Ok... now that I have been back from my trip for about 2 weeks and getting caught up on things, I figured I would write this little ditty on my trip to the 07' BMW International Motorcycle Rally in West Bend, WI. My father-in-law (on a K1200GT), a friend from New York (on a K1100RS), and myself on the VIFFER are all who made the journey. We left Holland, MI on July 11th, went to Muskeegon, MI and caught the high speed ferry http://www.lake-express.com/ to Milwaukee, WI. We made it to the rally late that evening with less that 100 miles on the odometer for the trip... I know pretty sad but there is a lot more to the trip on the later half. Now at the rally, we spent 4 days/nights and left on day 5 but in the mean time, my father-in-law got a full Remus (genesis) exhaust on his K1200GT (free installation)along with a nice scratch due to the owner of the Remus US distributor hitting the door on his parts van after the exhaust was installed :pissed: but, he said to go get it painted and he would take care of the bill. I got a new set of Metzeler Z6's and a set of PIAA 1100X driving lights.... nice. The rally site was nice and very well organized with obout 8k people registered and somewhere between 60-80 vendors. There were a lot of seminars on the different BMW models and how to's for riding technique and such. Plenty of entertainment and definately a beer garden with some local micro brews  . I could talk a lot more about the rally buet here is a link if you want to check it out: http://www.bmwmoa.org/ Just navigate around the page and you will find some cool pics and stuff about the rally. Anyway, we left the rally site on Sunday morning and made our way through NE WI and landed in Marquette for the night where we stayed at a friends house and got up the next morning and was back on the road about 9:30 am to head for Holland. From Marquette we made it to the Mackinac Bridge around 3.5 hours and to Holland 8 hours after that. We road the coast of Lake MI as much as we could and I tell ya, some nice scenery and we couldn't beat the weather. Mid 70s the entire day!! The GPS showed a total of 12 hours time and 8.5 of it was riding. The odometer showed 813 miles from West Bend up and around the Upper Penninsula and back to Holland. We couldn't have asked for better weather the entire trip and to be free and just ride with no worries of where you have to be or what you have to do was definately nice. A trip well worth it!!
