Lint
Thanks guys. Yeah, wished I could have met both of you. I am struggling today. Rain most of the day and I've only made 250 miles in 7.5 hours. I'm wiped. Paging Mr. Caffeine, Mr. Gallons of caffeine..

Lint
What a day. I left Clarksville, Ar at 9:30 a.m. and I only made it to Elk City, Ok. Only 350 miles in TEN HOURS! Now, I did take some breaks, mostly because of the rain, but Damn! I thought I would do better than that! But, I am alive, my rubber stayed down and my shiny stayed up. I'm in a Motel 6 for the night and I am very grateful! I did have one OMG moment. I pulled over to the side of the highway to put my phone in my tank bag instead of my pocket as it just started raining and all of a sudden I hear tires on the rumble strip right next to me. I literally came.within three feet of getting hit by a pickup truck going 70 miles an hour. That shook me up something fierce! Had I been hit, at that speed I never would have even known. So. being in a Motel room right now is a great thing! The moral of this story? Use a parking lot if at all possible!!!!!!! Or get as far over as humanly possible! I am super grateful to be able to post about this. I called my kids just to say I love them and Texted my wife at work. I haven't told her yet, as I don't want her to worry. Lint
Well, it is good to be home! Yesterday was a funny yet sorta frustrating day. I left Kingman Az, no incidents and made it into Barstow. Stopped at an In-N-Out Burgers that was PACKED!!! But, it was some cheap eats. Took off with the plan of riding down to Victorville, then Ca-18 West and instead got off at Ca-18 East, but I went west. This put me on Route 66 in Victorville. I rode down that thinking I was on the right road, until I started thinking I must not be going the right way. My Google Navigation told me to get off of Route 66 at Hinkley Rd. which I did. Did you know that a Honda VFR is stable in mid air? I do. There is a railroad crossing with a sign before it that says bump. WTF???? That shit lauched my entire bike a good two feet in the air. Bump my ass!!! Did you know that at the intersection of Hinkley Road and Ca-58 there are two signs alluding to the area being radioactive? I do. Did you ever see Erin Brokovich? Yep, it is about Hinkley. So, out of frustration and getting lost, I found something interesting. Luckily, I didn't drink the water, so I am not glowing. Here is more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinkley,_California I ended up doing a big HOT 70 mile loop back to Barstow, at the exact exit In-N-Out was at on the 15!!! So, here is the route I ended up taking; It actually got to the point that I called my wife while on Hinkley road and gave my wife my GPS lat/long coordinates just to figure out where I was. With her help, we both determined I was indeed in the middle of nowhere! So, stopped at a Pilot Travel Center and got a bunch of stuff to drink. Now, rested, cooled and rehydrated, off I go, right? Nope! I can't find my key to my bike. Looked in my jacket, all around the travel center and was just about to call my wife and have her drive 2.5 hours to bring me my extra key when I decided to see if my key fell into my pants. So, found out where the trucker showers are and stripped down. Yep, my key fell to the floor. Crisis averted. Called the missus and told her I was going to be late and why. She was laughing so hard! Yeah, I guess I would have been too. So, off I go into the wild blue yonder, or at least the hot dry abysmal area around Barstow. HOLY HIGH WINDS BATMAN!!!! Apparently, California decided to have a dry, cloudless hurricane! I was getting buffeted something fierce! I decided my choices were to continue to have a losing boxing match with the wind or ride on the left side of my tires. I chose the latter. WOW! I think at times I was leaning about 25 degrees. Seriously, it was crazy! But I was able to save wear on the center of my tires and besides, the sides have softer rubber, right? So, after getting on Ca-18 WEST this time, I rode on. Yeah, what prompts people to live in the middle of a hot windy waterless desert anyway? Seriously, even the bugs have moved on. Now, my old Pharos GPS that sorely needs an update wanted to take me along the Sierra Highway to get to home, and after following a little two lane road for a while, I became not so very interested in curves when there is a freeway right next to it. I got on the 14 and road home. Sierra Highway is for another day.
Lint
Since I got delayed in Albequeque, Nm waiting until the morning to get a new tire, I stayed at the Motel 6 off of San Mateo. I got a discounted room that had the TV stolen "by the locals" as I was told by the young lady behind the desk. But, it gave me a place to sleep and I just watched Netflix on my phone, while plugged into the charger port on my bike. Nashville sunset

Lint
I wished I would have stayed on the road. Yesterday morning I wheeled my bike out of the covered parking to wash it. I put the kickstand down and walked about 5 steps away and WHAM! I turned around to see RHonda laying on the ground. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!! Scratched the left side fairings, turned my clutch lever into a U shape and broke my left mirror at the base. I'm so bummed. Also, the upper support bar that holds the mirror and provides support for the windsheild got bent down some, so now I have to remove the upper cowling and bend it back up to be even with the other side.I still have a lot to be grateful for as I did just complete this long trip with no issues at all, but it's a sickening feeling to see your bike laying on it's side. Ironic that you covered the distance that you did without incident only to have a tipover that way. Give me a shout when you have a chance, and let's see if there is something I can do to help you get her back to looking pretty again.

VFR4Lee
Oh man, all that way with no problems, then a driveway tipover. You were probably all relaxed after making the trip, then doh! Oh well, shtuff happens. I've done it too. Better at home than on the road.
Lint
Yeah, if it would have happened on the road, it would have been a lot lot worse, so again something to be grateful for. I polished it or today and cleaned off 5000 miles of gunk. The scratches aren't as bad as they looked yesterday. I'm trying to reach the guy that painted it so I can get done paint to fix it. New levers in soon and then it's a mirror.
Lint
OK, I FINALLY found a cable that works for my camera and thus, finally, PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Breakfast in Carlsbad with my mom, just before heading out to Flagstaff Az! 515 Miles! Day One! It's getting warm Neat building, I wonder what it was. This is somewhere in the Mojave. What road am I on??? It's heating up! Rest Stop for emergency water. There isn't much here at all. More pix! ARIZONA! Don'tcha love the gravel I got to pitch my tent on?? This is the Meteor Crater parking lot. Call me cheap, but I don't want to spend a couple of hours here and $18 just so I could get a few pics. Another place where there isn't much!
