yes sir. New concrete floor and foundation, new doors, windows, wiring, insulation, paint, wall sheathing, lighting, heat, door openers, the works.
and I did all the work myself save for the floor and the two overhead doors.
the only thing that’s original are the studs, stucco and shingles!
what kicked it off was the floor was absolutely shot and the garage had sunk about 4 inches. Water was running under the wall in spring.
From this side of the pond i'd say you have already passed the point of no return.....
Selling -as a whole or in parts- will never yield more than you already poured in. Let alone the hours...
2 grand for a 4th Gen that is cosmetically challenged? No way José...
The part you spent the most on is the LEAST valuable.....
In the unlikely event a current owner will need a spare engine, 250 is about the going rate..
After totalling my 4th gen in 2016, the "high" value items were:
-8 spoker rear wheel with single nut cover
-front rim (desired by 1st gen CBR900 owners)
-Akrapovic carbon high mount
-pristine bodywork (from the attic)
-Wilbers rear suspension
-MOSFET regulator
-re-jetted carbs+K&N airfilter
-re-upholstered seat
Last summer I recommissioned a 4th gen and installed things like
-New YSS rear shock
-White Power front springs
-pristine OEM muffler
-New HEL brake lines
-new front wheel bearings
-OEM Y2K mirrors
-New Dunlops
-ALL fluids changed, brake calipers serviced
-Pristine bodywork
"best" offer was Euro 1,400 (he was "doing me a favor" he stated). He never even wanted to come out and see the bike in real life...
I gave the bike to my brother and his daughter. They happy, me happy...
Wow! It feels like I haven't been on this thread in decades! Anyway, for those who have opted to buy a set of headers for your VFR, please check your PM folder as I just sent out a bunch of PMs for you to review and get back to us. If you did not receive a PM from me and did place an order, please send me a PM to let me know. I'm pretty sure I got to everyone but sometimes a few can slip through the cracks.
Cheers,
D
Yep as per all of the above.
As long as all other parameters eg, coolant and oil levels, and performance is all normal you should be fine.
Burning fuel, water is a byproduct and probably more so with hygroscopic Ethanol blended fuel, be aware of Phase Separation!
Your very cold atmospheric conditions probably don't help, as long as once your exhaust and engine is fully up to temperature it dissipates, all should be normal. Take it for a good long ride see how it behaves after that!
Not sure if we are talking about the same thing. Once modern ECU connector get unplugged there is tight forrest of tiny male pins that can hardy be cleaned. Female terminals are not visible or accessible. I would go there to diagnose malfunction as guided by shop manual troubleshooting guide and diagnostic codes, at least there was a problem in the first place, but routine maintenance?
Modern ECU usually cost more than 1k and harness 500 plus...
I just dealt with similar issue on SV1000. Turn out one of the vacuum hoses deteriorated
See here how to diagnose and fix it

I’m always casting around for a replacement of my 8G Viffer, but can’t find too much that can match it.
- Centre stand for tyre fixing,
- 21+ litres of fuel (up to 450kms on a tank)
- runs just as well on 91 Ron.
- perfect weight for long distance touring (light bikes get knocked around by B doubles)
- fast enough for this old fart (230kph +)
- fantastic exhaust note (Arrow Slipon)
- integrated pannier mounts,
- ABS for the tough times,
- and comfortable enough for 800km days.
Nice story, but we all know the VFR peaked with the 4th gen/RC36-2/1994-1997...
Peach perfect carburation, proper NACA ducts and NO dumbo ears..
Owned one from 1997-2016 until a car turned of in front of me.
Got another one last year..
Finally got enough miles on the 18SP CBR for first service, while up at the shop had the ECU flashed as well, oh my this bike is so light fast n smooth it's ridiculous, fits me perfect @ 5'8" 140 lbs. Nice dry PNW morning today, I was able to get her out for a rip, TGIFF!
