Slammer Goes A Looking' For Bigfoot

Somebody said they saw Bigfoot here according to Google Earth so I marked it on my map and went and looked for myself. I like to look at maps, I can spend hours pouring over a topo map. Then I downloaded Google Earth - wow this is a map lovers wet dream. I was logged onto Google Eath last week clicking along a few roads I know. They got this nice feature where you can click an icon and see a photo somebody uploaded of the place. I was clicking along this dirt road I love, called Phantom Can

Utah And The 4 Corners

Motorcycles in Monument Valley w/ Two New Videos As many of you may know my one epic trip this season was to be a two week trip to California to go see the MotoGP at Laguna Seca. Tt was originally supposed to be a trio of us, Me, Dan, and Craig. Well NO, we were all set to go, bikes packed, ready to flip the starter and then Craig's bike wont budge - bad stator. A years worth of planning down the drain. So we did this make up ride to Utah instead - to go and see Zion National Park, and vis

Gingerman Track Weekend, August 18-19

I recently I took the VFR to the racetrack for two days. For those who don't know, here's the basic scoop on how this works. The group that organizes these events is called Sportbike Track Time. STT divides the riders up into three groups, Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced. Each group gets to be on the track for twenty minutes each hour. The Novice group is for beginners and those who seek continued instruction; in addition to 20 minutes on the track each hour, Novice riders are required to at

The Loveland Pass Loop

Loveland Pass It has been a while since I have actually day tripped on the VFR, most my day trips have been on the XR and the VFR has been doing interstate duties this season. Not last Tuesday, I just had to get out and see for myself if the autumn leaves are changing color yet? For the most part yes! Unfortunatly they seem to be falling right off the trees as soon as they do. Most of the path I took was Evergreens. View Google Route Map I took some twisty mountain roads around the Everg

Yet Another Wasted Weekend...from The Pillions Point Of View

This week it was my turn to disappoint. The Lady in Red had new shoes, and Meg and I should have been enjoying the time spent in close proximity listening to the rumble of the V4, the occasional engaging of the Vtec, and some peaceful eating. No such luck I am afraid...this week was about more time spent in the garage. It wasn't my bike under the knife this time, it was amcnally336's bike. His 1999 was in as a developement subject for the early 5th gen harness. We started at about 1:00, but

A Weekend Missed, Pillion Getting Rusty

After 2 weeks in a row of surprised riding, we had to take a weekend off. Unfortunantly, I am to blame. My poor VFR wore out her shoes, to the point I wasn't comfortable having my wife ride. This isn't even all....this weekend we will be driving the Family to Tulsa for the Tulsa-BYU game (go Cougars!)...so we will miss 2 weekends. Meg is not impressed that it costs $350 for 2 new tires out the door...I guess selling her on the motorcycle as a money saver isn't working so well. At this poin

Episode 2, Quelling The Inner Squid

For those who read my last entry, this is a continuation of my revival of Motorcycle riding with a Pillion. After a long absence, initiated by a gymnastic get off and a lot of pain, my Wife has again begun to ride with me. Episode 2 was a bit of a set-back, but not too bad. The day started out by meeting at the sitters, and heading out from there. The plan....Dinner and a Movie (but in the reverse order). We planned to hit the discount Cinema about 20 miles away, and grab something in the v

The Gila Monster NEW VIDEO Let me explain, this whole trip had one mission, one thing in mind, one specific road to ride, one reason to go "The Gila Monster". It was two days ride to get there, two days back. Why would anybody want to slab a day to go ride a road in the remote Gila National Forest in New Mexico? Well cause its a great fricken road thats why! Helo... heh I think so much about it I gave it a name "The Gila Monster" so lets cut to the chase ... see for yourself. http://www.

New York Weirdos

It does not take one too much time to realize that New York is one of the most tolerant cities in the world. Or simplier said, the Newyorkers just don't care. They don't care if one wears the latest designer clothes or the dirtiest rags. Would you like to put a pink feathers in your hair, paint your face black and white and drag chains behind you? Please do, but do not expect that anyone will turn their head after you. No one will care. Only tourists with maps will take pictures. Pink feathers,

Episode 1, A New Hope

Ok, a little history. 11 years ago I met my wife-to-be. It was a nonchalant meeting, she happened to be at my apartment with my roommate's GF and another girl. I was just dropping in to change clothes to go to a party. The party didn't have much appeal, and they were watching "Tommy-Boy", which I hadn't seen, so I hung out. After the movie, my roommate was taking his GF out on his Honda Shadow for a ride. My other roommate mentioned that I also had a motorcycle (1981 Yamaha Virago 750), and su

Personal Motorcycling History

Well I just had the best ride of my motorcycling career this past weekend. I drove to New Hampshire International Speedway to watch a friend race in the super sport amateur class. I left on Saturday morning and the temperature was perfect, sunny skies and no problems with the bike. I went solo and keep it under 100. While on the ride I began to recall all the bikes I have had and some of their stories so I thought I would write them down. 1st bike was a 1972 Honda SL125, I guess you would c

A Couple Of Miscellaneous Mods

I put a couple of new mods on my bike last week. Just finally got around to taking some pictures of them tonight. The first new mod is my Küryakyn Voltmeter. I mounted it underneath the speedometer display. It displays red, yellow, and green LED based on the health of your charging system. Obviously, green means everything is good. And here's my new "Back Off" Brand LED license plate frame. I've got it wired up so it works as a running light and brake light. The yellow LEDs on the end

4100 Miles You Hear That Vfr Blow'in 4100 Miles

I don't know where to begin, it was such an epic in the making. A full year of planning, routes to be scrutinized, people to contact, motels to reserve. I still am not sure what to make of it, bittersweet as it was I will start from the beginning. THE BEGINNING There where originally three of us planning to do this, here we all are in the picture below ready to go - HispanicSlammer (myself), Motoman (Dan gixxer), and Colosprvfr (Craig) we stopped to get a before pic and after we then climbed

07' Bmw Rally Trip!

Ok... now that I have been back from my trip for about 2 weeks and getting caught up on things, I figured I would write this little ditty on my trip to the 07' BMW International Motorcycle Rally in West Bend, WI. My father-in-law (on a K1200GT), a friend from New York (on a K1100RS), and myself on the VIFFER are all who made the journey. We left Holland, MI on July 11th, went to Muskeegon, MI and caught the high speed ferry http://www.lake-express.com/ to Milwaukee, WI. We made it to the rally l

Lunch And Transmission Fluids

My typical lunch consists of soup, bagel and a can of sugar-free Red Bull which I buy in the cafeteria located in our building. My mother always taught me not to talk and not to read while eating. However, she was quite unsuccessful, especially with the latter and I have developed a habit of browsing news, vfrd posts and personal emails while eating lunch at work. Turkey soup should not be life threatening, so I do not need to devote it full attention. However, an unfamiliar crunch between my t

Pushy Pushy

So I needed spark plugs for my two bikes, I don't know how long its been since I replaced the plugs on my vfr? 35K? So I decided it's time, off I went to the dealership. Once in the parking lot I notice the place is packed, its Tuesday 2:30 in afternoon and the place is packed! Don't these folks have jobs? I know its close to downtown Colorado Springs so I guess its rather easy to get to. Me I am driving the lot looking for a spot to park and boom one opens up. I was wishing I had the VF

Santa Fe Via Dirt Roads

Gardner Road 52 mile dirt road 10,500 feet up here at the top 3,500 feet down to the bottom of the road My Mission I wanted to ride all the way to Santa Fe from Colorado Springs on as many dirt roads as I could find. How did I make out? Not too bad actually, as far as solo adventure touring goes. I started out on the first dirt road south to Pueblo its called Meridian road here and when it gets to Pueblo it changes to Overton Road, same damn road two names. Its a 30 mile jaunt strait down to P

A Frankenviffer Unveiled

Well, it's taken me awhile, but I finally got some pictures taken of my new front end. Gave the bike a wash for the first time since last August (I think) and removed the saddlebag mounts and grab handles to give it a clean look for the photos. I'll be putting the saddlebag and top-box mounts back on later for a trip I have planned next week. I'll be going to Montana with my parents for the national Goldwing rally. After getting the bike washed, a friend and I rode up to the Vi

Running The Jemez Valley

It had been a while since I had taken my hard working girlfriend (Jenni) for a ride on the VFR. Summer had rolled in and with it the overwhelming heat that makes you feel as if you had walked into a baking oven. I needed a place that was away from Albuquerque (but not too far as this was only a day trip) and had some water to play in and cool off with. What better place than the Jemez Valley located a mere 1.5 hours northwest of here? Contained within was a variety of natural marvels includi

Fathers Day Ride

Every Fathers day my friend Reddog (Bill) gets a kitchen pass from his wife to take off on a ride, and each year I usually go along. This year I completely forgot about it, until he mentioned it the night before in PM to me. I was at work so I did the mental checklist, bike works - check, oil changed - check, tires - uh oh! I had spanked pilot powers on and needed to change them first. I had a good set (made in Spain - read the home page is your pilot powers are made in France)!!! So I

Overcompensating?

I havent ridden the VFR in over a month, shes been having trouble starting. I finally got her fixed and it felt wierd to ride it again after riding the XR650r so much more. I felt like I was laying on top of it. It did not take long to get back to normal, at first I was having difficulty leaning it over so I intentionally sought out all the twisty roads I could find, and went a littler overboard. I did all the tight twisy roads I could find from here to Denver that actually pass through from

Reno-fernley Track Day

Reno-Fernley Track - June 2nd, 2007 Pictures Summary I recently completed a track day at Reno-Fernley Raceway on Saturday, June 2nd. I was down in Reno for the second annual Reno VFRD meet. We had members from all over the west coast at the meet (San Bernardino, San Francisco, Newport, and Portland). On Friday, we all went for a ride to hit the local twisties and then we had a BBQ. Saturday we split into two groups: some of us went to the track and others went
