Volfy
^This. This Saturday, I will be picking up my 12th bike in 4yrs since I got back to riding. Don't regret buying any of them, including those that turned out to be, uh..., extended test rides. It's hard to buy a piece of turd these days. They were all good machines. Some just fit my riding style better than others. Also, needs and preferences change over time. So, who knows... Enjoy riding what you got, when you still got it. Only regret I have is not riding some of mine more than I did. Each showed me nuances that made me appreciate different qualities in a bike - good, bad, or indifferent. Let's me focus on qualities I like on the next purchase. So far, the VFR1200F is the only keeper. That's just me. Everybody's different.
Member Contributer alleyoop Posted June 11, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted June 11, 2015 Let's just face it, Honda came up with a VFlopR with the 1200..... For that statement to be valid, we'd need a lot of questions answered and a lot of evidence presented. And that information is available only to a select few at Honda HQ. Based on Honda's purpose, goals, expectations, philosophy, profits, and worldview, the bike could just as easily have met their own established goals and be a grand achievement for Honda. Someone reporting "tons" for sale means very little. Honda is a very big (Japanese) company. We can't assume the same purpose and expectations based on our cultural frame of reference. They might for example have produced the bike just to show off their technical prowess with little expectation of sales or profit. We might think they are crazy to do that. But guess what, they don't care! I'm glad that the Japanese march to the beat of their own drum. The stated goal of the Harley Davidson CEO is not manufacturing state-of-the-art motorcycles but "customer acquisition." Harley's sales figures--and profit margin--are higher in the U.S. than Honda. But I don't buy a bike based on marketing or sales figures or popularity. I bought the VFR12 because it's a technological and design tour de force on two wheels that meets my riding requirements. iamzombie
My biggest difficulty lies in deciding whether I want to spend the money to make the VFR better, or sell it and put it into my R1 (or maybe a different bike) to make IT better. No offence Zombie, but you have been dissatisfied with the 1200 for quite a while. It's ok not to love the bike and sell it. There are too many options out there and life is too short to ride with a bike that doesn't give you smiles. The 1200 IS a wonderful bike, but it may not be right for you. Nothing wrong with that. I could understand toying with the idea of dumping money in it if you were saying, "This bike is awesome! Well, except for this or that." The bike is uninspiring for you. Fix up that R1 and get your grin back! No offense taken, but I can't make someone buy it... I took my R1 off of the road (insurance is too expensive here to insure two bikes at once) and have been riding the VFR exclusively the past few months, it's beginning to grow on me. Like I said, if it sells, great. That will make my decision for me, if by the end of the season it hasn't sold, I may have to try selling the R1 instead next season, wife isn't happy that I have two bikes atm :P

aks801
I am contemplating returning to the riding world, and really enjoying getting caught up on the debates. The 7th Gen has completely and totally worked in my eyes from Day 1. I LOVE the looks. I LOVE the technology. And having checked them out very closely at dealerships, I LOVE how it fits me perfectly. So I definitely look forward to picking one up at a discounted price to make room for something else on the showroom floor!

Volfy
For those asking about gas mileage, here are almost all of my fuel ups for the last couple of years : Up there in the thin air of God's Country, you are gonna get better mpg than, say, off the Gulf Coast. No way we could possibly get anywhere close to 50mpg at sea level. The flip side is... we actually get the full rated HP.
ridered
I'm getting close to getting a new bike, and now there is not one manual in all of SoCal for sale. There are 2 on CL as of now, one is sold and the other the owner is keeping. So, it seems the bike is desirable now that I want one (maybe). I can't find one to test ride to decide if it is for me.
