparently though that's what the market wants. It will indeed be interesting to see one in person.

Front wheels from 1998 through 2009 (in the US) are the same, so one from any of those years will work. I bought a second set of wheels off Ebay (one at a time) and the front wheel I got had blemished paint (like some sort of solvent had been spilled on it that ruined the paint) but was otherwise perfect and came with a set of ABS rotors. I got if for $80, so deals can be had. But you are correct - ebay ads will say the wheel is "straight", but when you get it it wobbles or has other problems - in some ways it's the luck of the draw. I doubt most sellers actually put the wheel on a stand or mount it and watch it rotate to check for "straight". Look for a seller with lots of sales, good rep and easy return policy - ask plenty of questions and for more photos if needed. That's about all you can do. Also, since the wheel had an unknown history, I replaced the wheel bearings. No telling if it had seen 5,000 miles or 50,000, so all things considered it seemed like a good idea to replace them.

Will you be using the new tank or just the petcock?

If one of these were parked next to an A.T. in the showroom I wonder how much difference I would notice.

Picked up another bike recently

I know the FJ has a lot of grunt - more than our Viffers - just curious if a 5 speed takes any getting used to.
