Member Contributer Dutchy Posted September 30, 2020 Author Member Contributer Share Posted September 30, 2020 I will continue to do the maintenance on the VFR.... A bromfiets has <50cc; the Gilera has 150cc..... As for bicycle/moped lanes, the law changed a little while back to move bromfietsen onto the main road. The bicycle lane is now reserved for -you guessed it- bicycles and snorfiets on which no helmet is required. The latter a restricted bromfietsen which by law must not exceed 25KMH top speed. They do ofcourse in practise, but that is another matter. The exhaust on the Gilera was gutted by a PO so I fabricated a DB-killer. But it is not as effective as I'd liked. So more thinking and tinkereing is required...
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted September 30, 2020 Author Member Contributer Share Posted September 30, 2020 Hunting for an oil drip on the VF500F2, I inspected the drain plug first. But no. I could buttun it up a tad firmer but that was not it. So I suspect the clutch rod seal. But no. Dry as a bone. Then I noticed that 1 bolt from the clutch/front sprocket cover plate was covered in oil. This hole The crannk case is one piece and I assume that bolt does not go insite the carter so I'm at a loss here as to why this bolt is covered in oild.. Why didn't you just turn the thing upside down and patch the tube like a proper Dutchman? I think I have an extra one of these laying around. It's yours. Took a day off work (I am entilted to 42 days paid leave..) to finalise helping our son move into a student studio. Got back home just in time for a wee spin. Yeah, the couds were darkening, but hey! got to ride new 2,5" wide Slovenian-made tyres. Yeah Donald is not the only guy riding Slovenian... Then the wetness came all over me..... but since I'm not made out of sugar I pushed on! Sun AND rain in my face at the same time.... Member Contributer Dutchy Posted November 8, 2020 Author Member Contributer Share Posted November 8, 2020 Another fine riding day.... Arty farty... My brother took the VFR out With the Gilera's generator being refurbished, I run a "total loss" ignition. Yesterday rode ~120km, continued today. But eventually she stalled. Swapped batteries. So now I know I can ride some 100miles on a 5aH battery Yeah, she needs a charge...

Member Contributer Dutchy Posted November 17, 2020 Author Member Contributer Share Posted November 17, 2020 Well, one did for sure... c;lose to the sparkplug hole so (my reasoning, not based on knowledge) is that it got way to hot there... Good thing I still have the VF500F2, 4th gen and RC51 to ride for now
