6Th Gen Stainless Catless Headers

I have just fitted a set of catless headers to my 02 6th gen from a company called Black Widow Exhausts in the UK. They were £195 inc postage (UK) and gasket set. The good thing about them is they are welded like the originals, not held together by springs like some other after market pipes. I am planning on having my PC3 custom mapped but I haven't decided if I am going to fit a set of their cans as well. The cans are not available yet but they have assured me they should be released in the next couple of months.

Here are a couple of pics of them fitted.

nice how do you like them, I have been reading about those exact headers. if you like them and say the fitment is good I will be hitting the button tonight. ordering 2 sets 1 for my 02 and 1 for my buddys 04. it comes out to be about $260 each shipped. cant beat that if they are good setup. so far customer service is good too.

thanks

dakota

You might be getting what you pay for. Sandy Bike Spares are also cheap (and come in LH exit), but if you actually look in the pipes, it is awful.

I think Black Widow is Sandy Bike Spares renamed. They were renowned for poor welds and restricted merge points. What are the diameters ?

Black Widow is at the same address as Sandy Bike Spares. I have had no previous dealings with either company despite them being about an hour up the road. The fitment was pretty good. I lined up no 4 and 1 and 3 all went together nicely then I had to pull no 2 into line a little but no big deal really. The original end cans then lined up pretty good as well. The welds all look ok but I didn't really look inside them in detail but again I saw nothing that I was concerned about. I have only run the bike up but not ridden it as it currently has no body work on it but it runs nicely, no leaks and I have re set the starter valves with my Twinmax and it is purring at 1200 rpm with a little more 'throb and puff' than before. I am at work at the moment but when I get a chance I will measure the o/d of the pipes and post them on here.

PS forgot to say, I have phoned them a couple of times and found them to be very helpful.

I'm 90% someone here has pictures of looking in the headers and finding all the joints were only half open from poor manufacturing. Then they tore them apart, ground them back to how it should have been, and welded them back together.

Only slightly off topic, I have dealt with Tyga on numerous occasions and have found their products and customer service to be top notch.

I wish they would hurry up and get set back up in the US. I want to buy from them, but shipping is nuts.

Hey guys I'm new here...

I just bought a 07' RWB model and am having it shipped from Colorado Springs to Chicago in a week or two...

I'm interested in upgrading the oem exhaust and possibly adding a power commander to achieve the best possible performance from the bike...

I'm interested in any qualified recommendations you can share...

Thanks, Erock

Well first off, welcome!

Second - Have you ever ridden the bike or any VFR for that matter? If not, then you should wait until you get it and put a few miles on before you decide whether to empty your wallet into the performance enhancement money pit. If the performance is good enough for your daily use and you want a slip-on for improved appearance, sound, and/or slight weight loss; pick whichever wets your whistle and don't worry about powercommanders. The lump of catalyst in your exhaust system will be the main restriction, so what you put on the end is largely irrelevant in terms of fuelling or power gain.

Third - If you want performance then you are going to want to lighten the bike, full performance exhaust (aka, not delkevic, sandy bike spares, or motad -- these or a stock 98-01 system will dump the cat, however), intake, and corresponding fuelling mods. Even when all is said and done, you can only tip the sport-touring scale toward sport. If you were looking for RR type performance, then you will be kinda disappointed without some absolutely radical mods. I'm not saying the VFR is slow or that many of us can take advantage of its full potential, but an RSV4, it is not. You will probably also want to look into suspension work too.

From my bookmarks:

- This is currently the only game in town, but if you are lucky you may come across an old Two Brothers or Erion racing system.

Intake: http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/forum/index.php/topic/80640-yoshi-style-velocity-stacks/and http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/forum/index.php/topic/79032-big-airbox-mod/

Many things that apply to a 5th gen will translate well to a 6th gen, however some don't. The forum search works well, just make sure you set it to "Forums" and not "Pages" or whatever default setting you are on.

For 6th gen CandyRedRC46 probably has some good information, you might try searching for posts by him.

Hey MadScientist...

Thanks for all the great info...This is my first VFR...but I also have 900F, 1100F, CBX bikes and a Blackbird so I'm somewhat familiar that these bikes typically need or want some mods to wake them up....And yes, I will ride the bike for a bit to see if I want any more out of her...

Thanks!!!

Best possible performance from the bike? Hold out for the Tyga Header and skip the power commander and go Rapid Bike Racing.

Go ahead and read through the Rapid Bike thread to get up to speed on the advantages over power commander:
