4Th Gen Replace Rear Brake Rotor Help

Has anyone succesfully replace the rotor without removng the rear axle?

I've loosened the rotor bolts but the seems no way it will slide/wiggle over the hub.

The wheel bolts appear to be permanently fixed to the hub. Are they? Must they come out?

Or is there indeed no way Jose and must I attempt (have the 46mm socket) to take out the axle?

Axle nut came off np, as did the axle moving out. Case solved.

Ok that one closed, next one opened....

the rear caliper pin that holds the brake pads in place (under this little dust seal). Well euh I stripped the bolt; the inner part that holds an allen key.

So I will have to button everything else up and go to the dealer as I donot own (nor risk owning :-) ) a drill bit that would allwo me to drill it out...

Never a dull moment...

I've done this twice on my 4th Gen. Once to replace a scored rotor at 85k miles, and once 5k miles later to replace the bearings. Don't know what mileage you have on yours, but if you have the axle out I'd surely check the bearings.

BTW, noticed a nifty chain guard in the photo, where'd you pick that up?

Bought that chainguard off another VFR rider who didnot like the crud on his rear shock.

Me neither and I had messed up my carbon fibre hugger so I mated the two...

In the end, it was a breeze.

Losen the 46mm nut,

Euro 70

Bought pads from them as well (have EBC rotors+HH upfront)

Applied some cosmetics to hide a few of her blemishes...

(hmmm leaving the bike over the winter left some pad marks (rust color) on the rotor...)

The oem stator measured and looked good...

IMAG2855.jpg

Noticed that oem has 2 rubber grommets, the ricks has only one.

Here the oem. The larger grommet on the left is the one that ricks does not have. Ricks only has one like the one on the right.

Took a management decision :-) to place the grommet where the "missing" one would go, in the top slot.

Please tell me if i was right or wrong....

All good now, put new seals in the rear calliper. The thinner ones were ripped...
Everything a good clean and ceramic paste on the back of the pads.

Speaking of pads, someone brought his 800 Intruder in for a service. He bought it used 2 months ago. He said the front single disc was not so good...
Mmhhhh.....

IMAG2898.jpg

Also, his horn was not working.
So we looked for it, could not see it, followed the wiring... Ok, there is NONE fitted...
;-)

Made sure my stator to rr plug will always have a good firm connection...

IMAG2897.jpg

Went for a good 2 hours ride, all is well in Dutchyland :-)
