  1. Yes! This! 😡
  2. That does seem a bit low, but you don't mention how long it had been running and if it had been over that temp earlier in the same ride. If it was the first miles of your ride that day, it could just have not gotten the chance to warm past that point? If you had seen 180s in stop and go, and then gotten into clean air running in 6th gear for an extended period, that might be too cool. I've found a 100 degree differential between ambient and water is generally the case in average temps. If you aren't having running issues, I would save it for a "big maintenance project." I just replaced my working thermostat because I was replacing all the hoses with silicone, and the water pump because it was leaking. Since I was in there I pulled the injectors and sent them out for cleaning, and replaced the fuel filter. The only time I replaced the t'stat on it's own was to solve an odd behavior. It would constantly cycle up and down between approximately 170 and 185 in steady speeds in clean air. I ignored it for a long time with no problems, but finally decided to change it to see if it cleared up. It did. This last change was purely for the sake of doing it while it was accessible, literally in my hands already.
  3. Your cooling system works. Select air temp on your display and call it a day.
  4. I had to go out to the garage and find a spare fan to actually physically flip it over...🙄
  5. The 30a stuck on the front of the battery box? I replaced mine with a breaker, cause it was looking pretty toasty! Fuse to Breaker You can also see the position of the ground block in my pic. I inspected it a couple years ago and retaped with clear electrical tape.
  6. So what does this mean? What year are these numbers? Why are the part#s for all 4 years the same on cam shafts? Likely does not mean anything for iThinkergoiMac since the majority of engines are 49 state, I'm just curious to close my own 5th Gen knowledge.
  7. I didn't think about checking CA bikes, but I just did and same numbers throughout. Anything CA would have to be external or in the ECU? Stator will be toasty no matter what. Put it in and run it. You can always rewind your original at your leisure.
  8. Fixed it for ya! 😉 But yeah, what he said! And nice job on the stand! PitRice? RiceBull?
  9. Was there a change? I just looked the parts fiche on Ron Ayers and they are the same #'s for all 4 years. The only weirdness is that the intakes for '98-'99 say (Source Vintage Parts Inc.) with the same price listed as '00-'01, and all 4 years Ex have no price listed.
  10. Looks cool, love the gold bolts and lug nuts, and the tank wings!
  11. There is no HISS in the US (North America?), so not an issue. The ECU is the big difference, not the physical lump of the engine. Instead of removing the cats and O2 sensors from the whole '00-'01 and then plugging the O2 bung and giving the ECU a signal it is looking for (As in people modding their later bikes to run without the sensors and cat/con), your '98 ECU simply doesn't need them or want to look for them. I think that makes sense. Did you understand it? The big thing would be the wax unit for the fast idle system. If the engine comes with the throttle body, and you really want it, you can probably splice it into the cooling system. OTOH, if your throttle body is fine and you want to keep the lever and cable, it should be ok.
  12. You are fine to do with the old one. I wouldn't bother with any sealant, IMO, YMMV, etc....
  13. Last time I changed a set I put in SKF. Dramatically less stiction! Wasn't my bike though. I think neither (OEM or SKF) will leak without external forces, i.e. grit or scoring on the slider. Bike I changed the seals in was a 6th Gen that had a few miles of dirt/gravel to and from the house. Lots of opportunity for stuff to foul the seals!
  14. I hadn't realized that was mid 2000. Interesting! Was your 2000 US or UK?
  15. There is a solenoid that opens and closes to allow vacuum to move the flapper. Perhaps it's that? May be moot, because looking at your video I think the flapper operates only with clutch and throttle. Didn't look like you were moving the clutch cause you weren't moving any. Beyond that I don't know...
  16. Air Box Flapper?
  17. Plugs are vastly different. Not saying it's impossible if you decipher the wiring diagram to figure out where the wires all go and cut and splice them into the 6th Gen plugs. But Plug-n-Play definitely not.
  18. I suspected that was the case, but I’m going to stick with stock and ordered the OEM filter with the curved outlet.
  19. I'm not going to try to talk you into it because you need the confidence to ride it long distance, but it's pretty simple to raise it into place with a jack or lever of some sort and slide the bolt back in. No need for new bearings just because the swing arm was removed. But again, totally up to you. I'm actually planning a post later on to detail the myriad of (simple and stupid) mistakes I've made on my bike this month alone. It's been pretty bad, so I can empathize with you on not wanting to get in over your head.
  20. Hahaha, me too! Also, point well taken.
  21. Scrapped the whole thing and ordered a '00-'01 filter.😐
