So I might have done a thing......

Rob, keep the mag clutch cover. Consider the scuffing as patina - think what the does to the value of a Louis IV chair -

Good on you for figuring a way to tidy the license plate lamp/mount. On my Gen5 & VTR1000F I just removed and put 'em on a shelf. Did you bolt the plate directly to the mudguard? If so, a sheet of rubber (truck tire inner tube, for eg.) as a backing dampens vibration and should prevent the plate from cracking. -

Congratulations on finding such a tidy VTR, Rob. It looks fantastic as is, but I can see it has an awesome future in store. SP1 or SP2? I've read good arguments in favour of each. A Brit mag recently called them under appreciated classics that will only rise in value. Terrific choice of wheels, btw. This Sport Rider article might give a few more ideas, though you've no doubt done massive research already: http://www.sportrider.com/honda-rc51-rvt1000r-great-sportbikes-past -

RC, mirrors on the 2000 & 2001 VFR800 (pre-VTec) will fit 1990-1997 VFR750s, as well as the 1998 & 1999 VFR800. I installed a set on my '99 VFR800 and later to my '92 VFR750. Double check to be sure, but I believe there are the part numbers for each mirror including fasteners and gasket. 88110-MBG-D01 right side 88120-MBG-D01 left side

From the album: my VFRs
This totem is the Salish Bear pole at the summit of the Malahat highway near Victoria BC. It was carved in celebration of the 1966 centennary of the merger of colonies of Vancouver Island and British Columbia. The elevation is a modest 356 metres, or 1157 feet, above Saanich Inlet which can just be spied in the background.© Lorne Black

Whilst on the topic of Monitor Pass I'd suggest stopping for a beverage & rest in Markleeville, either before or after your transit. Sure, you could stay at South Lake Tahoe, but I prefer the Bridgeport Inn (which has a great restaurant, btw) a ways south on US 395. And for those who haven't seen it I offer this video showing the summit and eastward descent from my 2003 & 2014 rides. Though my pace was very similar it required a little tweaking to keep them synchronized. Hope you like it. Riding Monitor Pass

What a lovely view of Monitor Pass, one of my favourites in the Sierra Nevadas. It's about 20 miles from the jct with Cal-4 and US-395, about the same as Cal-1, the Pacific Coast Hwy, from the coast to Leggett. Of course, Monitor Pass's open sweepers are in total contrast with the nasty tight curves on that stretch of PCH.
