  1. Rob, keep the mag clutch cover. Consider the scuffing as patina - think what the does to the value of a Louis IV chair
  2. Good on you for figuring a way to tidy the license plate lamp/mount. On my Gen5 & VTR1000F I just removed and put 'em on a shelf. Did you bolt the plate directly to the mudguard? If so, a sheet of rubber (truck tire inner tube, for eg.) as a backing dampens vibration and should prevent the plate from cracking.

Arno, there are no twisty road or knee dragging in your photo, but it sure makes me impatient to start my summer road trip.
  4. Congratulations on finding such a tidy VTR, Rob. It looks fantastic as is, but I can see it has an awesome future in store. SP1 or SP2? I've read good arguments in favour of each. A Brit mag recently called them under appreciated classics that will only rise in value. Terrific choice of wheels, btw. This Sport Rider article might give a few more ideas, though you've no doubt done massive research already: http://www.sportrider.com/honda-rc51-rvt1000r-great-sportbikes-past
  5. What great action image - it's my favourite featured image in quite awhile.
  6. That looks even colder than on my trip through Kootenay NP back in 2014. It was September 1st and the temp was barely above freezing. Love the Leo Vince cans - I've got a set on my '09.

Good catch, BAR. I really liked the look of my old Bell helmet, but it was not in the same league as the Shoei X8 Rainey that I bought that year at Laguna Seca.

I plan on returning there in about 3 months

I spied this interesting rock formation along Cal-247 just north of Joshua Tree, California in 1994.

RC, mirrors on the 2000 & 2001 VFR800 (pre-VTec) will fit 1990-1997 VFR750s, as well as the 1998 & 1999 VFR800. I installed a set on my '99 VFR800 and later to my '92 VFR750. Double check to be sure, but I believe there are the part numbers for each mirror including fasteners and gasket. 88110-MBG-D01 right side 88120-MBG-D01 left side

Fab shot of your VFR at dusk. I'm guessing that your VFR is the last year of the 3rd gen. Its graphics and wheel & seat colour were never available in North America.

This totem is the Salish Bear pole at the summit of the Malahat highway near Victoria BC. It was carved in celebration of the 1966 centennary of the merger of colonies of Vancouver Island and British Columbia. The elevation is a modest 356 metres, or 1157 feet, above Saanich Inlet which can just be spied in the background.

  14. Thanks for the reminder - I might have to fit in the Callahan-Weaverville stretch on Hwy 3 into this years trip to Laguna Seca.

    Bye bye

Brian - do you spend your whole life on Monitor Pass!? Lovely shot, I hope to ride it on my return to Laguna Seca this July.

View from the Malahat viewpoint just north of Victoria, BC, in the summer of 1998. Sadly, the totem pole has lost its ouster of late.

That is a lovely photo as well. Looks like a chilly day for a ride, though.

As Terry says, it was standard on the 1990-1993 VFR750F. Btw, the NR750 had a natty 2-piece articulated cover on its side stand.

Boy, what a lovely spot to ride. I have long thought of travelling to New Zealand, and your photo provides yet more incentive. Btw, despite being halfway 'round the world, your scene really reminds me of the PCH north of Big Sur, California:

    Rear View

Aha, a different angle atop Monitor Pass almost had me fooled. But I am curious about the bungee cord on the saddlebag. Are the latches unreliable, or are they for extra gear on the seat?

    VTR1000F

Honda's VTR1000F is my 2nd favourite bike. I've switched back and forth between VFR 750/800 and VTR1000F several times since 1993. Always felt that a VFR with the engine of a VTR would make a great sport tourer. It sure worked for Ducati. Still miss my '05 VTR:

    The Road

Whilst on the topic of Monitor Pass I'd suggest stopping for a beverage & rest in Markleeville, either before or after your transit. Sure, you could stay at South Lake Tahoe, but I prefer the Bridgeport Inn (which has a great restaurant, btw) a ways south on US 395. And for those who haven't seen it I offer this video showing the summit and eastward descent from my 2003 & 2014 rides. Though my pace was very similar it required a little tweaking to keep them synchronized. Hope you like it. Riding Monitor Pass

    The Road

What a lovely view of Monitor Pass, one of my favourites in the Sierra Nevadas. It's about 20 miles from the jct with Cal-4 and US-395, about the same as Cal-1, the Pacific Coast Hwy, from the coast to Leggett. Of course, Monitor Pass's open sweepers are in total contrast with the nasty tight curves on that stretch of PCH.
