Member Contributer Dutchy Posted February 15, 2014 Author Member Contributer Share Posted February 15, 2014 Well, with Bert's help we established that the relay and pump didnot appear to be the problem. That there had to be a wire somewhere chafed/shorting. But as we started to follow the wires, Bert noticed that the tip of my middle finger was at an odd angle... Now I recall earlier bending it but did not look..... no pain. So the "follow the wire" became a trip to the hospital where they told me the tendon had ripped... So for the next 6 (yes six) weeks......... Back home, knowing what to look for I checked the wiring, rerouting a few that were ok but were chafing/added a bit of tape. At the front right, the main harness has a branch that leads to a coil where it sits on TOP of the loom. On my bike, squeezed under the loom was another "branch" and I could it see chafed the top part of the frame. Impossible to see between cable and frame, but I put a bit of cardboard between cable and frame. No more 10A fuse popping! Not wanting to take everything apart, I wrapped the cable with insulation tape and put duct tape on the offending frame section. Hooked up the fuel pump and everything ran fine. Darkness feel so more tomorrow.

Member Contributer Switchblade Posted February 15, 2014 Member Contributer Share Posted February 15, 2014 here is the problem. the red and yellow wire is Y shaped. 1 goes the coil. other to the voodoo box.. the other to the pump relay. unplug all 3 an place the red prob on one end and black one on the the other 2. +1 Fuel pump signal ... Kinda thought it would be, now how did you sever the tendon in your finger ?
VFRBert
Dutchy put his hands in his pockets while i was working No kidding, i think it has something to do with his age. Or bad luck or whatever. He did not cut himself. The tendon severed spontaniously. Or he did it on purpose, to get an excuse to show everybody his middelfinger. Anyway, The red slut is roaring again, so that problem is solved. Now i have the heavy task of tasting 4 different brands of Whisky and telling Dutchy wich one i like. :wub2:

Member Contributer Dutchy Posted February 16, 2014 Author Member Contributer Share Posted February 16, 2014 Kinda thought it would be, now how did you sever the tendon in your finger ? Thinking back, I loaded up the car an hour earlier for my wife and son to go on a week vacation. There's a cargonet in the back to hold down things like the windscreenwasherliquidjerrycan (major Scrabble score). Unhooking it, I let the elastic slip so the hook tapped my finger. That was painfull but it subsided. Later as I dug out a fuse from my pocket I also felt it snap a bit.... Anyway, morning has broken so time for breakfast. Member Contributer Dutchy Posted February 16, 2014 Author Member Contributer Share Posted February 16, 2014 Lights are stil working, as are the indicator bulbs... Horns still fine, dashboard lights etc. So what I will do next is remove the complete fairing (the main stay needs a spray job anyway) and start checking the wiring around the ignition lock/head stock, under the fuse box With the fuses blowing, how can I test that the altenator is spiking? I have a SDC volmeter wired in. So could (or better should) I put a 30A fuse in and watch the voltmeter? If it blinks green this would mean over charging. But would this cause the 10A or 20A fuse to blow in the ignition/fuel syst slot? She idled fine with the 10A fuse and I rode at maybe 20kmh through the neighbourhood, sharp left/right turns, rotating the steering. Only when I revved up did she fail. Subsequent 10A and 20A failed too (I was hoping to trundle home...) And yeah, silly me for not revving it through the gears while on the centre stand while still at home....... No I have not done any ground mod Some lunch first........
Member Contributer Switchblade Posted February 16, 2014 Member Contributer Share Posted February 16, 2014 I would suspect the R\R if its doing when you rev it up. Get it running and put your DVM across the battery and rev it up and see what your DC output is from the R\R ..
